Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire and Alpha/Omega compared ⊟
I love seeing how Game Freak updates its 2D worlds into 3D scenes for its remakes, adding so much more detail and flair without losing the design of the original. Props to @RogersBase for the comparison shots!
"The Poké Life", 1996 ⊟
Is there anything more handheld gaming than sitting in the back of a car, playing Pokémon during a road trip, leaving a backpack open by your feet and filled with distractions for the long drive, and bringing a pillow to nap on once you’ve exhausted your entertainment options?
These nostalgic illustrations come from Matt Rockefeller’s upcoming Pokémon zine, which will be featured at Light Grey Art Lab’s STACKS show in Minneapolis (opening August 1st). He will post full versions of the pieces shown here on his Tumblr next month.
Get out of my dreams, get into my Fennecar ⊟
Toyopet vehicles shown by Toyota at the Tokyo Toy Show. Really cute, though I don’t know how effective Pikachu’s lil’ snout is as a bumper.
Have some cosplaying Pikachus ⊟
What is happening in this Pokemon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire artwork? How did we get to a point where Pikachu is dressed as a demure high society lady and a luchador?
This new trailer… doesn’t explain it at all, but does show footage of a trainer petting all these cosplaying Chus in Pokemon-Amie. Plus there’s stuff about the Elite Four, gym leaders, Mega Metagross, Secret Bases, etc., all less important than a Pikachu with big fake eyebrows.
Super-Secret Bases return for Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire ⊟
When the latest Pokemon remake releases this November 21, you’ll be able to create and decorate a Secret Base, share it with others using QR codes, and set rules for what kind of battles other trainers can have there, making it like your own gym.
"When you visit another player’s Secret Base, that base’s members will be hanging out there. You can talk to them or even battle them! If you find base owners that you like, you can scout them as one of your Secret Pals and bring them back to your own Secret Base. Once you’ve become Secret Pals with someone, you can continue to have Pokémon battles against them, and also have your Pal use “special skills” to support you on your adventure.
Another fun aspect of Super-Secret Bases is a capture-the-flag activity. Examine the flag beside the Secret PC in another player’s Secret Base to obtain it! You can take one flag per day from each base visited. Visit lots of Secret Bases and collect lots of flags to improve your team’s rank and get rewards, including increasing the skills of your Secret Pals. Flag colors will change based on a team’s rank, so you can tell another team’s rank at a glance—and others can tell yours!”
Attack on Titan x Pokemon x nope nope peace out ⊟
These frightening mash-ups come from Beth Emery/Zsparky, who has a gallery you can check out at DeviantArt. That Cubone and Colossal Titan mix is rad, but that Smiling Bulbasaur and its teeth are terrifying.
Along with making comics that break my heart, Tiffany works on Steven Universe, which is amazing and coming back soon and I wish there was a non-shady link to the full “Tiger Millionaire” episode I could share with you. You can follow Tiffany’s Tumblr here.
Save $100 on limited edition Gold/Xerneas 3DS XL ⊟
This beautiful import system, originally sold exclusively through Japan’s Pokemon Center locations, is available for just $199.99 at Play-Asia right now — a steep discount from its typical $299.99 tag. That’s not too much more than what you would pay for an XL you’d buy locally!
It’s available with both Pokemon X and Y bundles at that price for a limited time. S/O to NintendoTweet for spotting. If you’d rather import a system that can play U.S. games, don’t forget that Play-Asia is also selling this Mario White 3DS XL right now.

These tributes to buggy (as opposed to Bug-type) Pokemon are from Glitch PokéZine, which still needs your donations before it can go to print and jump onto BigCartel’s with a reduced price.
The three pieces above come from Natali Martinez, Jimmy Giegerich, and Jake Lawrence. Glitch PokéZine will feature 68 pieces from 68 artists, including other Tiny friends like Ashley Davis and Daniel Bressette.
Meet Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire's new Mega Pokemon ⊟
Let’s learn about the new Mega Evolution versions of the Ruby/Sapphire starters, from the Pokemon Company:
- Mega Sceptile gains the Dragon type through Mega Evolution, making its Dragon-type moves more powerful. It also gains the Lightning Rod Ability, which absorbs the damage from Electric-type moves to raise its own Special Attack.
- Through Mega Evolution, Mega Swampert gains an improved Attack stat which makes it even more formidable when using the Fighting-type move Hammer Arm. Additionally, Mega Swampert gains the Swift Swim Ability, which doubles its Speed when the weather is rainy.
- Mega Blaziken, first discovered in Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, gains some new tools through Mega Evolution, in addition to its increased Attack. It has the Speed Boost Ability, making it faster with each passing turn, making the incredibly powerful Flying-type move Brave Bird, extremely rare for a non-Flying-type Pokémon like Blaziken to have, even fiercer in Pokémon battles.
Mega Diancie also makes an appearance! In addition, players will now meet Mega Steven – oh wait, no, just Steven. He’s a guy who helps you learn about Mega Evolution.
Mega Sableye and his giant rupee ⊟
Look at this Ghost/Dark-type cutie!:
"Mega Sableye has concentrated all of the energy from Mega Evolution into the jewel which adorns its chest. Once Sableye has Mega-Evolved, this jewel will swell and become detached from its body.
Mega Sableye uses the jewel as a powerful defensive tool in battle. From behind the shelter of the jewel, it can readily exploit the opponent’s weaknesses and take advantage of any openings. It is said that the jewel hardens into such strength that no attack can even make a scratch!”
Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire releasing November 21 ⊟
We didn’t see much stuff announced for the 3DS during Nintendo’s E3 Digital Event today, but we did get an exact release date for the next Pokemons in North America and Japan (Europe gets it on November 28).
