DS/3DS Release Dates & Sales // Tiny Cartridge Stickers For Your Games!

Okami art DS Lite skin (click for a larger image). I rarely like any of these cheap, custom decals as most of them are tacky, but this design on a black system looks really slick. I didn’t even notice it was a skin at first!

On the Amazon product page for this sticker, I also spotted these limited edition Okamiden Silly Bandz.

Okamiden’s launch trailer. Between all the 3DS news lately and the meh-ish impressions I’ve heard from people about this, I totally forgot Okamiden releases this week.

Perhaps the entire Okami series is doomed to this sort of inattention — an Okami release approaches, fans long to play it on a newer system with controls/features that seem more adequate, then no one buys the damn thing.

Okamiden’s U.S. and JP boxarts compared, preorder items revealed. If you reserve this DS follow-up to Okami through GameStop, you’ll receive a paintbrush stylus and screen cleaner when it releases this March 15th.

And if you already have enough branded bonuses accumulated from six years of Nintendo DS purchases, you can probably pick it up from Amazon without all that stuff and for a buck or two cheaper.

Capcom is also running a contest in which you can win Okamiden, a Nintendo 3DS (!), Chibiterasu plushies, and more when you try out its Goblin Mask Facebook app.

Okamiden’s Chibiterasu plays with a DS Lite.

Though Okamiden won’t hit the States until next March, the Okami sequel came out in Japan this week. I hope our North American commercials (if Capcom U.S.A. decides to produce any) also feature the cutest white puppy ever:

Engraved Okami/Okamiden DS Lite by Pablo Leal. Pablo created the superb Layton DS Lite featured previously, and wrote in to let us know about this one. Here’s how the unique effect is created: “I engraved the entire design and, after that, I added white paint inside the engraved holes, so the final result is a mix between a printed and a carved design.”

I’m inspired to start cuttin’ on my own DS, but I think the result would come out less “classy” and more “ruined forever.”

Okamiden’s Comic-Con trailer. Those screens look really small when squeezed into our site’s boxes, so full-screen that shiz so you can actually see what’s going on. If you’ve followed updates on the game, you won’t see anything mind-blowing in this video, but it’s a nice reminder that Chibiterasu is super cute.

And in case you haven’t heard about it yet, the other big Okami news of the day is that Amaterasu will be a playable fighter in Marvel vs. Capcom 3 (PS3, Xbox 360):

Okamiden’s Japanese special edition. Capcom has gone all-out to get a lot more money out of people who were already really interested in buying the DS Okami sequel. The (really nice) box comes with a soundtrack, a DVD with trailers, a stuffed Chibiterasu keychain, the world’s cutest earphones, and a book containing an original Okamiden story.

All this stuff sells for ¥8,000 ($91). Those who get it from e-Capcom will also get the brush stylus.

Okamiden sculpture by Somakun. This tiny rendition of Chibiterasu is incredibly cute, and I really like the painted look of the leaves on the tree! Totally impressive work.

Unfortunately, this is a one-off sculpture made for display at Anime Expo. Even more unfortunately, it’s already been sold off, so your dreams of acquiring your very own and hugging it forever are pre-dashed. If only there were something you could turn to for solace…

Okamiden brush stylus and screen cleaner. Early copies of Okamiden will ship with these neat bonuses when the game ships in Japan September 30. I’d totally replace my Hori pencil stylus with one of these.

Color-changing Okami/Okamiden cups. These cups, featuring artwork of Amaterasu and Chibiterasu, will be available from Capcom’s Japanese shop at the end of June for ¥3,150 ($34). A nice way to grow your Capcom teacup collection!

Okamiden charms. I believe these three items are the first result of Capcom Japan’s Okamiden request program, through which fans suggest items they’d like to see made.

The Chibiterasu and Kuninushi charms ship as a set, for ¥1680 (about $18), and the Amaterasu charm costs ¥840.

Buy: Okami (Wii) ($14.90)

Capcom announces Okamiden for U.S.

I’m sure this won’t surprise anyone, but Capcom finally announced that Okamiden, its DS sequel to critically acclaimed but gamer ignored PS2/Wii game Okami, is slated to release in North America.

Don’t expect to see this on store shelves until 2011! More footage and a  feature bullet list after the break:
