English patch released for SaGa 2 remake →

Crimson Nocturnal has released a English patch forĀ SaGa 2: Goddess of Destiny, the DS remake forĀ Final Fantasy Legend II (Game Boy) released in Japan two years ago.

For those of you who’ve already pushed this game out of your memory, 1UP posted a favorable preview:

“Given the original’s lasting appeal, it’s hardly surprising that Square Enix has decided to revisit the game with a remake. What is surprising is that this new remake is no slapdash cell phone game, but rather a full-on DS game with gorgeous 3D graphics and stirring audio quality. SaGa 2: Goddess of Destiny marks the first time a Game Boy title has been reworked to this degree — and it’s an impressive reworking indeed.”

As with all fanmade patches, you’ll need a homebrew device and a digital version of the game, which we insist you obtain through legal methods, so make sure to import a copy — they’re on sale for $34.90 right now!

“Cheetahman Romasaga Arrange.” It’s been so long since we’ve featured a Cheetahmen II music remix, and this is a good one — made in the style of Kenji Ito’s soundtracks from SaGa games.

SaGa 2 DSi accessory set from Hori. Maybe it’s because they always coincide with Square Enix releases, but these Hori accessory kits always seem to coincide with special-edition DS releases.

This one features a Protect Case with the main SaGa 2 illustration in red outline on black, an extending stylus, and a great screen cleaner in the shape of the “Teacher” character.

The set will be out September 17 for 1,890 yen ($20.45).

Makai Toshi SaGa (Final Fantasy Legend), completed in one minute and 58 seconds, thanks to a chain of glitches. A bug in the inventory screen allows the player, depending on the in-game location the bug is triggered, to generate new items, warp to different locations, change characters to much more powerful classes, and even create items that work better than they’re supposed to. Magweasel’s Kevin Gifford translated a guide written by this speedrunner, if you require more details.

The result is that the ending for this Game Boy RPG takes longer than the actual playthrough.
