Twitch Plays Pokemon by OMOCAT ⊟
You would think we’d have posted about Twitch Plays Pokemon by now, the madness that’s engrossed hundreds of thousands of people, all prostrated to the almighty Helix Fossil.
I tried watching it for 20 minutes, during which I just saw Red unable to navigate his way out of a Pokemon Center, repeatedly accessing a PC until he released CCC the Hitmonlee.
After all that despair, I decided to cheer myself up by going back to playing Dangonronpa.

Meet the new Pokemon Diancie ⊟

The Pokemon Company has now officially revealed Diancie, the new “Mythical Pokemon” that will be given away… somehow.

Known to boast the greatest beauty in all the world, Diancie’s body glitters pink, captivating the hearts of many,” according to a press release. It’s pretty beautiful for a rock in a dress, I guess?

Obviously, by the way, Diancie is Rock/Fairy type. Since it’s basically half fairy and half rock.

"Is Gengar Clefable’s shadow?" ⊟
Also, are they secretly characters from Street Fighter Alpha 2? This neat — if slightly out-of-sync — GIF comes from ChipSprites, who was inspired by the theory that Gengar is the shadow of Clefable. I’m told XY's introduction of the Fairy-type (Clefable's type) disproves one key argument for this theory, as it now allows them to damage each other, when previously they couldn't with STAB moves due to immunities.

So is this how you use Pokémon Bank? ⊟
You just put any animal into a box, and it gets uploaded to a cloud, right? And then decades from now your grandkids will be able to download the creature and play with it? Online features on the 3DS are always so peculiar..
This lovely shot comes from Jessica Lynn Hanusewicz — you can follow her photo journal on Tumblr here.

Pokemon Bank online in Europe and Australia ⊟
For everyone who asks “what about Europe” when we post a new game release, here you go. Pokemon Bank is now online in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand, officially marking the end of the eShop-destroying Pokemon Financial Crisis in those territories. Japan and Asia have had the service for a while, and we Slowkings in North America are still waiting.
According to Celebi, the free 30-day trial period is “redeemable until March 14th 2014.” Get on that! But… don’t destroy the eShop again!

Nintendo picked the wrong blue Pokémon for Super Smash Bros. ⊟

Lucario, I’m real happy for you, but Greninja was one of the best Pokémon starter evolutions of all time (shout-outs to Froakie / I see you, Frogadier).

Here’s what Super Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai had to say about the newly announced playable fighter:

"The heroic Aura Pokémon, Lucario, joins the battle!! We’ve increased the influence of Aura this time, so a damaged Lucario is truly a force to be reckoned with.

Lucario joined the battle for the first time in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, which was released six years ago. The production staff of Brawl worked really hard to expand the character roster—without their efforts, Lucario probably never would have joined the battle.”

We poked Greninja in Pokémon Amie for his reaction to the snub, but he responded "No comment."

Wow, these are nice Pokemon gym badges ⊟

Pick these up from ChinookCrafts when you absolutely must convince strangers that you are a for real Pokemon master. Like I am. You know how people in elementary school used to claim that they had an uncle who worked for Nintendo and they had access to all kinds of unreleased games?

Well, my uncle is a Slowbro and he lets me go visit in the Pokemon world all the time. So last time I was there I captured some ‘mons and took out all the gym leaders. I have the badges to prove it.

TinyCast 20! Some very serious topics in this latest podcast episode: Pokemon XY's implied transgender trainer, Bravely Default's unacceptable “censorship,” and … anime soccer. If social justice convos (or people pushing books for you to read) get you grumpy, maybe skip this one?

Pokemon XY's implied transgender trainer ⊟

The English translation here isn’t as suggestive as her Japanese text, which reads, “I was a Karate King just half a year ago; the power of medical science is awesome, wouldn’t you say?” Note that “Karate Kings”, or “Black Belts” as they’re known in the West, are a male-specific character type in the Pokemon series, their female counterparts going by “Battle Girls.”

Hurray for more diversity in Nintendo games! We have a podcast episode coming up that talks about this trainer and Japan’s approach to queer characters — please look forward to it! (Or ignore it if these conversations grind your gears. Whatever makes you happy!)

Related: Pokemon X is just $34 on Amazon right now. Credit to Legends of Localization for the Japanese translation (via TC reader TomSkylark).

Pokemon x(y) Persona ⊟
If Nintendo made Fire Emblem x Shin Megami Tensei happen, they could find a way to turn this into a real thing. It’s no weirder than the Pokemon Conquest crossover with Nobunaga’s Ambition! The mock-up is from Hilda, via Hatsuu.

On one hand, origami paper with Pokemon faces printed on it is kinda cheating. On the other hand, cute! This set is available at J-List for $3.50.

eShop down worldwide during Pokemon Financial Crisis ⊟

The Japanese launch of Pokemon Bank, combined with about a billion new NNID activations worldwide from people who got 3DSes and Wii Us over Xmas, have waylaid the poor eShop. I have some extra time to deliberate over what to do with this gift card, I guess!

The network outage is temporary, but Pokemon Bank has been taken off the eShop in Japan, and its release date in North America and Europe has been moved from tomorrow to “TBD.” The free trial will resume when the software is available.

Don’t worry too much about this crisis. We’ll bail out the Pokemon Bank somehow, because it’s too big to fail.
