Why we can’t have nice Miiverse things ⊟
Thanks to a glitch in Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, 3DS owners were able to post any image saved on their system to the game’s online Miiverse community, instead of being restricted to uploading only in-game screenshots. What you’d expect happened this morning after the glitch was discovered: people posting photos of Kate Upton, lewd artwork of Samus and Peach, and shots of the best anime Cory in the House.
Admins eventually stepped in and deleted those posts, also turning off the screenshot-posting feature. Just going by this fiasco, I can see why Nintendo puts so many restrictions on the (kid-filled) social network in the first place..

Smash Bros. fans react to Japan-only demo ⊟
I’m sure Nintendo will release a 3DS eShop demo for Smash Bros. to America and Europe soon (if not tomorrow), but the artists behind these pieces seem too impatient for that. They stormed Miiverse last night after the trial released in Japan to sketch out their displeasure with Nintendo’s decision (and with series director Masahiro Sakurai) not to immediately release it in the West too.
For now, if you want to see people playing as Mario, Link, Animal Crossing’s Villager, Mega Man, and Pikachu, you can tune in to one of several Twitch streams of the Japanese demo. Thanks to Y.S for the images!

Sakurai finally cracked ⊟
Crushed under the weight of endless demands that he include Goku in the new Smash Bros., series director Masahiro Sakurai threw in the Saiyan just to make everyone shut-up about it. In a follow-up Miiverse comment, he added, “And if you kids keep pestering me about SpongeBob and Ridley, so help me god, I am canceling the entire thing.”*
Smash Bros. played A Link Between Worlds-style ⊟
Nintendo has posted the winners of its recent Art Academy Sketchpad x Zelda drawing Miiverse competition. The bottom entry took home the grand prize, but Zapp’s Silver Medal-winning entry was totally robbed. Via L~A!
What the butt is going on at Miiverse ⊟
I’m not even talking about the lovesick notes to Luigi. I’ve accepted that Miiverse has become a dating social network built to help singles out there looking for long-term Luigi relationships — LuigiPeopleMeet, if you will.
No, it’s the posts of middle schoolers seeking out boyfriends and girlfriends on the Wii U/3DS community: you need to read this. It’s insane. It’s amazing. It’s beautiful. It’s heartbreaking. Kids, don’t do this. But please keep doing it. It’s James Cameron’s Titanic, if it took place on Miiverse.

Miiverse, new firmware update out for 3DS ⊟
So that 3DS firmware update debuted last night, bringing with it Miiverse, Nintendo Network ID support (link up with your Wii U NNID, share an eShop wallet), and some camera and screenshot stuff. One item that I hadn’t seen previously announced is the update removes the limit on system transfers (previously limited to five transfers) — now you can move data from one 3DS to another once every seven days.
- Please keep in mind that you won’t be able to switch regions after registering your NNID or use multiple currencies. Funds you have stored for currencies in other regions will no longer be usable.
- In-game screenshot system sounds janky, forcing you to suspend your game, open Miiverse, and make a post (not allowing you save the image locally). Not every game is supported either, like Pokémon XY, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, Virtual Console titles, and others. At least the actual image quality is apparently really good.
- As Daniel points out in the comments, “your 3DS cannot see your Wii U Friends List, so you have to manually ‘follow’ all your friends if you want to catch up on their Miiverse posts on the go.”
Miiverse can be too much sometimes ⊟
Seriously, this is breaking my heart. I’ve mostly ignored the Miis wandering around my Super Mario 3D World screen, but this shot posted by Nintenpics convinced me I need to talk to these little dudes and look for any cries for help.
No Miiverse messaging for 3DS ⊟
Well, that’s disappointing. When it releases next month, the Miiverse app for 3DS won’t let you send direct messages to your friends like you can in the Wii U version, according to a Nintendo customer service rep. We typically don’t take CS statements as gospel, but this is too specific to dismiss:
"We don’t plan on adding the ‘exchange messages between Friends’ option on the Nintendo 3DS Miiverse. Additionally, there are no plans to allow Nintendo 3DS Miiverse users to use the Friend Request feature."
It’s also not surprising, considering how Nintendo shut down Swapnote's online functions supposably after sex predators exploited the service to take advantage of minors. Plus the company disabled Flipnote 3D's free Friends Gallery feature in Japan (the app has been delayed in the West) presumably for the same reason.
It’s all super disappointing Nintendo really seemed to be making strides with the 3DS’s online communication features. Thanks, pedos.

Unified Nintendo IDs, Miiverse in next 3DS update ⊟
Discussing the next firmware update for 3DS coming next month, Nintendo mentioned we’ll finally get that Miiverse feature promised earlier this year — just in time to replace Swapnote.
You’ll also now be able to register a Nintendo Network ID with your 3DS, and combine your eShop wallet balance if you link it with a Wii U NNID. While this doesn’t mean you can now cross-buy games (purchasing a game once to play it on both systems), this does make the feature possible.
Oh, and you’ll be able to view Youtube videos on your 3DS some time later this month.

The Minecraft stage in Super Smash Bros. looks rad ⊟
Shout outs to BonkinHead. Yes, it seems silly that someone would confuse Pilotwings with Minecraft, but that’s how kids are these days — a lot of them view everything through the lens of Minecraft. I have a nephew who thinks Fallout is a Minecraft texture. That’s what’s going on with video games now.
Anyway, who doesn’t love fighting on a plane? It was dope in Gunstar Heroes (well, that was a helicopter, but you know what I mean), and it will probably be dope in Super Smash Bros.
