I’ve been cranking to finish Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask all week, finally wrapping it up last night at about 12:30 am. Then I got the Joystiq review done in the morning, so it could be edited and posted in the early afternoon.

All this is my roundabout way of saying: it would be cool if someone read this.

I really like Professor Layton games! Even when I’m marathoning them for review, they’re so chill. Now I just sit back and wait for people to finish the game so we can [REDACTED EMOTIONAL RESPONSE] about the ending together.

Professor Layton hits the books to solve a mystery, as Luke delivers a cup of tea. I like how Layton just has his head cocked in his comically oversized hat, wondering, “Damn, how did all these butterflies get up in this piece?”

Dianna Agron returns for another 3DS commercial to hawk Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask, and to remind us she’s not a gamer — she just crush a lot. Once again, Tumblr is ablaze with GIFs of Ms. Quinn Fabray’s latest work.

I know plenty of dudes are salty over this “not a gamer” campaign Nintendo’s running, but I ain’t even mad about it. It reminds me too much of this freestyle battle.

Nintendo Direct highlights»

There were a few surprising newses in this morning’s Japanese Nintendo Direct presentation, including the surprise that Satoru Iwata was outside today instead of in the Nintendo offices! Or he was in the part of the Nintendo building where the green screens are kept. I don’t know. Anyway! News!

Professor Layton’s “final” adventure is coming out on 3DS in Japan next year! Professor Layton and the Legacy of Super Civilization A, as I’ve seen it translated (on Kotaku) starts with a letter inviting Layton and Luke to investigate the discovery of a living mummy! Gasp! Puzzles!
There’s a Pink/White 3DS LL, coming to Japan on 9/27. Man, that’s early to be releasing new colors.
Rhythm Hunter HarmoKnight is a new eShop rhythm game from Pokemon developer Game Freak! It’s a NON-POKEMON game from Game Freak, in 2012! You jump and attack to the beat of music. It’s due in Japan September 5.
Denpa Ningen 2 is on the way to eShop from Genius Sonority. Denpa Ningen is the eShop RPG about finding cute little dudes in your real-life environment via AR, then training them to battle.
There’s a special Culdcept 3DS LL/XL, for the winner of a tournament.
ANOTHER Bravely Default demo is coming out in Japan, the last one. You can import your data into the game when it comes out October 11.

English trailer for Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask, finally coming to 3DSes in the U.S. this November, over a year and a half after launching with the system in Japan.

It seems like we’re finally catching up with the series’ releases in Japan — with any luck, there might only be a short delay between Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney release in Japan and North America. Maybe. Probably not.

Layton and the Last Specter site opens, with demos and more stuff»

I’ve been looking around the Professor Layton and the Last Specter site, trying to find the hidden wallpapers, videos, and other content, but all I’ve found are a couple of streaming songs that I can’t really put in this post.

Anyway, even if I did get all the hidden junk, the real attraction to the site are the demo puzzles, which I can’t embed here. So, uh, go ahead and click over and stuff.

I think the wallpapers and trailers at GoNintendo were pulled from the scavenger-hunt content on the website. Above, a trailer in which Emmy (“Remi” in Japan) is a dangerously terrible driver.
