Slime 3DS skins

FINALLY. Etsy seller GameThemedThings has reproduced the Slime pattern from the Dragon Quest Monsters 3DS (the best 3DS). Sure, it’s missing the caption, but some would consider that a positive.

Plus, it’s available in two different color schemes, for any color 3DS and 3DS XL. And like all these skins, it’s way cheaper than buying a limited edition 3DS.

BMO 3DS by Neskatomon Everyone wants a handheld that looks like BMO — D3P and Nintendo just need to go ahead and release a special edition BMO system when the eventual Adventure Time 3DS sequel releases. Neskatomon created this custom vinyl skin and also applied a complementary piece to the back of the 3DS. It looks a bit rough and doesn’t include BMO’s VCR butt-slot, but you can see it here. With it being Christmas today, here’s a present or all those Animal Crossing fans who fell in love with the limited edition 3DS XL that released in Japan.

Tiny Cartridge reader Albertine posted this image of the system’s pantsu-esque pattern, so you can use it to create a custom 3DS skin on sites like DecalGirl or GelaSkins. It’s much cheaper than importing the limited edition hardware! Unfortunately, it probably looks best on a White model, which is only available in Japan and Europe right now.

That’s a pretty nice Cave Story 3DS XL skin! Nerd Story — who also has a really cool Tumblr theme based on the game — created and ordered this through GelaSkins.

And just in case you forgot, Nicalis will release an expanded version of Cave Story with widescreen support and new content through the 3DS eShop on October 4.

Official Blip Festival 2009 Winamp skin (.wsz download link). Do people still use Winamp? I hope so; it’s a great, uncomplicated program (provided you keep it trimmed down to just the essential components) for playing music. I’d still use it if I hadn’t made this MacBook my primary computer box last year. Little known fact: before I brought my writing talents to the illustrious and high-paid profession of games journalism, I produced articles for the Nullsoft/Winamp team in a semi-official role, highlighting update releases, niche albums, custom skins, and other junk relevant to the community. It was a lot like what we do here! Anyway, though we’ve been remiss with covering the upcoming chiptune festival, Blip Fest 2009 is less than two weeks away! If you can manage it, make sure you get your ass to NYC for the three-day event starting December 17th to hear and see some of the micromusic acts we rave about here all the time — Minusbaby, Leeni, Enso, No Carrier, Nullsleep, The J. I hate to reward a company for using photos of half-clothed women to sell its mediocre products, but this photo is hilarious. Why was Mario Kart DS’s boxart photoshopped onto the system’s touchscreen? Why is there an iPod stuffed into the model’s bra?

Red Robot DS Lite and iPhone skins, available at MusicSkins for $20 and $15, respectively. Most DS Lite skins look terrible, but I’m quite fond of this one! I’d love to get a system decal that matches the Sam Brown print I have hanging in my bedroom. The online shop has a couple other decent skins (out of several dozens), including this slick one based on rapper Prodigy’s H.N.I.C. albums: Of course, carrying around an H.N.I.C.-branded portable puts you at a high risk of gettin’ ya caps peeled.
