Hella Pokémon 3DS XL mock-ups

Since you all enjoyed yesterday’s Poké Ball and Game Boy 3DSes, here’s a slew of XL mock-ups from Douglife (via ramenoodles). My fave out of the lot is definitely Wailmer at the bottom center.

[Update: Nintendo will put out an Eevee 3DS XL in Japan on May 15]

Poké Ball and Game Boy-themed 3DS mock-ups

Just posting these with the hope that someone will feel inspired to modify their system with similar looks. I really like the Poké Ball design (both are from Wenis), but I’d prefer Nintendo of America bringing over th Charizard XL. Hey, we got the Pikachu XL with Pokémon Mystery Dungeon, so it could happen with Pokémon X and Y!

Downton Abbey as an SNES game

While there’s not nearly enough of the feisty Dowager Countess of Grantham in here, and the idea of Mrs. Patmore poisoning Cousin Matthew is preposterous, I can’t help but love this anyway for Bill Kiley’s fantastic chip arrangement of the Downton Abbey theme.

Who knew that Taito released a Famicom game based on The Secret World of Arrietty way back in 1986? How is that even possible, when the film just came out two years ago? Oh, right, it’s another mock-up from SimplyAwful.

“The story loosely follows the book and movie in that Arrietty must go through many trials before she can be a full fledged Borrower. This includes finding everyday items like sugar and herbs as well as battling (or escaping from) spiders, cats and, in one intense encounter, a bunch of stomping feet in a hallway!”

Four more fake Adventure Time games, complete with custom Famicom cartridge labels (click for larger images).

You can read descriptions for all the titles and see more photos at SimplyAwful’s blog dedicated to custom game labels. Oh, and make sure to check out the original batch of Adventure Time Famicom cartridges here, too.

Adventure Time games for Famicom! Or fake labels based on the cartoon and slapped on Famicom cartridges, Famicase style. This is a thing people do all the time now!

In fact, the site behind these mock-ups, SimplyAwful, is dedicated to making all sorts of custom labels for both real and fake games. There’s lots of hot stuff here.

Maybe someone will actually build a homebrew NES project based on these mock-ups at this weekend’s Adventure Time Game Jam (as detailed by the recently launched and Venus Patrol)? How math would that be?

Wii U interface/menu mock-up by Cassio Leonardo, with cues taken from 3DS and Wii’s channel setups. Swapnote would be killer — and Netflix needs to be available day one —  but a lot of this is pie-in-the-sky stuff for launch.

Famicom-inspired Nintendo 3DS mock-up. Though there was a Famicom edition of the Game Boy Micro and GBA SP, we never got an official red and white design for the DS line (there was at least one fanmade DS Lite mod and Famicom cartridge-style DSi shells at least).
Perhaps Nintendo will make this happen in 2013, the 30-year anniversary of the Famicom’s Japanese release? Or maybe this is something you can assemble yourself with parts from Flame Red and Ice White 3DSes?

Secret Scoop! Compare the 3DS Expansion Slide Pad peripheral’s real size in these mock-ups blended with actual consoles/structures (click for larger images).

It’s kind of big, isn’t it?

If Apple and Nintendo teamed up to design the 3DS — a mock-up by Major Kuro (click for larger images). The Apple branding looks tacky on the top lid, but I am digging the black and white scheme, and the subtle gray strip.

I’m surprised we haven’t heard about an ivory 3DS yet, considering the popularity of the Polar White DS Lite edition (seeing as it was the only color available for some time), and the swankiness of the Pure White DS Phat. The system should’ve launched with this color!

Along with this Apple design, Major Kuro created these rad renders of the 3DS with a Japanese artwork design, and a Piranha Plant popping out the 3D screen.
