Square Enix’s European website for My Pet Shop features, in addition to the expected (super cute) wallpapers, trailer, and such, two Flash games based on in-game activities.
Penguin’s Playtime is about a penguin catching fish in a net. It’s “playtime” because the penguin is using a net. If it were a real survival situation, of course, the little guy wouldn’t be fooling around and catching fish “human style”. The other, Bathtime Bonanza, is about bathing animals with the stylus. The faster you wash, the wider the variety! Of animals. To wash.
I think it’s a nice touch that they included the ability to change the color of the fake DS for basically no reason. In any case, I know these are silly, mostly-unremarkable minigames, but I seem to be the person who talks about My Pet Shop, and I wouldn’t want to “disappoint”.

Christmas card from Square Enix Europe. Finally, the nightmare of not being one hundred percent certain what My Pet Shop was can end. It’s definitely Taito’s Pet Shop Monogatari, and, strangely, this Christmas card is SE’s first direct acknowledgement of the game outside of Japan.
What a weird way to announce a game.

There might have been some kind of tricky rights issue with tying it into the Cooking Mama series, since Majesco has those rights over here. The good news is that if Square Enix is publishing it, it’ll probably be $20, like other Taito games. Good news for me and probably nobody else!
