DS/3DS Release Dates & Sales // Tiny Cartridge Stickers For Your Games!

Tekken 3D Prime Edition’s launch trailer. Lots of worthwhile games shipping today, including this one! I’ll probably end up buying Tekken 3D — passing on Tales of Abyss, even though my 3DS is in need of an RPG — so expect me to rock some of your faces online with Ling Xiaoyu and her Art of Phoenix soon.

By the way, don’t forget that we have a site dedicated to tracking DS/3DS releases and sales: DS Dates. It also has a spinoff blog that you should follow if you’re interested at all in ridiculous 3DS comics and 3D photos of animals.

Ohhh, excellent: new Tekken 3D trailer introduces you to the game’s touchscreen combos, online play (worldwide), 700+ unlockable/StreetPass cards featuring character art, 60 frames per second matches, and other junk.

I hope the game has options to play against people who don’t use the touchscreen macros, like Super Street Fighter IV 3D, because Tekken is already cheesy enough as it is. Then again, after 15+ years of playing the series with my index and middle fingers, and the 3DS not really being a comfortable system for that, I might end up being one of those dudes who uses pre-entered combos…

Tales of the Abyss combat video for Guy Cecil. Brief profile on Guy, who doesn’t know how to talk to women:

“Guy is a servant in the Fabre household. He was first taken on as a babysitter, and ever since then, Guy has been like both a brother and a parent to the palace-bound Luke, [the protagonist of the game]. He is uncomfortable around women, so his kind words to them often lead to awkward situations.”

Namco Bandai also put out a combat clip for Anise Tatlin, and this combat system walkthrough.

Tales of the Abyss ships in Europe on November 25, while the North American release was pushed to early 2012 for some reason. So, the only 3DS JRPGs we’ll have to play this year in the U.S. are SMT: Devil Survivor The OC (if you can find a reasonably priced copy) and Harvest Moon: The Tale of Two Towns 3D. Oh well, at least there’s Solatorobo: Red the Hunter on the DS…

Tekken 3D Prime Edition trailer from Gamescom. Just in case a portable 3D version of the fighting game series isn’t a big enough draw for you, Namco Bandai is packing copies of Tekken: Blood Vengeance, Digital Frontier’s CG-animated film releasing this fall, into each cartridge — the first we’ve heard of a full-length movie on a 3DS cart.

I love Tekken, but this seems doomed to be lost in the sea of upcoming releases for the franchise: Tekken Hybrid, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Street Fighter X Tekken, Tekken X Street Fighter, and the Tekken WiiU game. I hope Namco Bandai is able to at least match Super Street Fighter IV 3D’s appeal by offering online matches, Streetpass bonuses, and other extras in this 3DS release.

Brave Company brings hero management simulation to Nintendo 3DS →

Andriasang posted info on Famitsu ‘s preview of a new 3DS game called Brave Company by Bandai Namco, possibly the game that the publisher’s current countdown site is set to reveal. The Cattle Call-developed title puts players in charge of a company that hires heroes, interviews “knights, archers, priests and wizards,” and then sends them out into the city to help people.

The concept sounds great and all (and thematically similar to Sega’s Rent-a-Hero games), but the thing that really gets my attention about this still-kinda-unconfirmed game is the announcement of music by Japanese chiptune genius Professor Sakamoto. That game is definitely going to sound awesome, and if it’s a game designed to fit with SKMT music, it’ll probably be pretty cool.

Andriasang says the game will be out in Japan on October 27, with “an iOS version” out in August, though I’m not sure if that means the same game or some kind of spinoff.

Tales of the Abyss’ PS2 and 3DS loading times compared. The portable version doesn’t completely cut the load times for the animated portions, but this is still a vast improvement! Yay for cartridge-based media (which, you might notice, we have a particular fondness for).

The handheld RPG port released this week in Japan, and hits Europe on November 10 and the U.S. this fall.

Tales of the Abyss’s Japanese commercial has … a little bit of gameplay footage. At the end.

Did you miss it? Here it is again, preceded by a different animated cutscene!

Tales of the Abyss arrives in Japan on June 30. Namco says it’ll be available “later this year” in North America.

Report: Solatorobo coming to the States

Solatorobo, the visually excellent action RPG and CyberConnect2’s spiritual sequel to Tail Concerto, will see a North American release, according to Nintendo Life.

Go Nintendo confirms that the game is Stateside-bound, and says an announcement should be coming soon. Neither site revealed who will publish it, though it’s said that Nintendo of America won’t be handling this one.

Our money is on XSEED Games! And when we collect our winnings on that gamble, we’ll be sure to lose it all immediately by doubling our bet on the publisher also preparing to localize Game Center CX 2.

Tekken 3D footage and details. There’s little info on this project — it’s likely still very early into development — but we can at least watch a decent amount of video from the tech demo Namco Bandai showed off at E3 (skip to 1:00).

Series producer Katsuhiro Harada, unafraid to pop the collar on his pink shirt for the cameras, also shared some details. What we know so far, thanks to GameSpot:

  • 60 frames per second even with 3D enabled
  • Asuka, Bryan, Heihachi, Kazuya, and Lilli appeared in the interactive (not playable) demo
  • Harada wants to include “all the characters that people are familiar with from past installments”, plus a few surprises with the lineup and features

What we don’t know:

  • If this experience will be Tekken Tag 2 or Tekken 6 or Tekken vs Street Fighter or something else
  • Release date, online matches, etc.
  • If there’s a pet-raising mode with Kuma/Panda

First English trailer for Solatorobo: Red the Hunter, which releases in Europe on July 1st — I’m crossing my fingers for Nintendo of America to announce a publishing deal at E3 next month, as importing the DSi-enhanced action RPG could be difficult.

This clip focuses on the cutscenes animated by Madhouse Studios, which are quite nice, but the rest of the game looks hot, too. Nintendo of Europe will show off the gameplay portions in upcoming videos that it will post every other week until Solatorobo’s launch.

Trailer for Treasure Report, a new puzzle game from Bandai Namco being released May 26 in Japan. Konami’s been making strides in the field of biting Professor Layton’s style in the last couple of years, first with Zac and Ombra and then Doctor Lautrec, but here’s Namco Bandai showing us how it’s done.

Treasure Report follows 19th-century journalists John and Emily, accompanied by a kid and a dog, as they solve the mystery of a dead man’s missing wealth, with all the clues coming in the form of GUESS WHAT, PUZZLES.

You can watch more videos (commercials, gameplay clips) at the Japanese Treasure report website.

Nintendo bringing Solatorobo to Europe

Solatorobo, the promising action-RPG and spiritual sequel to Tail Concerto has been formally announced for a release in Europe (and Russia, Turkey, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand), courtesy of a co-publishing agreement between Nintendo and Namco Bandai.

Should we hold out hope for a U.S. announcement at E3? Or will this be yet another Nintendo-published DS release that only Japan and Europe gets to enjoy, joining a list that so far includes Last Window, Freshly-Picked Tingle’s Rosy Rupeeland, Jam with the Band, Face Training, and Inazuma Eleven (I think we’ll hear about this one soon).

If this does end up as a Japan/Europe-only release, what will really suck is that it’s DSi-enhanced, so importers will only be able to play the game on older DS Phat/Lite systems or on DSi/3DS systems from those territories.
