Let’s meet your Pokemon X and Y friends

Nintendo posted a lot of new info about Pokemon X and Y this morning, including details on the first Gym Leader you’ll fight from the new Kalos region, Viola, from Santalune City (known for its large fountain and park benches).

Players will learn about Viola by first meeting her older sister, Alexa, a journalist working for a publishing house in Lumiose City. Alexa insists that her sister will be happy to meet players visiting Santalune City.

A professional photographer who specializes in Pokémon photography, Viola presides over the Santalune City Gym, whose interior is constructed from threads like spiderwebs, strung together tightly above the darkness. Players will need to find a safe path through these threads, and will receive useful advice from Viola when they battle her.

You can see Viola, a new trailer, and more details about the game after the break:

New Pokémon and details from X/Y
You can see four new Pokémon in this purported CoroCoro scan for the upcoming 3DS game — the ridable Grass-type Gogoat, the Electric-type lizard thing, the Normal/Flying-type bird Yayakoma, and the Fighting-type panda Yanchamu.
Serebii also notes that the game is set in the Karos region (in a location seemingly based on France), and has trainer customization features for hair and skin color.

A new Mewtwo form for Pokémon X and Y?

I have no idea what the deal here is — I just stopped at my computer to check my email before I made some BLTs, and I saw that this new Pokémon X and Y video dropped with this teaser.

Serebii says “this Pokémon and Mewtwo’s original self are to appear in a new trailer for [upcoming film] Extremespeed Genesect: Mewtwo Awakens on April 18th, with the secrets to unlocking the mystery within.” Credit to Vlabatsky for the GIFs.

While the release list for this year still has a lot of holes, 2013 is already looking so good for 3DS.

Fennekins Forever

Has the Pokemon series found its new Pikachu? Let’s wait until we see if it’s a fire/fighting-type Pokemon — and if people decide to continue supporting the X/Y starter if that’s the case — before making any declarations.

The artists behind these pieces, in order of appearance

We have already posted like a million Fennekin pics, and it’s only been a week since we were introduced to the starter. Maybe it’s time to cut back on these…

No one wants a fire/fighting Fennekin

Before you freak out, no, that last image isn’t legit. It’s one of a dozen images I found from people who are convinced that a fire/fighting-type Fennekin would ruin their lives.

For the sake of this guy’s 3DS, I’m hoping it’s not a fire/fighting starter, too.

Fave Fennekins

I am astonished by the amount of fanart people have already produced for Pokemon X and Y’s starters — this is just a flicker from the wildfire of Fennekin illustrations out there threatening to engulf the entire internet. Their artists in order of appearance:

One of these is not like the others (hint: it’s the most amazing one).

Pokémon X/Y’s new starters and 3D world

Farewell, 2D Pokémon sprites. Announced for 3DS this morning, Pokémon X and Y will be the first fully 3D entry for the series, as well as the first one to receive a simultaneous worldwide release (October 2013).

You can watch the full trailer for more clips of the 3D world, starter creature attacks, and a peek at sixth generation legendaries here.

Pokémon X and Y hit 3DS this October

The mainline Pokémon series will make its debut on 3DS with three new starter creatures (Fennekin, Froakie, and Chespin), as well as new but unspecified features meant to take advantage of the system’s capabilities. This trailer also mentions that “the more you battle together [with your Pokémon], the stronger your bond will become.”
