Homebrew coder Smealum just posted a new public update for DScraft, the unauthorized adaptation of Mojang’s Minecraft for Nintendo DS. He’s actually put out a number of new builds in the past several weeks, but those were available to only closed beta testers.
There’s a ton of features introduced since that first public demo, including dynamic water, a dynamic lighting system, cave generation, an inventory, and more.
Now all we need are some enemy mobs! Oh, and an update for Lumikha/LuaCraft, the other homebrew DS project obviously inspired by Minecraft, but in 2D like Terraria.

Minecraft DS by Smelaum, another homebrew project seeking to adapt Mojang’s indie PC game for a handheld.
While this 3D demo is impressive, it only has a few basic features: terrain generation, adding/removing blocks, and map streaming from the game file. Smealum says he is working on an actual level generator (what you see here is generated with test code) and support for saving.
As for LuaCraft, that 2D Minecraft-inspired homebrew we featured a while ago, it looks like that’s still under development but now under the name Lumikha. It’s a shame that there isn’t any 3DS homebrew, as both of these projects could benefit from that system’s extra power.

2D, Minecraft-style homebrew game for DS. Like Terraria, this early-in-development project interprets Mojang’s 3D sandbox game into a 16-bit-esque sidescrolling thing.
French coder Fantasix says LuaCraft — unrelated to the identically titled Minecraft custom server — has the basic functions of its progenitor: you can move, place, and break blocks, as well as create items out of blocks. LuaCraft also supports mods, so you can add content and features from other people (or make your own) to the game.
You can download the most recent version (1.2.3) here, but keep in mind that Fantasix is putting out a lot of updates, which is awesome. If you can read French or don’t mind using Google Translate, you can follow LuaCraft’s development, read up on the controls/crafting, or learn about how to make mods in this discussion thread.
