Second wave of New 3DS cover plates ⊟

Ahhhh, Jibanyan and KK Slider cover plates for Japan! The camo designs are pretty nice too! The Yokai Watch/Jibanyan one doesn’t release until December 13, but all of the others — as well as the two Kawaii/Kyary Pamyu Pamyu designs — come out on November 21.

Oh, and a quick update on the “Wooden” cover plate — Finchiekins tells us it’s not actual wood, though it’s possible it could just be a thin piece of wood attached to the plastic? Some are saying it smells like sawdust? Considering that cover is double the price of others, I’d hope some part of it is actual wood!

Persona Q's finalized premium and standard editions ⊟

The contents for the $50 standard edition and $80 bundle are the same, but Atlus made some slight changes to the look of the main box and art book cover for the latter since its initial mock-ups. Both editions release on November 25.

The publisher also put out two more character trailers for Persona Q: one for Persona 3's Ken Amada, and the other for Persona 4's Naoto Shirogane.

Tales of the World: Reve Unitia's preorder 3DS themes ⊟
Preorder the 3DS version of the mobile SRPG in Japan, and you get a download code for seven different 3DS Home Menu themes, including the one above (via Siliconera).
I can see this happening a lot, since themes are relatively easy and cheap to produce. And it seems like a not-terrible idea! If you like a game enough to preorder it, you get a little extra decor for your 3DS to reflect it. Neato.
And if you don’t want to preorder anything, you don’t lose out on useful/important retailer-exclusive DLC. Even better!

Look who’s hiding on the New 3DS box ⊟
One of these yellow dots on the New 3DS’s wildly patterned packaging is not like the other! Much thanks to @Graphure for the photo!
I just got my New 3DS, and I’ll be posting photos and thoughts on our Twitter before putting up a review for the imported hardware.

Nintendo now accepting digital preorders ⊟
Surprise! Digital preorder buttons have appeared on some new Wii U and 3DS game pages at Nintendo’s official site, spotted by L~A. You can just click to buy the game, and either have it automatically download to your console (WHAT?) or get a code in your email when the game is out — you have the option of gifting that code to a friend, too!
You can do this for Super Smash Bros., Captain Toad, Fantasy Life, Pokemon Art Academy, Pokemon Omega Ruby, and Pokemon Alpha Sapphire.
I’m guessing that this is related to the eshop.nintendo.net website that surfaced mysteriously with no announcement. Service is still intermittent, but you can use that site to redeem eShop codes!
I’m so excited about this. I use the web PlayStation Store exclusively. It’s so much nicer to shop and redeem codes on a computer rather than a touchscreen.
Of course, you don’t have to use these digital preorders at all. You’re so, so welcome to continue using our Amazon links.

Pokemon ORAS demo out on October 21 in North America ⊟

Warning: to get the “Special Demo Version” and battle Sceptile, Blaziken, and Swampert, you have to go to Pokemon.com and set up a Trainer Club Account by October 19, then get a code out of the newsletter. I know. There’ll be “other methods” but those haven’t been announced yet, and so far do not include just downloading it from the eShop like a normal person.

Other news: more Mega Pokes! Latios, Latias, Pidgeot, and Beedrill! New trailer (above!)

Tetris Ultimate is cheaper on eShop for some reason ⊟

When it launches in North America November 11 (Vita and other versions coming later in the winter), Tetris Ultimate will cost $29.99 at retail and $19.99 on the 3DS eShop. I wonder why?

I mean, I don’t wonder why it’s cheaper on eShop, since there’s no manufacturing, printing, or shipping of boxes involved with a digital release. I wonder why every other game isn’t cheaper on eShop. (Remember when PSN versions of Vita games were cheaper?)

Actually, I don’t even wonder that. Publishers would wreck their relationships with retailers if every game was cheaper through a first-party download store.

Anyway, it’s cool to have a discount on this one game!

Preorder the New 3DS Smash Bros. Cover Plate ⊟
The rad white/grey Super Smash Bros. 3DS Cover Plate is now up for preorder at Play-Asia, for $17.99. It ships November 8 and would look quite nice on a New 3DS, if you have one of those. If you don’t have a New 3DS, it would look nice, uh… on your shelf? Your wall? I don’t know. Maybe just get one of these if you have or plan to get a New 3DS.

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate got Mega Man ⊟

Monster Hunter really is becoming Smash Bros. What with the new game featuring so many cameos from other companies’ mascots, it’s no surprise Capcom has thrown Mega Man into Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate. Along with featuring Mega Man’s classic armor for your Palico companions, the release will include a weapon that looks like Rush’s helmet.

The New 3DS’s stylus has an extra function ⊟
The head of the stylus is used to pop the New 3DS’s cover plates off! It looks like the top plate comes off easily, but the bottom one requires a Phillips head screwdriver to replace that plate, the MicroSD card, or the battery.
