Samus Aran figures by Good Smile Company shown at Comiket 81, based on Metroid: Other M. I don’t really need a Zero Suit Samus in my house, but that Varia Suit Samus is pretty great. And you don’t have to tell people it’s from Metroid: Other M if you don’t want to.
(Note: I don’t want to talk about Metroid: Other M.)

“Happy Birthday, Samus” by Chris Furniss, in the style of his 31 Days of Zero Suit Samus project. Saturday was the 25th anniversary of the Japanese release of the first Famicom/NES game! When was the last time you went back and tried to play through that one? I attempt it periodically, but I get lost without automaps…
Far easier than getting through Metroid is just reading this great, longform blog post by Jeremy Parish. Do I feel bad linking to someone’s long, thoughtful article with a couple of quick sentences in a fanart post? Of course I do.

The latest drawing brings up an interesting philosophical question: if she’s wearing neither her Zero Suit nor her Power Suit, how can you tell she’s Zero Suit Samus?

Metroid “Chozo’s Gift” print by Ashley Davis. Our artist friend needs some money, and you need the cutest Metroid art of all time, so she’s selling 100 prints of this artwork originally created for the anniversary of a Denver game store. The prints are $15 each, plus $5 shipping (or $10 internationally).
Speaking of buying Ashley’s art, she also announced that you’ll be able to purchase a print of any art from her No Marios Allowed blog, including — oh man — this new Shantae piece.

Sad Samus reacts to Metroid Dread’s absence from E3 yet again. Cheer up, Samus! I heard there was a Metroid-themed Wii U demo that was shown, so there’s that.

Okay, now that we’re all just kind of staring at the screen in awe, here’s the rad news: you can download a playable tech demo now! The not so rad news (for certain people typing this post out right now) is that you’re going to need Windows to play it.

…Man, Metroids are really gross-looking, huh. I never really thought about that when playing the NES game. But it’s all … veiny and slimy and stuff. Maybe I prefer the Eyes5 plush version. Or the hat.

Metroid art by Ashley Davis, created for the second anniversary event of Denver’s Game On! game shop/LAN center. It’s so… cute…
With all the grousing about Metroid: Other M’s annoying story, it’s worth remembering the simple origins of the Metroid series: one young woman raised by bird monsters, happening upon statues of those bird monsters that hold upgrades to her awesome suit.

tags / metroid / ashley davis / jc / fanart / game onE-mug and “Visor” shirt, both shipping in mid-December from our pals at Fangamer (yeah, more Fangamer stuff! It’s two posts’ worth!) It seems like this shop is doing everything just for me, even when it isn’t giving us contest prizes or surprising us with buttons made to look like our mascot. That E-mug is a great way to drink out of something E-Tank-like without subjecting yourself to an energy drink.
The shop also has other new items shipping in December, including an Awesome Video Games DVD, a lovely “Skyline Poster”, and a Shark Punk figurine! Now I feel bad for linking to all those Black Friday deals (and for probably linking to more later), because there’s a lot of very desirable stuff here and we’re all broke.

Tokinsom has revamped the visuals since we first posted about the “Metroid II minigame” three weeks ago, adding a new environment and new songs. My only complaint with the video is you don’t get to see Samus curl up into a morph ball — perhaps that isn’t implemented yet in the engine?
I love the music, though! You can listen to the “Green Zone” and “Mini Boss” tracks in the player below:
