Castlevania soundtracks on Amazon MP3! Also, an Order of Ecclesia bag

GoNintendo posted this random Amazon deal yesterday, in which purchases of Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia include a voucher for the soundtrack through the retailer’s MP3 store. I thought that a pre-order style bonus for a game that’s been out for almost two years is weird, but I also thought the soundtrack must be available on its own if it’s being offered in this manner.

As it turns out, there are a few Castlevania albums available for download on Amazon! Including Symphony of the Night, Curse of DarknessDracula X Chronicles and even the NES Castlevania. But… not Order of Ecclesia. Still, there are a few ways you can spend those random $5 bonuses Amazon frequently offers with game purchases.

There is, however, an Order of Ecclesia bag available on Amazon. So that’s something. It’s got Shanoa on it.

Shanoa by Jian Huang (click for the large, detailed version). This is a variation of the artwork Konami debuted Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia with in 2008, showing the DS game’s heroine in mid-leap wielding a giant spear and dressed in hooker boots. This ink illustration lacks the deep blues and purples in the official art but has a “Xeroxed zine” look to it that I appreciate.

Victorian collar with ribbon, by TotusMel.

This Merino wool collar, tatted and modeled after the same accessory around Shanoa’s neck in Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia, seems like an essential piece for any cosplaying you plan on doing for the vampire-slaying heroine. Shame it’s priced at an expensive 68!

It looks pretty cool even without the ribbon:

[Thanks, Alexis!]

A mockup Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia boxart using Shizumon’s artwork. The layout is based on the original Japanese box, but I used the American logo and rating and stuff. I think it actually works pretty well! Maybe I really will print one out for my DS game case.

Order of Ecclesia comics translated →

I’m so happy that someone translated these adorable comics that Konami has been posting on the official Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia site!

They’re soooo cute (and TRUE). Stupid crab.

Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia wallpaper by “Shizumon,” the guy who does all the 4-koma comics. Compare this to the official art (which I also love) by Masaki Hirooka. I’m considering printing this out for my Order of Ecclesia case.

[Flash 9 is required to listen to audio.]

“Jaws of a Scorched Earth” (焦土の大厳) from Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia’s two-disc soundtrack.

More post-Halloween Castlevania music! We posted a sample of this song a week ago, but here’s the full track. With that extra hour we picked up today, you have more than enough time to waste listening to this three-and-a-half-minute track.

“This ain’t no Casualvania.”

Tiny Cartridge reader Hamblasto remarking on Order of Ecclesia’s sometimes overwhelming difficulty.

Is Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia too hard?

Talking with Castlevania fangirl Leigh Alexander today, I was surprised to hear that she abandoned Konami’s latest vampire-slaying installment, reaching for something less hardcore after finding Order of Ecclesia too frustrating.

My wife, also a devotee of the series, found a particular boss fight unyielding and eventually asked me to struggle through the encounter so that she could get on with the rest of the game. Even with the aid of GameFAQs, it took me too many tries than I’d like to admit before I finally walked away from the battle victorious.

Wired also noted the difficulty, describing Ecclesia as “one of the hardest 2-D Castlevanias since the NES era.” While this makes progress more satisfying for some, is the game too hard for most? Based on the short amount of time I’ve spent with the title so far, I think it is.

Konami continues to update the Japanese website for Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia, and holy wow, the wallpapers keep getting better.

I didn’t think anything would ever surpass Ayami Kojima’s gothic/alien art for Symphony of the Night, but between this piece and the Dracula/throne picture (the third one on the second row), I have a new favorite Castlevania artist. Now … I just need to know who it is. There’s a new music sample as well!

Thanks to the other new Castlevania game, I also have a new least favorite Vania artist: the Death Note guy. His Dracula is dressed like the Gene Simmons analogue from an all-rich-old-lady Kiss cover band.

Amazing wallpaper from the Japanese Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia website. Also found at the site: a new soundtrack sample, from the track “Scorched Earth of Solemnity.” It sounds very PC Engine-esque to me, while also being reminiscent of the Symphony of the Night soundtrack.

Speaking of the soundtrack, a bit of disappointing news. The Castlevania Dungeon reports that “Apparently Gamestop is giving away codes for soundtrack downloads (boo), and rumors about Gamecrazy giving away actual CDs seem to be unsubstantiated.” So there goes my plan of coveting an artifact.

[Update: some GoNintendo readers report receiving for-real CDs! So… yay, maybe?]
