On DSi difficulties, SD(HC) support

We probably won’t know for sure until the system hits store shelves, but a mysterious Japanese spec sheet posted on NeoGAF indicates that the Nintendo DSi does officially support SDHC, unlike the Wii.

Satoru Iwata asks about DSi:

“Shigeru Miyamoto insisted strongly on including support for [SD] cards. Nintendo’s internal software developers may not have necessarily been in favor of including the SD support, as on top of the added size that the SD card slot brings, the line between what you could do with it and what you couldn’t do without it is a bit unclear.

Miyamoto, however, said that he wanted it included, adding that he’d show a way to use it.”

Developers facing DSi difficulties?:

“An anonymous developer has said that its game has been refused certification because it ‘freezes up’ on the new DSi platform …

If true, the claim could suggest further incompatibilities between old DS models and the new camera-equipped version, potentially affecting not only already-released games but adding new QA challenges.

Close-up of the Nintendo DSi’s SD slot.

I think this is the first good shot I’ve seen of the DSi’s SD slot cover pulled open. It looks like it could break off easily if you’re not careful. Here’s a photo of the matte black version with an SD card sticking out:

On a related note, shortly after I confirmed my $300+ import preorder for a DSi on Play-Asia, I was so dazed by how much I just spent, I could not remember which system color I had just put in a reservation for.

Non-Ace Homebrew-user: Trials and Tribulations

As parody titles go, that one doesn’t really work, but you’re stuck with it anyway.

So after my recent and very mysterious M3 Real problems, I wiped my mini-SD, grabbed the latest M3 loader, and cautiously put a few things back on. Except for one freeze, it seems okay — my save files are hanging around, which is good.

I think it may just be the SD card, actually, because it kept blinking out while I was trying to reload it (my Mac would keep giving me warnings about it disconnecting mid-copy), but if the problems return, I’ll post. It really was weird, and apparently not common … which may also point to card issues.
