Indies Zero head Masanobu Suzui crying at Yodobashi Camera because he can’t find a copy of Theatrhythm Final Fantasy, which his studio developed for Square Enix.
The Final Fantasy rhythm game for 3DS released in Japan this week, and apparently it’s selling quite well — some even report that a few stores have sold out of their copies! That might be due to a low initial shipment, but still, I figured a lot of people would ignore this and wait for the much cheaper iOS version that seems inevitable.
[Update: In case it’s not obvious, I’m glad that wasn’t the case, and that people are supporting Indies Zero!]

Some of these environments look wayyyy bland. Come on, TOSE (assuming they’re the developer), you can do better than this. At least the blue hedgehog/mole guys are cute.

Limited edition Kingdom Hearts 3DS hitting Japan with Dream Drop Distance in March (click for larger image).
It looks a lot like the patterned Kingdom Hearts DSi released in Japan back in 2009, but the system’s glossy finish and the magenta crown give it a lot more “pop.” I would actually consider buying this — if I was a dude resigned to buying all the expensive Kingdom Hearts junk out there, and if the console weren’t region-locked.

Last time I checked in with the Kingdom Hearts series, it was all Nomuroid spikyhairs and Nomurically-dressed Disney companions, fighting endless, identical crowds of featureless enemies.
If this is the kind of thing that’s happening in Kingdom Hearts right now, I’m considering revisiting it!

Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy’s Japanese boxart. Very nice!
I’m certain Square Enix will be fighting an uphill battle trying to convince gamers to pay full price on this instead of waiting for the inevitable iOS port — not knocking the quality/content of the title, just the easy adaptability of its concept/touchscreen controls for iPhones.
That said, videos for the Japanese demo are popping up (hey, Nintendo of America, where are our eShop demos?!), and it looks tight: here’s the best demonstration video I’ve seen so far. Theatrhythm ships in Japan on February 16. No announcement for a U.S. release yet!

Siliconera notes you’ll be able to battle an adorable Sephiroth and other villains in the game’s Chaos Tower, a boss rush that pits you against “bosses like… the Black Knights from Final Fantasy II with a special ‘dark score’.”

Along with Neku from The World Ends with You, you’ll see the game’s Pinnochio, The Three Musketeers, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and Tron: Legacy scenes. There’s some silly AR stuff, too (04:00).
This hits Japan in March 2012. Square Enix hasn’t announced a U.S. release date for the game — or any of its 3DS titles (not counting Bust-a-Move Universe) — yet.

About two months after it started (and after we posted an appeal for help), the Nanashi no Game fan translation project has resulted in an actual, downloadable patch. If you have access to a DS flash cart and a legally-acquired ROM of the game, you can now read the text in Square Enix’s creepy-ass DS game (about people discovering a cursed RPG).
Perfect timing! You can play this on Halloween while you wait for trick-or-treaters, and then get really startled when they knock on your door.

The lack of on-screen enemies in the latter scenes — Bravely Default will feature random battles — makes for some uninteresting empty environments; I wish this took a Dragon Quest IX-style modern approach, showing enemies in the overworld that chase after you.
