There’s a Mario on the Year of Luigi 3DS XL
Year of Luigi Nintendo 3DS XL for Japan!
Come to U.S. plz.
Club Nintendo’s Luigi Sale
Like last year, Club Nintendo has discounted stuff in honor of Luigi, for the dual purpose of promoting Luigi’s Mansion and celebrating St. Patrick’s Day.
Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon 3DS XL skin
This is in issue 93 of Official Nintendo Magazine. If UK magazines are available in your area, pick it up and your 3DS XL could look reasonably ghostbusters.
Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon ad is Ghostbusters
So this kid’s pretending to be asleep, but is instead playing Luigi’s Mansion in bed… in his very own creepy, ghost-filled mansion. And then he turns into Luigi.
WHAT A TWIST!
That’s a lot of Luigis - Mario & Luigi: Dream Team
Nintendo teased that 2013 would be the year of Luigi before, and it’s delivering on that promise with Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon next month, a new Mario & Luigi RPG for 3DS (video here), and the New Super Luigi DLC pack for NSMBU. Mario will have his share of titles, too, with Mario and Donkey Kong and Mario Golf: World Tour.
The mishmash of Dream Team GIFs above come from Maxxie, Sootopolis, and Manolizer. In case it’s not clear in that last image, the game takes place in the mind of a sleeping Luigi — does that make this a sorta sequel to Super Mario Bros. 2?
This familiar guy popped up while I was playing Pocket Planes, a new airline sim for iOS by NimbleBit (Tiny Tower). Though Nintendo has said multiple times that it’s not bringing its flagship franchise to iPhone, that hasn’t stopped iOS developers from finding ways to drop the Mario brothers into their games.
Anyway, like many other iPhone owners, I spent the past weekend addicted to this free game. It’s one of those simple titles that you can play while watching TV, returning to it during AMC’s commercial breaks for O Brother, Where Art Thou?, as was the case for me. It’s the perfect experience for a mobile gaming distraction.
3DS is such a different platform, but I wonder if it could get away with something like this — a fun, free waster that you can play in the background while doing something else. While Nintendo is sort of encouraging that by now allowing microtransactions on its systems, we haven’t heard any free-to-play titles announced for eShop yet.
My Club Nintendo Luigi 3DS case. (Of course) it holds a 3DS just fine, with some room to spare. It does not hold a PS Vita. I could maybe squeeze the Vita in there well enough to barely close the zipper, but I don’t think it’s a good idea, and I’m not sure it would work.
Speaking of things barely fitting in this case, that little pocket holds a maximum of one game — and it takes some work to get that one game in there! Of course, there’s nothing stopping me from just tossing hella games into the case with the 3DS, so no big deal.
In conclusion, this was way more fun to get in the mail than my gas bill. If you want to sport a tiny optical illusion of a hat to carry your system around in, it’s available through Club Nintendo (North America) for 450 Coins.
NIntendo has turned its whole Club NIntendo site green today in honor of St. Patrick’s Day — a pretty impressive, if random, promotion. Even better: for the green-themed day, it’s now “selling” the Luigi hat 3DS case for 450 Coins.
This kind of cute surprise offer makes me think that someone, hidden within NOA, maybe… cares about Club Nintendo. And I think I care about replacing the tiny backpack I have for my 3DS.

“Last Month My Brother Died” by Yamana. Appreciate Luigi now while you can; tomorrow isn’t promised!
The site seems to be experience some technical difficulties at the moment, so my apologies if you have a bunch of links to nonexistent chiptune tracks and Dinosaur King deals. We hope to resolve this soon, but in the meantime, posting this weekend will be very light (if we’re able to get anything up at all). Sorry about that!
