Tiny Cartridge

Wonderful Dragon Quest fanart by Zac Gorman
This will be featured at iam8bit’s gallery show opening tomorrow in Los Angeles! More than 80 artists have provided pieces for the exhibit, which is nuts.
Square Enix has put out a list detailing a portion of the games it will show at E3 next week, but the tally doesn’t include any of Wii U or 3DS’s Dragon Quest games — there’s not even a mention of Bravely Default, though that may be because Nintendo is publishing it in the U.S. I’ll be very disappointed if we don’t hear anything about Dragon Quest X, Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry’s Wonderland 3D, Slime MoriMori Dragon Quest 3, or Dragon Quest VII.

Bravely Default headed to North America, Europe

It’s a pretty crazy Nintendo Direct when news about Bravely Default’s Western release is maybe the third or fourth exciting item of the day.

Nintendo will take over publishing duties from Square Enix, and will release the much anticipated 3DS RPG in the U.S. next year, and in Europe some time in 2013. I would be more upset about the delay, but it’s not like we don’t already have a ton of stuff to look forward to this year.

Here’s a preview of the U.S. boxart.

In your face, Mario

With Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon releasing today and March Madness now in progress, let us celebrate both with this shot of the taller Mario Bros. sinking a basket over his sibling. With this buzzer beater, I’m sure Luigi has messed up almost everyone’s bracket.

I bet you forgot all about Mario Hoops 3-on-3.

Dragon Quest VII’s live action commercials are… in Spanish?

Yeah, I don’t understand why either, but I love that Square Enix continues to make these live action spots for the series. In Japan at least. Other territories get Seth Green and Jedward. Oh man, remember how hard I burned Jedward that one time?

Dragon Quest VII 3DS commercials

Man, this looks rad. After Ni no Kuni, which I kinda wanted to be Ghibli Dragon Quest but isn’t (it’s not a bad game, just not what I wanted right now), I’m in the mood for some Real Dragon Quest.

The 3DS remake, by the way, hits Japan this week — we’re still waiting on an announcement for the West.

Theatrhythm Final Fantasy hits iPhone, iPad today

No big surprise here, the beloved 3DS rhythm game is out for iOS devices today (New Zealand shop, U.S. link incoming). Also unsurprising: in-app purchases are insane in the membrane, crazy insane, got no brain.

The app is free to download with two songs (“One Winged Angel” and “Zanarkand”), but then you’ll spend $0.99 on each song, $2.99 on each song bundle for the numbered Final Fantasy games, and $1.99 on each character. Buying all of the content will set you back around $90. Oh, and this mobile edition lacks the EMS feature that lets you play extended versions for a number of songs.

Theatrhythm Final Fantasy for 3DS is currently $30 at Amazon (includes around 80 songs, more available as DLC).

Dragon Quest VII coming to Nintendo 3DS, according to this purported scan from Jump’s latest issue. This remake of the 2000 PlayStation game hits Japan in February.
Maybe one day this, Slime Mori Mori Dragon Quest 3, or Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry’s Wonderland 3D will release in the West. :o/

Bravely Default: Flying Fairy Swapnote stationery might be the worst one yet – considering it has both a giant blank space and a retailer logo.
Uh, despite those drawbacks, and despite the fact that I feel a cold chill when I think about opening my neglected Swapnote inbox again… I kind of want to make sure I have this pattern. I think I just like the idea that Swapnote is regarded highly enough to be used as a promotional tool.

A closer look at Bravely Default’s lovely diorama that comes with the 3DS game’s collector’s edition set.

Now that’s a limited edition set: the Bravely Default set is crazy nice, unboxed. Look at that 3DS case! Actually, the whole thing is nuts, from the diorama to the packaging.
