Pokemon XY, ACNL's stages in Smash 3DS ⊟
Neat, it’s Lumiose City! Hopefully this is the post-patch version. I’m not sure if this is a 3DS-exclusive stage for the new Smash Bros., but the game’s director Masahiro Sakurai did provide this comment on the level: “The Prism Tower rises above Lumiose City. Up until a few seconds ago, the fighters were brawling on top of that tower.”
This Animal Crossing: New Leaf stage, though, is 3DS-only (the Wii U version has City Folk's Smashville). Sakurai offered these details on Tortimer Island: “On this stage, fighters are randomly placed on a different island layout every time they visit.” Hopefully they cleared all the wharf roaches.
Rumor: Get Pokemon XY free when you register a 3DS and game with Club Nintendo next month ⊟
No need to murder your parents, kids — despite the promises of the disembodied fish in this comic from Jeremy Kaye (Up and Out / Patreon). It looks like Club Nintendo US has a fun promotion coming up, according to a convincing Toys R Us advertisement posted at Go Nintendo.
The way the purported promotion works, you can get a free digital copy of Pokemon X or Y when you register a 3DS/2DS/XL on Club Nintendo some time in March along with one of six first-party games:
- Animal Crossing: New Leaf
- Yoshi’s New Island
- Lego City: Undercover
- Super Mario 3D Land
- Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D
- Mario Kart 7
Yay, so all you moms and dads out there can sleep easy… For now.
Meet the new Pokemon Diancie ⊟
The Pokemon Company has now officially revealed Diancie, the new “Mythical Pokemon” that will be given away… somehow.
“Known to boast the greatest beauty in all the world, Diancie’s body glitters pink, captivating the hearts of many,” according to a press release. It’s pretty beautiful for a rock in a dress, I guess?
Obviously, by the way, Diancie is Rock/Fairy type. Since it’s basically half fairy and half rock.
Pokémon Bank now open in North America ⊟
It’s finally here! Just to recap, Pokémon Bank is an eShop app/cloud storage service (with an annual fee) with which you can deposit and withdraw your XY creatures online. It has a companion Poké Transporter app that enables you to upload Pokémon from BW and BW2, so you can import them to XY.
You’ll be able to take advantage of a 30-day free trial before March 14 (same goes for Europe). And you can also get a free Celebi if you sign on before September 30! Image via Bebe.956.
Pokemon XY's implied transgender trainer ⊟
The English translation here isn’t as suggestive as her Japanese text, which reads, “I was a Karate King just half a year ago; the power of medical science is awesome, wouldn’t you say?” Note that “Karate Kings”, or “Black Belts” as they’re known in the West, are a male-specific character type in the Pokemon series, their female counterparts going by “Battle Girls.”
Hurray for more diversity in Nintendo games! We have a podcast episode coming up that talks about this trainer and Japan’s approach to queer characters — please look forward to it! (Or ignore it if these conversations grind your gears. Whatever makes you happy!)
Pokemon x(y) Persona ⊟
If Nintendo made Fire Emblem x Shin Megami Tensei happen, they could find a way to turn this into a real thing. It’s no weirder than the Pokemon Conquest crossover with Nobunaga’s Ambition! The mock-up is from Hilda, via Hatsuu.
Pokemon Bank vid⊟
Just under the wire! You can stash your Pokemon in Nintendo’s paid service starting Dec. 27. Whoops! We knew the date. In my haste, I failed to notice that. Sorry everybody! Enjoy the video! I’ll be drowning in shame.
Players who download Pokémon Bank and its linked application, Poké Transporter, between December 27, 2013 and January 31, 2014 will receive a complimentary trial pass within the application, which will let them experience Pokémon Bank and Poké Transporter at no charge for 30 days. After this time period, the Pokémon Bank service will cost $4.99 per year.
I guess it’s Pokemon news day!
Pokemon XY patch fixes online battle cheating ⊟
Yay, you’ll no longer cry about losing online matches in Pokemon XY due to opponents using the Battle Analyzer tool. Haven’t heard about Battle Analyzer? Well, we kind of avoided giving it mentioning the tool here until Nintendo fixed it, but it’s a program that allowed players to scout their opponent’s party and see what attacks they’ve chosen before picking their own moves.
It’s a serious enough issue that Nintendo suspended ranked battles for a while, and released this 1.2 patch just a couple weeks later. This update also fixes bugs with Pokemon not learning new moves after evolving through Wonder Trade, and with Trainer PR Videos not unlocking in Lumiose City.
You can grab the patch now on the eShop. Shout outs to Rachel for the pics!
Pokemon X/Y 2DS bundles for the US ⊟
Good news: they’re $149!
Bad news: the red 2DS/Pokemon X bundle is a Target exclusive, and the blue 2DS/Pokemon Y bundle is a Toys R Us exclusive.
Both will be in stores December 6. If you’re shopping for a kid who wants to play Pokemon, this is the cheapest way to do it that doesn’t involve pretending you don’t understand the difference between a 3DS and a Game Boy.

So much Pokemon music on iTunes ⊟
The Pokemon X & Pokemon Y Super Music Collection is the first official Pokemon soundtrack release on US iTunes. It’s also:
TWO HUNDRED TWELVE TRACKS for ten damn dollars.
That includes all the music from X and Y, of course, along with battle music from the Pokemon Origins anime and five tracks from Red and Blue!
I should note, this has all the PR Video music tracks – you know, in case you’re putting your real life PR Video together (You should do that and send it to us). The Pokemon Company plans to release soundtracks for the other main Pokemon games next year.
