“Last Month My Brother Died” by Yamana. Appreciate Luigi now while you can; tomorrow isn’t promised!

The site seems to be experience some technical difficulties at the moment, so my apologies if you have a bunch of links to nonexistent chiptune tracks and Dinosaur King deals. We hope to resolve this soon, but in the meantime, posting this weekend will be very light (if we’re able to get anything up at all). Sorry about that!

Mario and Luigi’s Game Boy accessories advertisement.

You can read the full two-page comic ad, taken from Club Nintendo Classic (I’ve never come across this magazine before!), on this page. Luigi looks so stylish with that fanny pack tilted to the side and strapped across his overalls.

There’s also an NES comic for the Zapper, NES Max, and NES Advantage, which had Mario venturing into space over 15 years before Super Mario Galaxy released.

You can purchase one of these cute toys, as well as patterns to make your own, from Michelle’s Etsy site.

Quilted, Luigi-adorned Nintendo DS case by Jeabby.

I love that someone is paying tribute to “Mario’s taller, floatier, vaguely bohemian counterpart.” He always seems underappreciated; hardly anyone noticed that 2008 was Luigi’s 25th anniversary.

God bless you, Luigi, you magnificent, high-jumping fool.

Happy Luigiversary! →

Speaking of anniversaries, 2008 marks 25 years since the release of Mario Bros., the first game in which Luigi appears. He was just a palette swap back then, but has evolved over the years into Mario’s taller, floatier, vaguely bohemian counterpart.

A Japanese fan has created a site in celebration of the occasion, with a list of games important to Luigi’s history (including, of course, Super Mario Bros. 2, or Lost Levels, which introduces Luigi’s jumping skill) and a collection of Luigi memorabilia. You can even put a little app on your site that pops up a random picture of a Luigi toy (search the page for きょうのルイージ ).

We’re rocking our own HAPPY! Luigi 25th banner. You should download one too in support of some guy who doesn’t really exist.
