Tiny Cartridge 3DS

MGS 3D’s “Snake Camouflage” system and Big Boss pop up at Hooters Tokyo as part of a promotional event for the game (click for larger images of Big Boss creepin’).

It seems like an odd space to launch the game at first, but Konami has teamed up with the wings restaurant to feature Hooters-themed magazines in the Japanese version of the game. In the U.S. version, we get virtual copies of Nintendo Power instead.

Strangely not the first time we’ve linked a Japanese Hooters and Konami thing here!

Another shot of MGS 3D's “Snake Camouflage” 3DS, accompanied by Hori's green accessories for the game.
Acquiring the limited edition system will require a good deal of cash and luck, but the person who shot/posted this photo needed neither — one of the special perks of being Japanese actress, Kojima Productions spokesperson, and Metal Gear Solid voice talent Yumi Kikuchi.

Metal Gear Solid 3D bundle with the special embossed “Snake Camouflage” system and two clear folders.

As I feared, production for this is extremely limited — you’ll only be able to purchase one through the Japan-only Konami Style e-Shop, and you’ll need to have a winning ticket in a raffle before you can even put down your ¥22,980 yen (¥298) to buy it. :o/

U.S. box for Metal Gear Solid 3D: Snake Eater (click for a larger image), which releases here on February 21 — two weeks before the Japanese and European ship date.
This enhanced port of the PS2 game includes support for the Circle Pad Pro, which debuts in North America on February 7 alongside Resident Evil: Revelations. And in case you missed this related news, Nintendo’s own Kid Icarus: Uprising will also have a control option for the accessory when it hits stores on March 23.

Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D desk calendar. 100 of these are going to be handed out at random to people who play the Japanese eShop demo and fill out a survey. So there’s no way I’m going to get one of these.
How am I going to find out what day it is if Naked Snake doesn’t tell me? I’m worried. At least there’s still OtaClock so I can figure out the time without looking away from Metal Gear imagery.

A shot of the snakeskin-style 3DS set to be included with the limited edition Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D system bundle coming to Japan on March 8.
Hideo Kojima offered his Twitter followers this cropped peek at the special 3DS and its “embossed snake pattern” last night. Like many others, I presumed the bundle would include either a standard system, or a simple branded 3DS similar to that cover from Hori’s accessory line for the game. So, this is a nice surprise!
Expect Japanese details for the bundle on January 20.

Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D’s Japanese boxart. As usual, the black sidebar on the Japanese release makes the boxart look a lot cooler than the American box will.
Retailer GMStar offers some info about supposed new additions to the 3DS remake of Snake Eater, including the ability to walk while crouching, and some kind of expanded FPS mode. Maybe you can play in first-person all the time?
I hope these features mean there is still work being done on Snake Eater 3D. I just finished the HD port over the weekend, and playing that version makes my heart break even more when I remember what the 3DS game was like at E3.

Metal Gear Solid 3D Snake Eater “clear file” and tote bag, both available for sale at TGS this year. Hideo Kojima tweeted these last week, but in the rush of Gamescom news, I missed it. So here it is now! Check it out! It’s stuff!

I like that tote bag and all, but I wonder what kind of locale that camo is designed for. “Those guards will never find me, or the items I’m toting, in this pile of leaves!”

New 3DS commercial for the UK brings out the system’s graphical showpieces to underscore that this isn’t just a new DS model — an idea Nintendo doesn’t feel it’s effectively conveyed to consumers. Note the new slogan at the end: “This is not DS; this is Nintendo 3DS.”

Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D is a baffling inclusion in the trailer, as it’s not yet on store shelves like the other featured games, and reports indicate that it’s delayed into 2012 (in EU/AU at least; elsewhere, it’s unconfirmed).

Maybe it’s all for the best that MGS 3D is pushed back, provided that Konami is using that time to polish the title. Impressions from E3 were not favorable for the game, finding faults with its controls, graphics, and framerate.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (3DS) trailer in English. I’m posting this mostly because I enjoy looking at Metal Gear Solid 3 in almost any context (please don’t find an exception, pervos); but I also think it’s fun to spot all the hamfistedly 3D stuff in the trailer — the snake is RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOUUUUU etc.

However, the Japanese version of the trailer was released late last month, and some of you saw this at E3 anyway, so it’s not really new except for David Hayter’s grunts. Speaking of which, this is as good an opportunity as any to compare said grunts to those of his Japanese counterpart, Akio Otsuka!
