If I owned one of those, I would need to further modify it by replacing the console’s startup chime with Blanka’s cheer from Street Fighter II whenever he won a match.

Tentacle DSi, a simple but cool customization for a white DSi by Dan Pickens (click for a larger image).
The artist wanted to buy a silver system but received a white handheld instead: “When I got it, it was white. How bland. I saw a canvas. So, I painted tentacles on it to mirror my love of the Eldritch Cthulhu mythos.”
Some paint rubbed off the DSi during Pickens’ deployment in Iraq, but I’m sure that’s easily fixed!

Personalizing an NES like this seems easy, but you’d be surprised by how often these paintjobs turn out awful, usually doomed from the start due to modders applying the wrong kind of paint or the artist’s incompetence. Thretris is a total pro, though, as you’ve seen from his Billtendo Killboy mod.
I have an old system that I’m hoping to one day customize like this — though I managed to keep its exterior a handsome gray for over a decade, I made the mistake of packing the NES in the trunk of my car when moving to a new apartment years ago, and when I pulled the console out a half hour later, its jaundiced plastic was unsightly. I’d love to see it return to tip-top condition.

Another custom Ninjatown DS Lite.
This unique system, presumably painted by Shawnimals head and Ninjatown creator Shawn Smith, looks completely different from the other custom Ninjatown DS that Gamestop gave away. The handheld was auctioned off at Penny Arcade’s recent Child’s Play charity dinner.
So long as we’re talking about personalized portables, we’re happy to share that ~sol-Escape updated his owl-adorned DS with a little color, butterflies, and what looks like either an incomplete quote or emo ramblings.
Kids today! With their owls and their emos and their whatnot.
