Enroll in Pokemon Art Academy Oct. 24 ⊟

Do you like to draw, or paint? Or maybe just sketch and doodle? Pokemon Art Academy will come out in North America October 24, Nintendo announced today, helping you do the daily Trubbish sketch practice you desperately need.

You’ll be able to share art on Miiverse, as well as… anywhere else, since you can export your art to SD card.

I don’t actually know if Trubbish is in it.

Capcom “touching up” localization of Ace Attorney Trilogy ⊟
You got me, Capcom. I will happily buy the Ace Attorney games again. I wasn’t particularly interested in the 3DS ports, but Capcom’s localization team (led by localization director Janet Hsu, who posted this info on Capcom-Unity) went back through and fixed up the text. Hsu outlined some changes:

"We have re-mastered the sound effects and background music, and yes, we’ve even proof-read the text again! Rejoice, for the miracle did happen! Finally! …Not that that’s something I should be saying too loudly… *hangs head in shame*
All joking aside, the translation has received a much needed touch-up job, including some re-translations that I hope will help the dialogue flow more naturally, and tweaks that should make some of the more difficult cross-examinations easier to solve using, dare I say… LOGIC *gasp!*”

But if you want to avoid the localization entirely, you can do that. The 3DS release has the full Japanese text as well! How awesome! Ready to learn hella puns and legal vocabulary in Japanese? I’m not, but I’m damn sure gonna try!

She just beat her first Zelda ⊟

"Can I play again?" Too adorable. It looks like she played The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds on her 2DS, which is a great game worth crying over. Maybe her parents will download Link’s Awakening for her next?

Protect Me Knight 2 for 3DS eShop ⊟

Minna de Mamotte Knight is the sequel to an Xbox Live Indie Games release (remember that?) by Ancient Corp., the company run by legendary composer Yuzo Koshiro (and other members of his family!)  – which explains why the music in the trailer is so good and so authentically retro.

It’s sort of a tower defense-ish thing, in that you’re protecting a princess from oncoming waves of enemies, but you get to control the various characters with combo-based attacks and stuff, rather than just setting up and watching yourself fail over like three minutes.

The sequel adds a map editor with QR code sharing, two new character classes (an archer and… a wall-eyed knight on a fake horse join the previous game’s fighter, mage, amazon, and ninja-in-a-Borat-swimsuit). No idea if it’ll come out in the West, but the first one did, and Ancient hopes to release it.

There’s a Touch Detective rhythm game now ⊟

The Touch Detective franchise has a lot more to do with looking at a bunch of Funghi mushrooms than solving mysteries at this point. For example: Osawari Tantei Ozawa Rina: Nameko Rhythm (Touch Detective: Funghi Rhythm) has you tapping note icons on the touchscreen… all of which are Funghis.

Rakuten, the store that posted this trailer (via Nintendo Everything) has this shipping in November in Japan, with a free stylus. There’s no picture of the stylus, but I have a pretty good idea.

Oh yeah, 3D Thunder Blade is out in Japan too ⊟

Gunvolt is definitely the marquee release on the 3DS eShop in Japan, but Sega and M2 have a nice release too: the 3D Classics version of Thunder Blade, the top-down/third-person helicopter shooter.

Of course, it’s got all the usual screen options and different cabinet emulations, because M2 is the damn best. There’s also a “special” mode with different enemy and obstacle placements and other changes.

Fight Fantasy Life’s dragons with friends ⊟

Here’s a quick look at Fantasy Life’s multiplayer adventuring, featuring lots of dragon combat. This is one multiplayer mode; if you don’t happen to be playing in the same world/town, you can still chat with friends online through “Link Mode” which is kind of neat, although why aren’t you playing Fantasy Life with your friends, if you’re playing Fantasy Life at the same time?

Don’t forget, Gunvolt releases to the U.S. eShop on August 29 for $15.

3DS Homebrew Channel imminent ⊟
French coder Smealum is preparing to release a 3DS Homebrew Channel hack for 3DSes soon! Here’s why this project is awesome:
It works on the latest 3DS firmware, unlike previous hacks that require outdated versions from a year and a half ago
This will not load commercial or pirated 3DS ROMs, only homebrew applications and games (though it will be able to run emulators like this SNES one for 3DS)
It will support North American, European, and Japanese systems
While Smealum hasn’t implemented region unlocking yet, he says "playing games from other region[s] should almost definitely be possible" — I expect this will be with imported cartridges, not ROMs
Smealum has previously said that 3DS owners will not need to use a flashcard to get the exploit to work. Much thanks to @gemesisDev for the photo above and to Octopus for the extra info.

Hino: Yo-kai Watch “global expansion” in 2015 ⊟
Speaking with the site Zakzak (translated by Gematsu), Level-5 president Akihiro Hino said that the company plans a “global expansion” for the Yo-kai Watch franchise in 2015.
He didn’t, however, specify that it would be the game, leading me to advise caution before you start waving your commemorative Yo-kai Watch pennants. The franchise is a large multimedia business in Japan, and the only part of it Hino mentioned specifically was toys: “We’ve already obtained approval from an overseas toy maker, saying it will ‘absolutely be a success.’”
One Level-5 franchise is already coming to the US minus game: Little Battlers Experience, which is launching on Nicktoons as an anime next week, with no sign of any of the games.
So, like, maybe Yo-kai Watch the game series is being localized. Something Yo-kai Watch related definitely is, but it’s not definitely either of the games. Image via chobisuke!
