Keeping with its tradition of releasing bright yellow Pikachu-themed handhelds, Nintendo will put out special edition 3DS XLs featuring the Pokemon mascot this year.
Part of that tradition also involves not making it easy for those in the West to buy these portables — you’ll only be able to preorder one through Japan’s Pokemon Center stores for ¥18,900 ($238). :o(

CoroCoro Magazine’s 35th anniversary special edition 3DS. We have to wait until mid-April, and the next issue of the magazine, to find out how this thing is going to be distributed, but I can already tell you this much as an exclusive teaser: it’s really, really unlikely that you’ll get one.
Please don’t prove me wrong by eBaying. I don’t want to be responsible for that kind of wacky spending. And if you’re going to buy a Japan-only 3DS, there are better options.

In the U.S., the only limited edition system we’ve received from here is the Legend of Zelda 25th anniversary design. We’re still waiting on the White and Cobalt Blue models.

New Cobalt Blue color for 3DS, and a special edition design for the Fire Emblem: Awakening system bundle, both announced for Japan (click for larger images).
The Cobalt Blue edition releases there on March 22, while the Fire Emblem bundle hits on April 19 with a copy of the game and a slick-looking ¥1,000 point card that should come in handy for the SRPG’s paid downloadable content.
Japan is on a roll with 3DS colors and bundles! While we’re still waiting to get the White version in the States, Japan will receive these, plus new Super Mario 3D Land bundles (White and Pink models) and Monster Hunter 3G bundles (Red and Black models) in the coming weeks.
