Still coming out sometime this year. Still has awesome sprites from Paul Robertson. Still much anticipated.
If you’re in Montreal, by the way, you can get a peek of the Metal Slug-esque PC shooter — and even play it — at IGDA’s DemoNight next Tuesday.

The Kickstarter for Mercenary Kings, the amazing-looking run-and-gun by Tribute Games, ended at $116,064, exceeding the $75,000 goal. As a successfully funded project, Tribute Games will now actually make the game, which is good news.
At the current funding level, Tribute plans to implement these features:
The team still plans to implement the stuff from the other milestones (like, I hope, a console version!) using revenue from sales of the released game.

A Metal Wolf hoodie designed by Scott Pilgrim creator Bryan Lee O’Malley! If you’ve not yet met Metal Wolf and its awesome animation yet, it’s a character from Tribute Games’ upcoming run’n gun Mercenary Kings. You can get one of these hoodies after making a substantial pledge to the PC game’s Kickstarter.
By the way, I interviewed Mercenary Kings’ animators, Paul Robertson and Jonathan “Persona” Kim, about how they make these killer looking sprites. Read it!

Mercenary Kings split-screen multiplayer footage. Go ahead and open the video up full-screen, because you’re not going to be able to see what’s going on at all otherwise!
With 13 days to go, Tribute Games is still about $4,000 away from its $75,000 goal. That’s so far away from the console version goal, you guys. A game with a name like Mercenary Kings should be loaded with money!

Mercenary Kings art and animation, by Stéphane Boutin and Paul Robertson, respectively. These rad images were posted on the Kickstarter page yesterday, as the funding drive crossed 50% of its goal!
And Tribute Games has several important “stretch goals” past the completion of the main goal, like making me a console version. You can make it happen, with money!

Tribute Games is raising money to create its rad-looking, Metal Slug-esque shooter Mercenary Kings for PC, with a Kickstarter drive that started today.
For your donation, you can get a copy of the game plus Wizorb, a digital art book, exclusive in-game items, a t-shirt, a hoodie designed by Bryan Lee O’Malley (Scott Pilgrim), or even the chance to appear in the game or design a weapon. Oh, and the game gets expanded with console versions, extra content, and online multiplayer.
If you want to contribute, you have until September 13. If you back it, and you have a chance to leave a comment or something, tell them Tiny sent you!

Mercenary Kings, the latest from Wizorb developer Tribute Games, featuring animations from Paul Robertson (if it’s not immediately evident from the puppy tank).
I suspect this will ship for XBLA or XBLIG, as well as PC, but it still deserves mention here because these are cool dudes, and we’re always down for whatever they’re working on. Plus, I would be totally into a sprite-based run’n gun with a weapon crafting system.
The project is still in its early prototype stage, and is expected to release some time in 2013.
