Oh yeah, 3D Thunder Blade is out in Japan too ⊟

Gunvolt is definitely the marquee release on the 3DS eShop in Japan, but Sega and M2 have a nice release too: the 3D Classics version of Thunder Blade, the top-down/third-person helicopter shooter.

Of course, it’s got all the usual screen options and different cabinet emulations, because M2 is the damn best. There’s also a “special” mode with different enemy and obstacle placements and other changes.

Hatsune Miku Project Diva F 2nd out November 18 ⊟

…in the US, November 21 elsewhere — for PlayStation 3 and PS Vita. There’s also… pre-order DLC! Sure, why not. Pre-ordering the game from “select retailers” gets you the “Americana” costume, which is kind of American-ish, I guess. And GameStop pre-orders (and people who already have Project Diva F!) get an “Extra Character Pack” with three other Vocaloids.

A hundred Sega icons for your Twitter ⊟

In honor of reaching 100,000 followers on Twitter, Sega posted a really cool set of Twitter avatars representing the company’s whole history – from vintage HQ to SG-1000 to Sonic to the Tera Drive to Yakuza.

I, of course, downloaded the whole set to keep forever. Then, after changing my Twitter avatar to the vaguely repulsive Love & Berry, I zipped up the whole set so nobody else would have to click through all 100 to get them. You can get the file here on our Patreon page (where you can also sign up for Club Tiny if you happen to feel like supporting us!)

Enjoy your new online identity as that Sega urinal game!

Sonic Boom boxarts ⊟

Hey, Tails, can you stop playing Minecraft and put your tablet down for a sec? We’re trying to take a photo for the 3DS game’s boxart here. And is there any way we can crop out Knuckles’ creepy mummy fingers? No? Okay, whatever.

Uh oh, you can buy those Sega shirts from Japan ⊟

@zerochan spotted the Geek Life Sega shirts I posted before – the amazing silhouette and all-over designs – as well as these new ones, for sale on Amiami. A bit of a problem for someone who might feel compelled to spend $50+ on some Opa-Opa or Altered Beast stuff.

Problem or opportunity, I guess, depending on your finances/impulse control.

3D Fantasy Zone 2 ⊟

More radness from M2 and Sega 3D Classics, as an eShop version of Fantasy Zone 2 will be released in Japan next week.

Because M2 is amazing, this remake will include… a second, new game: Fantasy Zone 2 Link Loop Land! It’s a score attack game in which you attempt to keep your “Link” multiplier going. You’ll earn lots of coins that you can accumulate in multiple sessions, for use in the shop.

Sega hasn’t released any of the second series of 3D Classics outside of Japan yet (OutRun, Fantasy Zone), but I’m quite certain that will happen.

Hatsune Miku 3DS coming to U.S., Europe ⊟

The green-haired vocaloid will finally come to a Nintendo platform in the West some time next year! Sega announced Hatsune Miku Project Mirai Remix (a “localized version and a complete edition of Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai with added elements,” according to Gematsu) during a fifth anniversary talk show for the singer today. Thanks to Geii, CSD, and Claudia for the GIFs!

[Update: It’s “an enhanced version” of Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai 2.]

Persona Q's English E3 trailer ⊟

I feel like we’ve watched two dozen of these Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth clips already leading up to the 3DS game’s launch in Japan, but now we get to see them all again before the Western release, in English this time.

While I don’t see the game up for preorder yet, Amazon does have a variety of Persona Q 3DS skins, 2DS decals and cases, and even the limited edition Grimoire system (for slightly cheaper than you’d find on Play Asia).

Whoa, 3D OutRun has two new songs in it ⊟

Not sure why, but M2 went ahead and added new music (and a new car?) to the 3D Classics version of OutRun, coming out April 23 in Japan: “Cruising Line” by Manabu Namiki and “Camino a Mi Amor” by Jane-Evelyn Nisperos.

There’s also… a new car, three different simulated cabinets, four screen modes, totally remappable controls, replay saving (with multi-speed playback), mid-race saving, customizable volume for game audio, engine noise and ambient arcade machine sound…

This is deluxe even for Sega 3D Classics! M2 has OutDone itself.

7th Dragon fan translation patch released for real ⊟

I had been trying to wrap my head around this all morning — Cavespeak purportedly put out an “Etrian Odyssey Retold” patch for the first DS game this morning, an obvious April Fools’ Day prank. But then someone pointed out that the readme was worth a look, which for some reason had notes about a 7th Dragon fan translation patch?

So is it an Etrian Odyssey prank? A 7th Dragon joke? Or a real 7th Dragon fan translation release disguised as an Etrian Odyssey gag? It appears to be a legit release, according to these in-game shots Knurek posted.

7th Dragon, by the way, was an awesome Imageepoch-developed DS RPG that never released in the West. It’s very much like Etrian Odyssey — with the difficulty scaled back a bit — which was inevitable considering that series’ composer and initial director worked on this.

Cavespeak warns that this isn’t a complete translation and it could be buggy:

"This translation is a compromise, given limited time and ability. It is affectionately unfaithful and rewrites more than is ideal or necessary. I hope players will forgive my indulgence in translating the game myself, which was a way to improve my Japanese and keep the project a total secret. I was surprised at how charming the original was, and tried hard to preserve that in my translation. But this is not even in the same league as the Etrian Odyssey localizations or top-tier fan efforts.”

If you want to buy 7th Dragon to rip the ROM and apply the translation patch, there are some reasonably priced used copies on Amazon.

Sega 3D Classics shirts ⊟

One of each, please! Well, maybe. I don’t know if I’ve got what it takes to pull off the all-over arcade art print, all dragon grimacing in my armpit. But I want to have what it takes. I would be a Sega 3D Classic.

These Space Harrier, Galaxy Force 2 and Altered Beast shirts are sold through the Japanese Geek Life store and will be available in April. It looks like the store ships outside of Japan…
