Mega Man 9 cutouts by Megan Hughes. The artist created a set of these pieces for Mega Man and each of the game’s robot masters. She’s selling each of the cutouts on just archival paper through her Etsy shop for $40 each, and in shadow box frames for an extra $20.
Artist Persona, who let us know about the series, says the cutouts look phenomenal in person: “All the bosses have a nice texture to them, like Megaman with a velvety blue, and they’re made of thick paper stock so it’s pretty solid. Pretty cool to have hanging on the wall.”
Megan also takes commissions, so if you’d like her to create something similar for you, get in touch!

Mockup Mega Man 9 magazine ad, by NeoGAFfer “Beardz”. There’s a whole thread of fake ads for the game, and some of them are pretty good! A few actually nail the “print ad” feel, and there’s even one that accurately imitates vintage Capcom magazine advertising. It’s totally worth the browse.
I guess I like posting about things related to Mega Man 9 marketing today.

The music in this fanmade video of an imaginary Mega Man sequel doesn’t fit the series quite right, but I’m not really complaining, because it’s not like I did anything worth talking about today.
And besides, everything else sure does. I actually think the Tank Man boss would be a great fit as a Robot Master! I’d love to see Glue Man’s weapon.

The version being offered on Capcom’s online store is the Japanese release, with Japanese text in the liner notes and all. It also has the commensurate Japanese price of thirty damn dollars.

Image from Capcom USA’s public webcam. I’d love to own the Rockman 9 soundtrack CD, and this might be my chance, but we’ll have to see what kind of quantity Capcom plans to stock — whether it’s one of those OMG ORDER RIGHT NOW OH TOO LATE things like the press kit. I hope not, because I posted the wrong time for that and ruined readers’ chances of getting one. I would like to reduce the chances of that ever happening again.
Price is also an issue. This thing retails for 2,500 yen ($28), which might be a bit pricey for me.
Speaking of Mega Man 9 stuff I probably won’t be able to buy, the Japanese e-Capcom shop has two amazing new t-shirts:

“The Megaman 9 Bunch” by Ben Mangum. It’s both fanart and FAQ in one delightful image. So, I guess, if you’ve got some interest in knowing the Mega Man 9 boss order, stop looking!
I was going to display one of Ben’s other Mega Man boss order images (for Mega Man, 2, and 3) but I don’t think they look as nice as this one. It actually takes a few seconds to register what the hell’s going on, anyway.
You know, despite the pain she must be in, Splash Woman doesn’t seem all that defeated. Good for her!

Two opposing viewpoints color my appreciation of Mega Man 9. On one side, I like it as a new game that appropriates 8-bit graphics and level design for artistic reasons, and shows that neither pixels nor sidescrolling action-platformers are archaic.
On the other side, however, I cannot help but admit that it does create a pleasant nostalgic feeling. And it’s that part of me that makes these screenshot maps of Mega Man 9 levels so wonderful. It simultaneously evokes memories of magazine strategy guides and of discovering GameFAQs for the first time.

Please make more of this kind of fanart, instead of the other kind. Although I guess I can’t print either out and put it up on my wall, for different reasons.
