It’s everything you’d expect and want from a trailer for a massive crossover game — ridiculous special attacks, team combos, and arbitrary HP numbers hopping off characters like passengers jumping from a sinking ship.

Sega’s 3DS series of remakes for its classic games will bring an enhanced edition of the original Sonic the Hedgehog to Japan next week!
This release includes nice extras like the spin dashing that you can turn on or off, button remapping, normal and CRT modes, and the ability to switch between the Japanese and Western versions of the game to experience their differences. You can even set the audio to emulate the original Sega Genesis or the Sega Genesis model 2, and adjust the stereoscopic 3D to emphasize either depth or pop-out effects similar to Super Mario 3D Land.
I’ve no idea why Sega hasn’t brought its 3D series to the U.S. yet…

Gundersonmunderson created the graphics, animation, and music for this fun video. He emulated the Sega Genesis’ Yamaha YM2612 chip for this arrangement of College & Electric Youth’s “A Real Hero,” which you should remember from the soundtrack for Drive.

Project X Zone is due June 25 in the US and July 5 in Europe. In addition, we now know that the $39.99 game will be sold as a limited edition package that includes a mini-art book, poster, and music CD. Nice!

Recorded by Nintendaan. MAN, that tilt effect is weird. You see the sides of a (virtual) game machine, inside the screen of your game machine. It’s pretty cool that M2 made a thing that rotates a whole game as it’s being played though. And I’ll never get tired of squatty Hang-On dudes dragging their knees on the ground.
It would sure be cool if I could play this crazy stuff on my 3DS, Sega…

The 16-bit and Dreamcast tops, along with the oversized Dreamcast backpack (omg at that amazing mural), are headed to Japan from Segakawaii later this month. They’re priced at ¥4,725 ($49) each and ¥13,860 ($144) respectively.
The belt and luggage are both available at the Japanese Sega Store for ¥8,400 ($87) and ¥22,050 ($229) — hat tip to La Repisa Nintendo for posting those. As much as I love all of this, these prices are crazybutts.

The second 3D-updated Sega arcade port for 3DS (after Space Harrier) is Super Hang-On. It features wayyyyy too many options, including variable aspect ratios, optional tilt controls, difficulty settings, and a choice between the handlebar-only version of the game or the ride-on version. I’m not sure what the difference is!
This will be out March 27 in Japan for 600 yen. Two more of these are still on the way. Still waiting for these over here, Sega!
BUY Super Hang-On
Project X Zone, the tactical RPG featuring a massive crossover cast of characters from Sega, Capcom, and Namco Bandai franchises, will make it to the West this summer!
Wow, I didn’t expect that at all! At least we’ll be getting some new Mega Man on the 3DS in some form, if not on Legends 3. This will hit North America, Europe, and Australasia with its Japanese voices intact, though apparently publisher Namco Bandai will forego localizing the audio, saving some money with that decision.

This game doesn’t actually exist, but it’s an awesome mash-up of Sega properties from Jonathan “Persona” Kim (with a logo by Brady “Ashura” Hartel).
There’s a peek of this art, non-animated, in the back of the newly released Hardcore Gaming 101 Presents: Sega Arcade Classics Vol. 1 book — available in color, black and white, and as a downloadable PDF.

Segazine is looking hot, if these submissions to the upcoming black and white publication are anything to go by. The artists behind these pieces, in order of appearance:
There’s no guarantee that all of the illustrations will appear in the zine, but I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of these make the cut. You can follow Segazine’s progress and purchase a copy when they go on sale here.

Wait, what? 3D Space Harrier coming to the eShop? It’s based on the original arcade version, with widescreen support and, naturally, stereoscopic 3D. That’s interesting enough, but Sega also plans to put out more of these!
At least someone’s picking up from where Nintendo left off with its hit-or-miss 3D Classics line. That logo, though, doesn’t instill much confidence…
