Game Center CX’s Shinya Arino and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World film director Edgar Wright (also directed Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz). The two met up recently to record a commentary track for the Japanese Blu-ray release of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World!

And while we’re talking about this, Ray Barnholt, publisher of Scroll and editor of the Game Center CX 2/Retro Game Challenge 2 fan translation, appeared on The Rumble Pack podcast and talked about his work on the fledgling project. It’s reassuring to hear he’s aiming to match Mother 3’s English translation for this work!

“Black Sheep” by Metric, with new chiptune accompaniment by tssf. I got kind of briefly obsessed with the “Clash at Demonhead” version from the Scott Pilgrim movie (dialogue from which is featured in this recording, of course), and I’m basically always happy to listen to the song again.

In this alternate-universe version of the movie, the fight between Scott and Todd Ingram briefly turns into a hacked-NES music battle.

“Airbrushed” (RAC Remix) by Anamanaguchi. While away, the band posted this remix of its first biweekly free single. It’s pretty weird! Like, horns weird.

In other Anamaguchi news, my illustrious employer Aol is graciously streaming the full soundtrack to the Scott Pilgrim vs. the World game today. If you have yet to buy either the soundtrack or the game, this is a totally great opportunity to hear all the tracks.

Although, you know what would be even more convenient? Buying the game and/or the soundtrack. Then you could listen to it whenever you want, possibly while fighting hipsters.

Game Night 2 with Bryan Lee O'Malley tomorrow at Giant Robot LA! →

Those of you in or close to the city of angels, make sure to hit up Giant Robot tomorrow evening for Game Night 2, which will feature special guest Bryan Lee O’Malley. He’ll not only sign copies of his comic Scott Pilgrim, but join in on all the gaming fun planned for the night — naturally, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game will be on tap.

According to our friends at video game culture shop Attract Mode, which is helping organize the event, you’ll also be able to snack on burgers, salads, fries, and delicious poutine there. So, make sure to RSVP for that shiz!

Oh, and that image above comes from Jay D Smith, who managed to convince Mr. O’Malley into sketching Ramona’s lost cat Gideon on his Game Boy. Shmowzow!

Anamanaguchi's Scott Pilgrim music out August 24 →

Whether or not you have the necessary equipment to play Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, you probably want the music to listen to on its own. (On the fence? Allow me to help: YES YOU DO.) Anamanaguchi tweeted that the soundtrack will be available on iTunes August 24, published by ABKCO Music. If you’re still not sure this album of original guitar/drum/NES compositions is for you after my persuasive capitals, you can stream it and decide for your damn self!

As you may have surmised from the image above, the band has also opened a new shop for merch, including (and currently limited to) t-shirts. There are currently four different shirts available for pre-order, at a special price of $13 each. Am I about to buy one? You’ll have to stay tuned to… my torso!

Scott Pilgrim game releases for Not DS today

If you have a PS3, starting today, you can play Scott Pilgrim vs The World, the River City Ransom-style 2D brawler based on the film/comic series by Bryan Lee O’Malley.

For those with just an Xbox 360, you’ll have to wait two weeks before you can enjoy the downloadable game’s Anamanaguchi-provided chiptune soundtrack and awesome pixelart. That might seem like a long time to wait, but just think about all the other poor (and some would say superior) consoles that won’t receive it at all!

O’Malley posted a tweet last night notifying fans on when they’ll see the game for the DS and other systems:

“Never. Stop asking. I want you to suffer.”

Oh well. At least you can still enjoy a for-sure/totally-intended Tiny Cartridge cameo in Scott Pilgrim vs The World. Also, enjoy the new trailer above!

A whole mess of Dragon Quest Slimes collected into one image by Radishperi (click for a larger image).

Unfortunately, you won’t see a all of these Slimes in Dragon Quest IX, so it’s up to you to pick up as many games from the franchise as possible to find them all. Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime is probably a great place to start (and it’s for the DS, too!)!

Speaking of Slimes, check out the shirt in this panel from the latest/last Scott Pilgrim volume. It’s kind of like the tee GameStop gave away last weekend!

Speaking of slimes even more, the Armamentalist quest in Dragon Quest IX is some ol’ bullshit. By the time I get around to raising a Wizard Ward and readying my mage to deliver a final blow to the Metal Slime, the little bugger always manages to flee!

Tiny Cartridge in the Scott Pilgrim game? Reader Matty pointed out this detail in the background of one of the Scott Pilgrim vs. the World screenshots released during E3. It features tiny in-game representations of the covers of the Scott Pilgrim comics, with a kind of familiar-looking face where the as-yet unrevealed Volume 6 belonged.

Now, I’m not convinced it’s Tiny, but if you worked on the game, please write in and either confirm it or lie to us!

In other (actual) Scott Pilgrim news, the PlayStation Blog posted a new trailer! With a killer new song!

Anamanaguchi's "Another Winter" from the Scott Pilgrim game →

Scott Pilgrim creator Bryan Lee O’Malley has posted a new Anamanaguchi song, “Another Winter,” from the Scott Pilgrim vs. the World game soundtrack. According to the band, this is the soundtrack to the game’s World 1-1. Also, according to the band, it’s a “WOOOOORLD PREMIERE AND SHIT”.

You can hear the track in an embeddable player over at O’Malley’s site. I might be listening to it a third time right now…

Five game videos you shouldn’t miss

While I was busy watching too many episodes of Deep Space Nine last night — including that awesome one where the station activated a self-destruct sequence after detecting what it thought was a Bajoran uprising — a slew of new video game trailers and clips posted online.

I’ve collected the videos most relevant to our interests here, like this Scott Pilgrim vs. The World debut trailer. Yeah, it’s releasing only for XBLA and PSN, but it has a rad Anamanaguchi soundtrack and some great spritework, so we’ll forgive it for not having a portable edition.

New, direct-feed Scott Pilgrim vs. The World screenshots.

The good news: It’s a four-player brawler featuring Scott Pilgrim (naturally), his girlfriend Ramona Flowers, and bandmates Kim Pine and Stephen Stills as playable characters with unique movesets — names that likely don’t mean much to you unless you’ve any familiarity with Bryan Lee O’Malley’s comic.

Along with standard attacks, blocks, grapples, and weapons, your characters can taunt enemies, summon mystical ninjas, and more. You can also level up to gain new abilities, and collect cash to spend in shops scattered around the game, à la River City Ransom.

The bad news: It’s releasing for PSN this August and for Xbox 360 (likely also as a downloadable game?) at a later date. Doesn’t look like there’s a DS version. Bow bow.
