Katamari Damacy/Noby Noby Boy shirts for $10 →

If, like me, you wish you could wear a different one of Panic’s We Love Katamari or Noby Noby Boy shirts every day of the week, here’s the opportunity to roll a bunch of them up and build a respectable Wardrobe Star. Panic has discounted its remaining stock to $10!

Supplies are pretty limited, so the design you want may not be available in your size. And as ever, supplies are only going to become more limited after I start telling people about it, like I just did. Sorry/you’re welcome!

The first of three videos that demonstrate all the wonderful possibilities that are contained within the iPhone version of Noby Noby Boy!

The wait’s been so long that it almost felt like it would never happen, but alas, that day is almost here. And it looks to be just whimsical as the PS3 original, yet is totally its own animal, which is a very good thing; console to iPhone ports are generally trainwrecks, with the virtually unplayable iPhone version of Katamari coming instantly to mind (though oddly enough, the iPhone treatment of Metal Gear Solid 4 is actually excellent).

Part one is simply a primer, part two shows all the odd little activities that should appeal to kindergartners and make it more of a “game” than the original, and part three touches upon its integration with the iPhone’s camera. More than anything, these videos demonstrate how any boardroom meeting would be far less tedious if puppets were involved.

Custom Noby Noby Boy and Katamari Damacy PSP-3000. I have no idea where this grainy image came from, but I spotted it in Fort90’s latest round-up of alternative gaming news/media. I wouldn’t mind owning this, though the (cute) faces and lines painted on the screen would make it hard to actually play games with the system.

[Update: Brandon, who posted the photos combo, pointed out in the comments that Katamari/NNB creator Keita Takahashi himself painted the PSP for a giveaway.]

Also related, this charming interpretation of Noby Noby Boy in Mario Paint, illustrated by Olias Ben El:

Noby Noby Boy bento by Anna the Red. He’s made of sushi! How great is that?

I can’t help but think that Keita Takahashi, being a Noby Noby sushi creator himself, would approve.

Noby Noby Boy cupcakes, unstretched. I predict we’ll see a lot of things done with Boy—he’s adorable and easy to replicate.

Noby Noby Boy t-shirts are on the way! Panic, the same company that collaborated with Keita Takahashi and Ryo Kimura for the wonderful Katamari Damacy shirts, will soon offer designs based on Takahashi’s fucked-up downloadable PS3 game, which is annoyingly out of my price range despite nominally costing $5.

The official Noby Noby Boy site, whose address is an iconic representation of the character (!), features this tiny preview image of a shirt with an abstract (or more abstract) Boy image.

Boing Boing Offworld’s holiday greeting, from Katamari Damacy/ Noby Noby Boy creator Keita Takahashi. It inspires my upcoming New Year’s resolution: to stop being jealous of Offworld.

Honestly, I feel lucky to live in a world that has Keita Takahashi in it. We <3 Takahashi.

Keita Takahashi’s initial presentation of Noby Noby Boy, his first original game design since Katamari Damacy, presented 3D models of long, stretchy characters interacting with (and swallowing) farm animals.

The Noby Noby Boy shown at TGS is a 2D overhead-view racing game in which hitting the side walls, made of rainbow-colored stars, doesn’t seem to matter. You just drive your segmented snake-guy around in the general direction of the track as the music from Metro-Cross plays.

I’m tempted to make a blanket statement about Keita Takahashi just being weird, but I don’t think that sufficiently describes it. Showing off a spectacularly weird game is one thing; but then he scrapped it and switched it out for a completely different game design that is also weird, but in a different way.

I have absolutely no doubt that Noby Noby Boy will be brilliant. Katamari Damacy is one of the best games I’ve ever played, and it was followed by an excellent sequel about how good the first game was. The dude knows what he is doing.
