Cool Monster Hunter 4 shirts by Uniqlo
These are just four of an approximate fuckton of Monster Hunter designs being produced by Uniqlo’s UT line for sale in stores and online. The cool thing about Uniqlo shirts (besides the “looking rad” thing) is that even the stuff that doesn’t seem like it would make it out of Japan shows up in the US stores and on the website!
The official release date on these is May 31. There’s underwear too, don’t worry.
Monster Hunter Zinogre figure
Okay, so I haven’t seen a Zinogre in MH3U yet – I’m still dealing with the occasional Arzuros and failing half the time at that – but I already like this figure.
Not going to lie, it’s entirely because of the lil’ hunter it comes with, for you to swipe away like it’s nothing. The figure is up for preorder at Jlist for $55, or your retailer of choice.
Monhun Off-TV update coming 4/15
Aw yiss. I’ve been spending every free moment training on Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate 3DS (which means I’m still in the tutorial) so when the update arrives allowing me to play on the Wii U GamePad, Eric and I will be able to hunt together.
That update is coming April 15, Capcom announced, at 5pm PDT. The update also allows North American and European players to hunt together, so maybe we’ll be able to find a few compatriots when we’re no longer too humilating to behold.
I do not know what I’m doing yet. I’m so bad at this you guys.
Thanks for clearing that up
This Japanese lesson and Death Note joke comes from Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate (the photo is from Rewind:Replay). It’s one of many gags thrown into the script by localization team 8-4. It’s getting to the point where I want to play everything 8-4 translates (e.g. Fire Emblem: Awakening, Dragon Quest VI DS).
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate insert for 3DS boxes
Similar to that custom Fire Emblem: Awakening insert we featured last month, you can print this Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate artwork and slip it into the game’s 3DS box. Thanks for making one of these, Robby!
Good news for those of you who double-dipped to buy the Wii U and 3DS versions of this — Capcom intends to release its save data transfer and packet relay tools (the latter lets you play MH3U 3DS online if your Wii U is hooked up with a LAN adapter) to the eShop tomorrow.
Grethe B spent 10 months putting together this incredible outfit modeled after Monster Hunter’s female Rathalos blademaster armor — she completed it just in time for Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate’s release!
She says it’s a little hard to move in the outfit, but I’m amazed that she can move at all considering it’s hard to tell there’s even a person under all that armor. You can see photos of Grethe creating the outfit here.
You can find more of Justin’s awesome sprite work in games like Tribute’s Wizorb and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game. I think it was Personasama who once mentioned to me that the Scott Pilgrim team was crazy about the Monster Hunter series, with some members putting hundreds of hours into the games.
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is out today! Both JC and I should be getting our preorders soon (probably tomorrow), and we intend to resurrect our legendary and universally feared guild for online play, Garfield & Friends.
We have several openings in the group that we are currently looking to fill — right now we’re seeking proactive and enthusiastic individuals, preferably an elite few who know how to play Monster Hunter and don’t mind teaming up with noobs who have a million questions (e.g. just putting this out there, how exactly do you hunt monsters).
Oh, and you need to watch this Monster Hunter Shopping Network promo.
Soon, we will hunt ultimate monsters (3)
So, are we doing this? Are we all going to get Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate next week and play online with each other? Or are we going to put it off, wait to hear how others handle the steep learning curve, decide it’s too late to buy it now, wistfully read tweets/forum posts of others’ MonHun exploits, and tell ourselves we’ll get the next one for sure?
Monster Hunter Beginner’s Guide
Monster Hunter fansite Culty took on a very important job: writing a guide to help Monster Hunter neophytes pick up the idiosyncratic series. The Monster Hunter Beginner’s Guide is available either as a $9 ebook or a $25 print edition, which includes a super cute Nyan Jirou print.
Culty is giving the book away along with copies of the game and a lot of other fun stuff, to one lucky person who signs up for the mailing list. If you want just a bit of it for free, check out a four-page preview. It’s just about armor!
I’m thinking about reading this before I get into Monhun (although I’m not going to be playing at launch, likely, just because I don’t have the time at the moment). Monster Hunter is kind of intimidating.
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate for Wii U will have off-TV play, cross-region online
I know both of these were sore points for Monster Hunter fans who were otherwise pleased with this anticipated title, but it’s great to hear that Capcom will address these issues with a post-launch patch hitting some time in April.
I presume quite a few people will skip out on the 3DS game after this news, though. If only that version had online, too!
New Monster Hunter 4 trailer
As we wait for this to hit Japan this summer, and for Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate to launch here next month, don’t forget that demos for the latter release on the 3DS and Wii U eShops today!
As usual, you can see the full list of new downloadable 3DS games on our Upcoming Releases page.
Super cute Monster Hunter 4 figures
Fans in Japan will be able to win these Banpresto-made figures by picking up tickets at their local 7-11 next March. The adorable Felyne Tank might be the coolest toy vehicle since the TMNT Pizza Launcher — though it doesn’t quite match that toy’s brilliance because it fails to shoot pizzas.
