Two minutes of video game characters just messing up each other’s faces in Project X Zone

It’s everything you’d expect and want from a trailer for a massive crossover game — ridiculous special attacks, team combos, and arbitrary HP numbers hopping off characters like passengers jumping from a sinking ship.

U.S. trailer for the Capcom x Namco x Sega crossover

Project X Zone is due June 25 in the US and July 5 in Europe. In addition, we now know that the $39.99 game will be sold as a limited edition package that includes a mini-art book, poster, and music CD. Nice!

North America will be a Project X Zone

Project X Zone, the tactical RPG featuring a massive crossover cast of characters from Sega, Capcom, and Namco Bandai franchises, will make it to the West this summer!

Wow, I didn’t expect that at all! At least we’ll be getting some new Mega Man on the 3DS in some form, if not on Legends 3. This will hit North America, Europe, and Australasia with its Japanese voices intact, though apparently publisher Namco Bandai will forego localizing the audio, saving some money with that decision.

Project X Zone wallpaper is loaded with characters. Perhaps overloaded. This is an irresponsible number of crossover game characters to put on someone’s desktop. If you download it, you run a risk of having some of your icons camouflaged out of existence.
In other PXZ news, here’s that trailer Namco told us was coming. It is ten damn minutes long.

Project X Zone boxart. I’m about to make two fanbases super sad at the same time: this might be the last time you see either Mega Man or Ulala on a retail game box…
Namco also announced the release date … for a new trailer: July 2 at 11am. Great?

While there’s doubt that Project X Zone will make it to the West, most of what I’m interested about in this Super Robot Wars-style mash-up between Sega, Namco Bandai, and Capcom is in this video anyway: lots of familiar characters pulling of ridiculous combos on dudes.

First look at Project X Zone, the crossover 3DS joint from Sega, Capcom, and Namco Bandai releasing in Japan later this year. The strategy RPG features characters from a variety of the companies’ franchises, including Mega Man, Space Channel 5, Tekken, Darkstalkers, Devil May Cry, Valkyria Chronicles, Street Fighter, etc.

Of course, the immediate comparison one probably makes after seeing/hearing all this is PS2’s Namco × Capcom mash-up, which never released outside of Japan. With all these characters, this game looks like something out of Card Sagas Wars, but I’m guessing the gameplay here is more along the lines of Super Robot Wars, a franchise that will also make an appearance in the game.
