We mentioned before that Tommo is putting out five three-game packs and a 15-game mega pack for the Neo Geo X on June 25. I got to hold the packaging — meant to mimic the Neo Geo boxes that seemed like mini-suitcases when we were kids — at E3, and I loved the whole deal. Unfortunately the box’s interior isn’t finalized so I couldnt take shots of that.
The game card in each pack includes a Neo Geo X firmware upgrade promising “game save functionality, improved TV aspect ratio compatibility, improved sound quality,” and user interface enhancements. I asked Tommo’s rep if the upgrade will affect any of the hardware hacking people are enjoying with the system, and he said it shouldn’t, but no guarantees on that!

Five three-game “Neo Geo X Classics” cards, and one single “Mega Pack” with all three, will release for the Neo Geo X handheld/console on June 25.
Here’s what’s on each:
Each card is also loaded with the device’s first system update with control, audio, video, and saving tweaks, and comes packaged with a “rocket cable” for travel charging.
Those are some big-ass boxes for little cards!

Real talk, this thing is not a good idea for me. Last time we posted about this, people told me it was maybe not the best thing, and I definitely cannot afford to be dropping cash on novelty game systems right now, with my current circumstances.
However, I see that it’s even cheaper on Amazon now, and HNNNNNNNNGGGHHHHH.

The Neo Geo X handheld, console, and arcade stick bundle (as shown in this photo taken by Ryuichiro Ban) is now available with a 25 percent discount, making it only slightly more expensive than the $130 that the handheld by itself will go for starting April.
If you need more convincing to pick this up, lose yourself in this GIF extravaganza. Also: the system has been hacked.

This starts shipping out today, and since I don’t have the cash to splurge on this throwback handheld x console combo bundle, I’m making GIFs of it instead.
Just gonna stare at these for the next couple hours, sighing every few minutes while listening to Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas”.

You know that artwork of Jake the Dog enamored with his Everything Burrito? That’s me with the Neo Geo x Gold, limbs all stretching to hug the console.

GameSpot previews the Neo Geo X Gold. Surprise! The Neo Geo AES-shaped dock flips open to hide the handheld inside! According to PR rep David Bruno, the replica joysticks are using the same parts as the original stick.
Even better, the screen stretching on the handheld can be turned off!
I have a problem, guys. I suffer from the debilitating condition of WANTING ONE OF THESE.

The Neo Geo X handheld in action. The Famitsu post connected to this video has mysteriously vanished, but the video is pretty informative! For example, that stick is hella clicky. And the image is… stretched? It’s really weird that a device purpose-built to play Neo Geo games doesn’t have a screen with the same aspect ratio as the Neo Geo.
So far, the only place I know of that’s carrying this is GameStop, who includes a freebie Ninja Masters with purchase of the Gold system. I’m… kinda thinking about it?

The Neo Geo X Gold handheld is an actual thing, and it’s releasing around the world this December 6!
It’s priced at an astonishing $199.99, but the package does promise a lot: 20 preloaded classic games (e.g. Samurai Shodown II, The King of Fighters ‘95), a Neo Geo X Station that acts a charging dock and allows you to play your games on a TV, and a Neo Geo X Joystick.
The portable itself features a 4.3” LCD display and an expandable game card slot. See the full list of games and sign up for the mailing list to buy one here.

Some kind of Neo Geo portable device making the rounds today. Supposedly, this iPhone-styled handheld is licensed by SNK Playmore, but there’s all sorts of weird stuff going on in these photos — like the eratically labeled shoulder buttons, the “Select” button that turns into “Menu” in another shot, and just the general cheap look of it.
Despite those doubts over whether this is a real thing — and the fact you can already download a grip of Neo Geo titles on PSP/PS Vita — its advertised features are nice: 4.3-inch screen, 2GB internal storage with an SD card slot, analog stick, and 20 built-in North American Neo Geo games (e.g. Metal Slug, King of Fighters ‘94). It just needs Neo Geo Pocket/Neo Geo Pocket Color support!

Happy 20th anniversary, Neo Geo! If you’re looking for a way to celebrate the occasion, you’ve no doubt already come across the new Neo Geo Museum website and drooled over the gorgeous t-shirts.
You could also pick up SNK Arcade Classics on your system of choice for dirt cheap, or some Neo Geo games on Virtual Console for… not so cheap. Consider it a donation to SNK. You can even run Neo Geo games on the DS!
And in case you didn’t notice: thanks to Eric’s hard work, we’re sporting our own 100 Mega Shocking Neo Geo tribute art in the header today!

Absolutely amazing. You can actually see his collection losing its value in real time with this video — I imagine the carts plummeted to some sort of negative worth around the 1:24 mark, when the Neo Geo fan pulls down his shorts to tease viewers with a glimpse of his ass.
You can see an even more explicit photo of “Rot” on the Neo Geo forums, if this is something you’ve decided that you need more of in your life.
