Gunvolt out August 20 in Japan ⊟
Woo! Azure Striker Gunvolt, the 3DS action game by Inti Creates, will release to Japan’s eShop on August 20 for ¥1960 yen (about $20) — no release date for the West yet other than “Summer”. I did not realize it was that close to being finished. I guess I imagined an extended Mighty No. 9 type situation.

Senran Kagura producer Kenichiro Takaki muses about Life ⊟
The screencap comes from this… let’s call it NSFW video. It’s pretty reprehensible, but at the same time I think it’s hilarious that so many people put so much work into such a terrible joke?
Club Nintendo’s platinum/gold prizes are game downloads ⊟
Yeah, this year’s Elite gifts from North American Club Nintendo are not exclusive physical goods like they were in previous years – Mario hats, figurines, etc. They’re not even the old standby calendar.
Instead, this year you can select one of 16 Wii U or 3DS games as a free download, ranging from full retail games (like Game & Wario) to fucking Ice Climber.
Club Nintendo has gone down while I was writing this post, but you can get the reward here when it comes back up. Though I like my Club Nintendo Mario hat and all, I’m not hating on a free copy of Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D.

Yumi’s Odd Odyssey now $20 ⊟
Not a sale, not a promo – Yumi’s Odd Odyssey, the localized version of Sayonara Umihara Kawase, has had a permanent price drop as of yesterday, to $19.99 on the eShop.
I never properly reviewed it, but I like it a lot, and $20 is an even more appealing price for it! And, uh, I should get back to that now that I’m sorta between games. I suspect a lot of people are between games just at the moment.

The women of Smash ⊟
The original Smash Bros. had a single playable female character with Samus, while Melee and Brawl had three to six, depending on how you look at them (Samus/Zero Suit Samus, Peach, Nana, and Zelda/Sheik). Meanwhile, the new Smash Bros. has 12 (out of 40 characters, including those with female/male options)!
Sure, a few are based on the same character now split into two separate fighters (Zelda/Sheik and Samus/Zero Suit Samus), and four have male counterparts (Villager, Wii Fit Trainer, Robin, and Mii), but that’s still a lot more options for people who prefer to play as female characters!
And there might be even more female fighters revealed soon, as we don’t have the full roster. Japanese magazine CoroCoro will reportedly show all of the characters and stages planned for the 3DS version in its August 12 issue. Thanks to Regina for the pic, and Stef for pointing out the new Smash Bros.'s dramatic increase in women.
So much Monster Hunter 4G crap ⊟
With Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate announced for Japan, here comes an overwhelming monster-sized assortment of tie-in items. Literally tied in (as in attached to the game) is the limited edition, which comes with four figurines and a random plush when purchased from e-Capcom.
There are also way too many accessories, like screen cleaners, SD cards?, stickers, cases, earphones, this treasure chest looking thing… Anyway, go ahead and throw all of your Monster Hunter 4 accessories in the trash, because there are 4G items now. Via Ruliweb.
The biggest reveal from yesterday’s Smash Bros. news ⊟
Lucina’s boot game is too strong, OP even — Sakurai might need to put out a post-release patch and nerf her footwear back into those nubs everyone has in Fire Emblem Awakening. Credit to @Pikminister for noticing this!
I keep watching this Lucina and Captain Falcon fight ⊟
I thought for sure Wii Fit Trainer was going to be my new main when Smash Bros. releases, but today’s trailer has me considering Lucina and Robin (I can’t remember the last time I picked a male character as my go-to in a fighting game?). Watching this over and over might also push me to picking up Fire Emblem: Awakening again and finally completing it.
Have some cosplaying Pikachus ⊟
What is happening in this Pokemon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire artwork? How did we get to a point where Pikachu is dressed as a demure high society lady and a luchador?
This new trailer… doesn’t explain it at all, but does show footage of a trainer petting all these cosplaying Chus in Pokemon-Amie. Plus there’s stuff about the Elite Four, gym leaders, Mega Metagross, Secret Bases, etc., all less important than a Pikachu with big fake eyebrows.
Kozaki Yusuke art for the new Smash Bros. fighters! ⊟
Even though I’m disappointed that Nintendo went for the predictable characters versus the more interesting (Sully and/or Donnel) to fill Smash Bros.' roster, I ain't even mad because we get new art from Kozaki Yusuke to celebrate today's reveal. Yusuke, if you're not familiar with the name from our past posts, is the incredibly talented character artist who worked on the No More Heroes series, Liberation Maiden, and Fire Emblem: Awakening.
If Shovel Knight was released for Game Boy ⊟
… it would probably look a lot like this mock-up from Johan Vinet. You know what a Game Boy is, right? It’s one of those old things that looks like an iPhone case.
