New Pushmo for Wii U ⊟

[Update: Pushmo World coming to the U.S. (and European!) eShop for $9.99 on June 19! Nintendo will promote the game’s launch by discounting Pushmo ($4.69) and Crashmo ($5.99) on the 3DS eShop from May 28 to June 13.]

Hiku-Osu World (Pushmo World) comes out in Japan June 19 for 1,000 yen. Get pumped for HD Mallo! And, you know, a sequel to one of the most clever puzzle series on the 3DS, all about pulling and pushing 3D blocks to make spaces to climb. Like the 3DS versions, this has a level editor and QR code generation! It also features World Pushmo Fair, an in-game hub that integrates with Miiverse while allowing you to share and download puzzles.

Oh, HD Mallo isn’t real enough for you? How about a Mallo phone charm, pass case, or doll? Because those are coming out too.

You can find plenty of worthwhile 3DS discounts this week, like these first-party deals:
Dillon’s Rolling Western- $6.99, save $3
Fluidity: Spin Cycle - $7.99, save $3
Pushmo - $4.99, save $2
Tokyo Crash Mobs - $4.99, save $1
3D Classics: Kirby’s Adventure - $4.99, save $2
Shin’en has also cut prices for its eShop games:
Art of Balance: Touch - $4.99, save $2
Fun! Fun! Minigolf Touch! - $3.49, save $1.50
Nano Assault EX - $9.99, save $5
All of those discounts end on May 9 — don’t forget that the Guild01 sales are still running, and that ATV Wild Ride 3D will sell for $5.99 until tomorrow. It’s been hard to complain about the eShop lately, as we’ve seen the number of quality releases — as well as the frequency of deals — pick up.

I feel like we haven’t talked about Crashmo enough, and that its eShop release late last year went mostly ignored, so let’s try to make up for that with some fun puzzles.

Some of these are so silly, like “What compelled you to make a puzzle out of that?” (see: Adventure Time DS/3DS’s secret screen). I remember some of the Pushmo puzzles people came up with were like that, and I worry that people are missing out on that experience with Crashmo, even though it’s just as great.

If you’re looking for a fun game to put on your 3DS during the January droughtCrashmo is a good place to start. If you’re looking for more user-made Crashmo stages to play, these two sites are good places to start.

I love that Crashmo's menu icon completes Mallo's sumo stomp — it's just like how the first four Professor Layton game icons show Hershel solving a puzzle!

Crashmo/Fallblox trailer, for the game’s European release next week. That music is great! And those puzzles look really difficult… I’m nowhere near mastering all the mechanics in Pushmo, and now I’m going to have another aspect to think about. This is kinda stressing me out, actually!

eShop goin’ HAM for rest of 2012: Guild01, Crashmo, and mad demo/VC releases

If I had been asked to put together a Nintendo Direct video for North America to present all of today’s eShop news, it would have essentially been an animation of Pushmo's Mallo jumping around to a Kanye West and Jay-Z song, singing “ball so hard Miyamoto wanna fine me.”

Nintendo did not ask me to put together that video. But I’ll do my best to collect today’s eShop news anyway:

  • Crashmo, a sequel to last year’s amazing and cute puzzler Pushmo, releases on November 22
  • Three games from Level-5’s Guild01 will release in the U.S. before the end of the year: LIberation Maiden, Crimson Shroud, and Aero Porter
  • Several first-party 3DS titles from Nintendo’s back catalog, as well as six more Virtual Console NES games, are coming to eShop

Pushmo “Snack Truck” puzzle. Pushmo actually has some pretty good continued DLC support from Nintendo – if you can extend the meaning of “DLC” to include QR codes randomly tweeted out by Nintendo. The result is the same!

Rumors of a new Castlevania 3DS unearthed from a miserable pile of secrets

E3 is but two weeks away, so expect all sorts of wild rumors to pop up between now and then, like today’s gossip that Konami is working on a new Castlevania game for 3DS, subtitled Mirror of Faith (or is Mirror of Fate?).

Konami registering a domain for Mirror of Fate several months ago gives this rumor some credit, but there’s another twist! There’s speculation that MercurySteam, the Spanish studio behind 2010’s Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, is developing this. Who knows what this means about Koji Igarashi’s involvement.

Anyway, whether it’s true or not, at least we got to share this Simon Belmont Pushmo code, and remind everyone that Pushmo exists and is a rad eShop game.

Anything that helps more people discover Pushmo is a good thing — like GameStop now carrying that and one other 3DS eShop game (Super Mario Land 2).

Okay, so the selection of eShop codes at GameStop isn’t exactly comprehensive, but you can buy Pushmo with trade-ins now, and that’s neat. Also, it’s infinitely more selection than GameStop’s DSiWare offerings. There were no redeemable DSiWare codes, so it was impossible to do something like this.

Pushmo’s Mallo, by Ashley Davis. Since the characters on screen are so small, and since the focus is really on the puzzles, it’s easy to overlook how inexplicable the character designs are. Is he wearing a red full-body leotard thing under his sumo thong, or is he all red except for his face and feet? Also, he’s wearing a sumo thong.

GBATemp user elisherer has put together a program that allows you to design Pushmo levels outside of the 3DS, then generate a QR code to import it! It’s still early in development, but the downloadable program already lets you open puzzles from QR codes, and somehow import them from pictures. Super clever!

You can download the current version of the app here, and get started making unnecessarily complex puzzles!
