DS/3DS Release Dates & Sales // Tiny Cartridge Stickers For Your Games!

Pokemon “Game Dot” goods, newly available at Japanese Pokemon Centers. The Pikachu Parka is a) great and b) a collaboration between Pokemon Center and Famitsu. Also involving Famitsu:

Pikachu is riding a tiny Pokeball train, and that is what’s up. This item is being given away on Famitsu now.

“Pokémon must be kept in Poké Balls at all times” by Olly Moss. That goes for you, too, Pikachu. Get in there.

This is just an edge of a larger piece. I wonder what the rest of the artwork will look like?

Pikachu DSi Charge Stand for $14.99 →

It’s not as cute as the Slime Stand, and you can only dock DSis and DSi XLs with it (maybe there’s a way you can jerry-rig a 3DS to work with this?), but this Pikachu base is very cheap at Amazon today, available for only $14.99.

So, if you’re a fan of Pikachu, or have the urge to clutter your desk with giant plastic things, here you go!

3DS warning illustration transformed into a Pokemon battle by Aibyouka-kun (click for a larger version).

It’s a funny take on Nintendo’s original warning image, but I’m posting this because I somehow never thought of the potential to easily create faces with the 3DS’s two external cameras. I’m surprised we haven’t already seen skins, cases, or system models adding faces to 3DS places.

Hula Pikachu plush. This doll was originally only available at the Pokemon World Championships in Hawaii, and is now being sold at Pokemon Centers in Japan.

The reason I point this plush out, beyond the fact that it’s cute, is that it’s wearing a grass skirt. Pikachu wearing some kind of clothes now means that Pikachu is naked the rest of the time. It’s like when you realize that Donald Duck wears a shirt everywhere but not pants. Enjoy that thought!

Pikachu Charge Stand for DSi and DSi LL, by Hori. The electric mouse is only too happy to charge your DS. Or… or maybe he thinks you’re giving him a DS every time you put it in front of him. Depending on which version you believe, your ¥3,980 ($47) is either bringing Pikachu a sense of purpose or periodic disappointment.

“Pikachu! I Chose You” shirt design by Mare Odomo (click for a larger version). This tee, illustrated by the same bloke behind the Letters To An Absent Father series, will go on sale at upcoming Seattle-based shirt shop Lion’s Share Industries later this month.

[Update: Oops, I misspoke. As Odomo points out in the comments, while he is designing a shirt for Lion’s Share Industries, this image isn’t it!]

Buy: Pokemon HeartGold and/or SoulSilver

Pikachu store display. Why on earth would somebody be selling this on eBay? I mean, who would give up the constant presence of this four-foot-tall Pikachu? In their home? In the corner? Forever? Watching?

“Dear Dad, Who Do You Have On Your Team?” Illustrator Maré Odomo posted another new installment to his poignant Pokémon comic series Letters To An Absent Father (click for a larger version).

I wonder if Ash’s abandonment issues are responsible for his refusal to pick another favorite Pokémon, or build a team of the strongest monsters he can find instead of one with the creatures he’s most partial to.

Perhaps having his father leave him at such a young age is what’s held him back from becoming a truly great Pokémon trainer and actually winning a Pokémon League competition for a change?

It’s something to think about.

Pokemon Game Boy Micro. This handsome system was sold at Pokemon Centers in Japan in 2005. It features a Pikachu outline on the faceplate, which kind of leads me to wonder about the handheld’s red and black color scheme (which looks nice regardless of questionable Pikachu tied-in-ness).

If you want a limited edition system that is both Pikachu-themed and Pikachu-colored, this DS Lite is the best example of that.

“Gonna Catch Em All” by Randis Albion. The tiny scratches on the jar stab at my heart. I don’t think I’ve felt this much sorrow for a video game character since Kenny Velez’s Yoshi/betrayal painting.

I suppose this was the old school way of catching Pokemans. Oh sure, we pretend as if we’re civil now, telling ourselves that converting their bodies into energy and storing them in Poké Balls is a much more humane method of enslaving stashing the creatures, but just how painless do you think that process is?

Who’s to say that when you hear your Psyduck quack out his name as the Poké Ball sucks him up, he isn’t actually crying out in agony as his dematerializing feathers and bones are ripped from his fluffy frame? Think about it.
