Chie, Gizmo, Judge Judy, Picard, and others as Taito sprites ⊟
Please give me a Taito game starring Beavis and Butthead, Reginald and Beartato, and No Face and Zeniba.
How awesome is this Captain Toad GIF ⊟
It’s from Paul Robertson, the GIF/pixel-master whose work we’ve extolled in Mercenary Kings, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game, and other fine titles with impressive sprite animations.
I don’t know why we don’t have a million posts about Captain Toad; it was easily the Wii U game I was most excited about at E3. It’s not slated to come out until the holiday season, but I’m contemplating putting in my preorder now.
PREORDER Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, upcoming games
And here are Urkel, Spelunky dude, Daria, Phoenix Wright, Charlie Brown, and more as Taito characters ⊟
Imagine the Simpsons, Mortal Kombat, McDonald’s, Mega Man, and Seinfeld as an old Taito game ⊟
You’d get something close to this set of adorable sprites by pixel master Paul Robertson (Mercenary Kings, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game). Robertson explains, “Bubble Bobble was the first game I ever played in the arcades and it pretty much decided what my career was going to be. So I thought I’d try out some Taito inspired characters. There’s 100 all up.” That Mayor McCheese tho.
"Heaven" by Paul Robertson
This and other awesome pet-themed pieces will be up or sale at Gallery Nucleus’ Press Paws charity art show in Los Angeles, which kicked off yesterday! This particular 18” x 32” digital print is priced at $450.
Mercenary Kings still ballin’
Still coming out sometime this year. Still has awesome sprites from Paul Robertson. Still much anticipated.
If you’re in Montreal, by the way, you can get a peek of the Metal Slug-esque PC shooter — and even play it — at IGDA’s DemoNight next Tuesday.
♫ Meow ♫ Anamanaguchi’s new single, music video
What is even going on in this video? You have Dark Moon Goths inducting Luke, a go kart race that leaves Peter decapitated, Tumblr employees working the concession stand, some awesome animation, and even a tease of Paul Robertson cats. The song is reckless, too!
You can cop the single for a buck and change at iTunes — the group’s new album, Endless Fantasy, drops this spring.

Mercenary Kings, the latest from Wizorb developer Tribute Games, featuring animations from Paul Robertson (if it’s not immediately evident from the puppy tank).
I suspect this will ship for XBLA or XBLIG, as well as PC, but it still deserves mention here because these are cool dudes, and we’re always down for whatever they’re working on. Plus, I would be totally into a sprite-based run’n gun with a weapon crafting system.
The project is still in its early prototype stage, and is expected to release some time in 2013.

Artwork by Jude Buffum, Meat Bun, and Paul Robertson, up for sale as part of Giant Robot’s "Diversions" exhibition (click for larger images). If you’ve got disposable income and decorable space, this is the spot you need to point your eyes/browsers/wallets toward.
If your lifestyle is such that you can make it to things in Los Angeles (things stubbornly continue to happen in LA even though, as I’ve explained, I don’t live there), you can check out the exhibit in person through April 4. If you can’t, but want to know what it’s like for those who can, there’s a nice writeup and gallery right here!

“Universe Party 2 - Tom Nook’s Monster Dunk Slam Jam 30XX" by Paul Robertson (click for a larger image). What an odd assortment of characters! This is definitely the only piece of art I’ve seen that had Kazuma Kiryu, Gene from God Hand, and Balrog from Cave Story in it.
It’s also the most lascivious look I’ve ever seen from Lammy, and please don’t take that as a “finding disgusting Lammy fanart” challenge.

"Irem vs Taito" by Paul Robertson (click for a much larger image). It’s pixelart pandemonium as the titans of these two Japanese video game publishers duke it out!
Hammerin’ Harry versus the Puzzle Bobble Crew! Ninja Baseball Bat Man versus Time Gal's Reika! R-Type crafts versus Darius ships! Mr. Heli versus Invaders! The only battle missing is the kusoge match-up of the millenium, Deadly Towers' Prince Myer versus Beat Takeshi.
Robertson created this image and two others — one based on Konami’s obscure arcade beat’em up Violent Storm, and another NSFW piece for Custer’s Revenge — for the Super iam8bit show. See them all here.
Perfect reminder to watch some King of Famicom.
