Junji Ito x Pokemon ⊟
Pokemon’s about to get real, real creepy, y’all— creepier than even Creepy Black. The Pokemon Company has collaborated with horror manga artist Junji Ito, who you may know from That One Comic About People Obsessed with People-Shaped Holes in a Mountain and every other unsettling Japanese comic you’ve seen online. The collaboration is called “Kowapoke,” or “Scarypoke.”
The Pokemon Company released one preview image in the form of a phone wallpaper, above, featuring the world’s most menacing Banette. They’re also giving t-shirts out in Japan featuring the image, for people who need more personal space, I guess.
Game Freak told us they were freaky.
Pokemon ORAS demo out on October 21 in North America ⊟
Warning: to get the “Special Demo Version” and battle Sceptile, Blaziken, and Swampert, you have to go to Pokemon.com and set up a Trainer Club Account by October 19, then get a code out of the newsletter. I know. There’ll be “other methods” but those haven’t been announced yet, and so far do not include just downloading it from the eShop like a normal person.
Other news: more Mega Pokes! Latios, Latias, Pidgeot, and Beedrill! New trailer (above!)
More beautiful Poké-life and Game Boy scenes ⊟
We posted cropped samples of these pieces from Matt Rockefeller before, but here are the full versions from his The Poké Life zine. While I don’t see anywhere you can buy the zine online, he’s selling prints for the individual scenes at various sizes (as cheap as $15 for an 8x10).

Pikachu and other “Precious Friends” for your iPhone 6 ⊟
Adorn your new phone with some Pokemon designs, including a really great Pikachu “My Precious Friend” design that works just as well to describe your phone as it does for your chu.
Mega Rayquaza - Only Built for Omega/Alpha Linx ⊟
I’m not gonna front and act like I’ve been down since day-one with Rayquaza, since I missed out on the third generation of Pokémon. If Rayquaza is your boy, though, you’ll be happy to hear that the Emerald mascot has come up in a big way. Got its own mega evolution and everything now.
Not to be confused with Mega Raekwon (the Wu-type Pokémon), Mega Raqyquaza has a Delta Stream Ability that you can see showcased in this video. It also has a Dragon Ascent move that sends the creature into the sky, where it just shines on opponents from above like, “You ain’t even on my level. Why am I down here fighting you.”
Pokemon Trading Card Game launches on iPad today ⊟
It’s already out around the world, but the iPad app version of Pokemon Trading Card Game will show up on the App Store in the US today. It’s free, and comes with a bunch of cards to get started with.
Of course, you’ll be able to buy cards in-game, but (this is cool) you can also unlock cards in the app with codes you get from buying real decks. Good idea!
Glitch PokéZine now available to preorder ⊟
This latest PokéZine, which features 68 illustrations of glitchy Pokémon from as many artists, ships in October and is available to preorder for $20.
As with the previous Ghost and Ice editions, the zine is curated and designed by Jordan Rosenberg and Iasmin Omar Ata. The other participating artists include familiar names like Jane Mai, Jake Lawrence, Mayuiki, and many others. This is good stuff; get on this. Buy an extra copy for me too.
Transparent Nintendo 2DSes for Europe ⊟
Remember that prototype 3DS XL with transparent casing that Nintendo teased us with in an Iwata Asks session? That never actually released as an actual product, but the platform holder has made something similar with the 2DS for Europe, creating clear Red and Blue versions of the budget handheld.
Nintendo used to make a lot of these transparent systems for the Game Boy, GB Pocket, and GBA, but it’s been a while since the company has returned to this style (the New 3DS also has clear colored cover plate options). These 2DSes will release as standalone units in Europe on November 7, and as bundles with pre-installed copies of Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire on November 28. Thanks to NintenDaan for the pics!
One of the best Smash images is now a shirt ⊟
You can get one of the most compelling Smash Bros. scenes — Mega Man standing on top of a Gogoat as he prepares to swing a Home-run Bat — as a tee, hoodie, sticker, smartphone case, etc. This is all thanks to Sam Smith, who took the original screenshot, created a pixelart version, and uploaded the design to Redbubble.
New Pokemon 3DSes, covers up for preorder ⊟
These limited edition Pokemon 3DSes, which will be hawked exclusively through Japan’s Pokemon Centers, aren’t going to up for sale long, so you’re going to want to preorder one pronto. They’re $336.99 each at Play Asia, but take note that they’re the New 3DSes that come with suede cover plates and custom Home menu themes. You can get either the White one with Kyogre or the Black system with Groudon.
And while the non-limited-edition New 3DS systems aren’t up for preorder anymore, you can reserve one of the 38 different cover plates for the system. They’re priced at $19.99 each, which is more than I expected, but I’m probably going to buy one anyway as soon as I somehow manage to pick a favorite. New 3DS charger stands (available in Black, White, Mint, and Pink) are available to preorder too. Thanks to NintendoTweet for the links!

Limited Edition New 3DSes for Pokémon ORAS ⊟
While North America and Europe received a new trailer and details about an upcoming 3DS eShop demo for Pokémon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire, Japan enjoyed an announcement for these special edition handhelds.
Starting November 21, Japan’s Pokémon Centers will carry a limited quantity of these New 3DSes with the Kyogre and Groudon custom plates — if Google Translate is correct, they have a suede texture to them, which is baller AF. While they will include custom Home menu themes, they will not have pre-installed copies of the games. They’re priced at ¥19,000, or around $177.
You can watch the Pokémon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire trailer and read details about the upcoming demo after the break:
