Here’s a silly way to jury rig a physical directional pad onto the virtual camera controls in Monster Hunter Tri-G (if you’re not using the Circle Pad Pro/Frankenstick)!

That blue gel-like material is a “shock absorbable pad” commonly used in Japan under furniture, electronics, and appliances to prevent them from tipping over during an earthquake. They’re pretty cheap, too.

On the topic of the Circle Pad Pro, remember those reports about it having a battery life of around 480 hours on a single AAA, according to the Japanese manual? Someone actually tore down the peripheral, examined its innards, measured its power consumption, and found that it could last quite a bit longer — conceivably up to 540 hours of continuous use! That’s a lot of Monster Hunter.

Photos of the limited edition Monster Hunter Tri-G 3DS and the Circle Pad Pro/Expansion Slide Pad/Frankenstick together (click for larger images).

Even though the Circle Pad Pro only comes in black, it doesn’t look bad with a White 3DS…  which would mean more if we had that color in the U.S.. It likely won’t look as nice on the Aqua Blue, Coral Pink, or Flame Red systems.

Monster Hunter Tri-G’s 3DS menu icon is very cute.

Yesterday, a report showed up at Andriasang (I wrote it up for Joystiq) that the Expansion Slide Pad/Circle Pad Pro accessory shipping with MH3G will run on a single AAA battery for 480 hours. It had better be something like that, because I really don’t want to mess with that damn screw on the battery case.

Why does it even have a screw? Not only does the battery case already clip in, there’s a 3DS on top of it at all times. It’s secure.

In other MH3G news, it’s coming out in Japan … today! And of course, there are lines:

The Monster Hunter Claw, 3DS edition. A good motivator for picking up that Circle Pad Pro! Now that the eShop has a limited demo of Monster Hunter Tri-G (in Japan), MH fans are hard at work examining the game.

For panties.

One user also posted a visual comparison of the 3DS demo with what looks like the same spot in Monster Hunter Portable 3rd on PSP. The 3DS game looks … way foggier. Of course, it could be a difference in screen brightness, or just in the way the screen photographed. It’s too early to draw conclusions about what that place looks like for real!

Opening FMV for Monster Hunter Tri-G — notice the new lava monster guy at the end of the video! This — and the Circle Pad Pro — hits Japan in less than two weeks. Can you believe they’re getting not just Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 over there, but also this huge title?

I would be jealous about this being Japan-only for now, but I have a feeling I’m gonna be too busy trying to three-star Mario Kart 7’s 150cc courses for weeks anyway.

Capcom intends to put out a two-quest demo for Monster Hunter Tri-G, which will be available through download stations at retailers starting tomorrow, and through the eShop at a later date. Like the demo Konami plans to release for New Love Plus through 7-11 locations and the eShop, this trial will have a 30-play limit.

Monster Hunter Tri-G Protect Filter by Hori. Even if (or when) Capcom announces the game for North America, we’re unlikely to get the fancy special-edition 3DS. These stickers will work as a substitute in a pinch, to let everyone nearby know in no uncertain terms that you’re huntin’ monsters.

The set includes covers for the front, back, and inside of the 3DS, as well as a touchscreen cover, six stickers in all. It’ll be out on December 10 in Japan, for ¥1,280 ($16.61).

Monster Hunter Tri-G commercial. This is a weirdly straightforward effort for a game ad — just “here’s a bunch of gameplay footage” played on a white 3DS (looks soooo nice). It’s none of the distracting bullshit you’d expect from a video game commercial.

Don’t worry, Capcom did plenty of distracting bullshit too. Here are some costumed Japanese actors ambushing people with Monster Hunter Tri-G demos:

Japanese retailer not carrying PS Vita for lack of Monhun →

At least, I think that’s what’s going on. A poster photographed by a Hachimaki user, purportedly found at a shop, claims that the shop won’t be carrying the PS Vita because there’s no Monster Hunter game for it. Is this an indication of what the launch is going to look like? “Monster Hunter or no deal?” Or is it just one hilariously short-sighted retailer? (Or a joke?)

Of course, there’s very little doubt that Japan will see a Monster Hunter Vita game at some point. And as soon as that’s announced, you’ll be able to roll up into whatever store this is and order yourself a Vita.

Concept art for Capcom’s upcoming plush SEVERED TAIL. This Monster Hunter item, a replica of a Rathalos tail, is definitely the most Halloweeny thing I’ve seen today. Gruesome!

Way to make me feel bad for hunting monsters. This thing’s going to give me nightmares, and then I’ll wake up and realize that the pillow I’m hugging is OH GOD A SEVERED TAIL.

Capcom’s Monster Hunter Tri-G 3DS and Slide Pad pouch. It’s not the most attractive case, but it will hold the Frankenstick add-on, and series fans might appreciate the scale-ish flap and emblem impressed on the strap.

This is for sale on the Japanese e-Capcom shop, priced at ¥2,940 ($39) and shipping on December 10, when the game and the limited edition 3DS ships overseas.

We have more evidence that Monster Hunter Tri-G is headed to the West, by the way, as Official Nintendo Magazine published a preview listing a Fall 2012 release for Europe. That’s a year from now! Perhaps Capcom will use that extra time to add online features?
