Whoa, 3D OutRun has two new songs in it ⊟

Not sure why, but M2 went ahead and added new music (and a new car?) to the 3D Classics version of OutRun, coming out April 23 in Japan: “Cruising Line” by Manabu Namiki and “Camino a Mi Amor” by Jane-Evelyn Nisperos.

There’s also… a new car, three different simulated cabinets, four screen modes, totally remappable controls, replay saving (with multi-speed playback), mid-race saving, customizable volume for game audio, engine noise and ambient arcade machine sound…

This is deluxe even for Sega 3D Classics! M2 has OutDone itself.

7th Dragon fan translation patch released for real ⊟

I had been trying to wrap my head around this all morning — Cavespeak purportedly put out an “Etrian Odyssey Retold” patch for the first DS game this morning, an obvious April Fools’ Day prank. But then someone pointed out that the readme was worth a look, which for some reason had notes about a 7th Dragon fan translation patch?

So is it an Etrian Odyssey prank? A 7th Dragon joke? Or a real 7th Dragon fan translation release disguised as an Etrian Odyssey gag? It appears to be a legit release, according to these in-game shots Knurek posted.

7th Dragon, by the way, was an awesome Imageepoch-developed DS RPG that never released in the West. It’s very much like Etrian Odyssey — with the difficulty scaled back a bit — which was inevitable considering that series’ composer and initial director worked on this.

Cavespeak warns that this isn’t a complete translation and it could be buggy:

"This translation is a compromise, given limited time and ability. It is affectionately unfaithful and rewrites more than is ideal or necessary. I hope players will forgive my indulgence in translating the game myself, which was a way to improve my Japanese and keep the project a total secret. I was surprised at how charming the original was, and tried hard to preserve that in my translation. But this is not even in the same league as the Etrian Odyssey localizations or top-tier fan efforts.”

If you want to buy 7th Dragon to rip the ROM and apply the translation patch, there are some reasonably priced used copies on Amazon.

Sega 3D Classics shirts ⊟

One of each, please! Well, maybe. I don’t know if I’ve got what it takes to pull off the all-over arcade art print, all dragon grimacing in my armpit. But I want to have what it takes. I would be a Sega 3D Classic.

These Space Harrier, Galaxy Force 2 and Altered Beast shirts are sold through the Japanese Geek Life store and will be available in April. It looks like the store ships outside of Japan…

Wow, Sega bringing Hatsune Miku Project Diva F 2nd over ⊟

We did it, somehow – we made Sega’s weird rhythm game series about musical instrument people into a viable Western franchise. As proof, Sega just announced that it will release Hatsune Miku Project Diva F 2nd in the west, on both PS3 and Vita.

And good news for those of you who don’t believe a game exists unless it takes up space in your house: it’ll be physically released on both platforms as well.

This is great! I really like the first Vita game, and I am down for some more songs!

Yep, OutRun 3D is coming up on 3DS ⊟

For some reason, I feel like people were worried this wouldn’t happen, but of course it is! OutRun’s logo has been added to the group of Sega 3D Classics on Sega’s Japanese site, confirming that it will be next.

There’s no information on it – including release date or what crazy abundance of options will be available, but it’s coming to Japan sometime soon.

Yessss, 3D Fantasy Zone coming out in Japan ⊟

The next 3D Classic from M2 is 3D Fantasy Zone: Opa Opa Brothers. As with the other (EXCELLENT) 3D Classics, this has a variety of display, gameplay, and even region options.

A new mode accessible after completion of the game lets you play as Opa Opa’s brother Upa Upa, and lets you buy powerup items during the game, right from the touch screen.

The game comes out in Japan March 19! The second set of 3D Classics also includes After Burner 2, and probably some other stuff to be revealed later. Thanks, @jschwartzbauer!

Wow, Hatsune Miku Project Diva f is out today ⊟

I am totally interested in this game and I still forgot it was coming today! I blame Danganronpa (and, like, life.) Project Diva f is out on PSN in North America, and will be out in Europe March 12.

The game is $30, and there’s free “Enhancement Pack” DLC along with other paid stuff.

Persona Q 3DS XL case ⊟

Really digging the psychedelic styling of this 3DS XL case by Sega! I’m not sure how Persona 3 + Persona 4 + Etrian Odyssey = Austin Powers, but I’ll take it. I also enjoy the lil’ Teddie and Koromaru inside!

It’s ¥‎2,894 yen from Amazon Japan and ships in June. I haven’t seen it on any import sites yet, but I’m sure it’ll show up! Via nintendotweet.

Hero Bank commercial features dramatic leek fight ⊟

Watch a kid beat up some randos on the street in this commercial for Sega’s 3DS game Hero Bank.

He’s using special attacks from the game, all of which come with a financial penalty, to win his fights, but I kinda think it’s better without the context. “Strangers attack a little kid! Then he punches them out. Anyway buy our game!”

This is what Sonic & his strong friends look like now ⊟

Sega announced another 3DS/Wii U exclusive with Sonic Boom, which will accompany a new animated series and toy line, all of which feature the Sonic family’s revamped look. The reactions I’ve seen have ranged from “Sonic Boom will save anime” to women calling off their weddings with Knuckles.

Myself, I’m so divested from the series by now, I’m not even bothered that it looks like King Tut bit the heroes and turned everyone into half-mummies, or that Knuckles went HAM on the weights but forgot leg day. (my favorite reaction has been Kyledk05's: “How the f*** is Knuckles supposed to maintain those siqq gainz with all the cardio he's gonna be doing?”)

Anyway, Sega handed off development to Big Red Button Entertainment (Wii U) and Sanzaru Games (Nintendo 3DS). The games will feature “collaborative gameplay at its core,” and will also ”introduce exploration, combat and a new Enerbeam tether mechanic that will allow the Sonic Boom world to be discovered in totally unique ways.” Trailer after the break:

Hatsune Miku: Project Diva f out in March ⊟
The Vita version of Sega’s Miku rhythm game, which I’ve really been looking forward to trying, will be released on PSN in March, Sega announced today. I’m ready for a new Vita rhythm game. Did you guys play DJ Max Technica Tune, by the way?
Man, I’m still not used to the fact that Hatsune Miku is a popular enough character in America to support two game releases. This one’s digital-only, but… that only serves to highlight the fact that it was released in stores once here already. The future!

How awesome was this part in Gunstar Heroes? ⊟
I mean, every part of Gunstar Heroes is awesome, yeah. But at this point, you’ve just beaten this weird dragon-punching mini-boss made out of cubes, and now you’re sliding down a frickin’ pyramid, shooting up to let your gun track anything that pops up on the screen.
Thanks for reminding me about the scene, Pixelclash!
