Tiny Cartridge

First Professor Layton vs Ace Attorney screenshots. The new characters accompanying the professor, Phoenix, Luke, and Maya, are Mahoney, the blond girl accused of being a witch; and Jeeken, the ginger prosecutor/knight.

This Level-5/Capcom 3DS collab, which has only been announced for Japan so far, introduces a “Mob Judgment” system in which ”Phoenix goes up against a crowd of witnesses” and “witnesses may talk amongst themselves during a cross-examination”.

My copy of Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney (click for a larger version), imported from Europe — all the big video games release there early now, even Nintendo 3DS titles!
Like everything else we post here, this is all a lie. The photo and boxart mock-up comes from Layton/Wright fangirl Fong Chin. You can see the full cover on this page.
In other 3DS news, Nintendo is holding a special three-day public event in Tokyo to show the upcoming handheld and its games next month!  Some of the titles that will be available to play include: The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time 3D, Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition, Resident Evil Revelations, Kid Icarus, Pilot Wings Resort, Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask, and more.
Many titles will appear only as videos or samples, like Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater 3D: The Naked Sample, Resident Evil Mercenaries 3D, Star Fox 3D, Paper Mario, Animal Crossing, Xevious, Mario Kart, and others.
So, we’ll probably hear game impressions when that January 8-10 expo takes place. Don’t forget there’s also a press-only event in New York City on January 19, too!

“Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney Meet Halfway” by Kae. The artist does a better job of capturing the Layton art style than Ace Attorney, in my opinion, but does an even better job of reminding me that Level-5 and Capcom are really doing this, which still seems really improbable.

Five Level-5 3DS Trailers: Subbed Layton Vs. Phoenix Wright, Fantasy Life, & More

Much like Puff Daddy, we can’t stop, won’t stop, and possibly don’t even know how to stop posting Level-5 junk. It’s a sickness for which there is no cure.

After the break, you’ll find new trailers for Fantasy Life, Time Travelers, Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracle, and Cabaret Girls. We’ve also posted the Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright video for the third time, but this one has subtitles!

Professor Layton vs. Gyakuten Saiban fanart. I figured the only people more excited about this 3DS collaboration than me our readers would be Pixiv inhabitants, and it seems I was right. Detailed artwork combining the two series and their dapper, pointing men is already starting to appear… and here is some. Most of it just puts characters together in the image, but I appreciate the one guy who made a Layton/Phoenix amalgam.

Direct-feed trailer for Professor Layton Vs. Ace Attorney. One more Level-5 post before we end the day, this time a much longer and higher quality video for this surprise Nintendo 3DS game revealed last night. In this clip, you’ll see the Professor accuse a young girl of practicing witchcraft, but then Mr. Wright steps in to defend her.

Some of you went nuts over this game’s announcement. Check out some notes our readers left:

  • “MY LIFE IS NOT COMPLETE WITHOUT PLAYING THIS GAME.”
  • “MY WILDEST DREAMS NOW MANIFEST”
  • “Oh. My. God. I-I think…tear of joy just rolled down my face just now.”
  • “shaking and crying”

Capcom-Unity wants you to post that excitement in its comments, implying that your feedback could help the game receive a North American release. I’m pretty sure it’s going to release here anyway, but it couldn’t hurt?

Artwork/logo from the Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright crossover game for Nintendo 3DS.

Everything shown so far looks like it’s from the anime trailer and not the actual gameplay sections, but this all sounds very promising! It’s like the video game equivalent of Tupac and Biggie joining forces, going back in time to defend people in Witch Trials, then recording a hit single called “2 Of Salemz Most Wanted”. Yeah, that’s exactly what it is.

Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright crossover announced for Nintendo 3DS! You crazy for this one, Level-5/Capcom.

There’s very few details on this so far, but we do know it’s a “combination of puzzles and crime mystery” that has the two characters working together, and that Ace Attorney creator Takumi Shu will be writing the scenario.

During the game’s reveal at last night’s Level-5 “Next Dimension” press conference, Shu mentioned “Majo Saiban”, or “Witch Trial”, as the theme.
