Create your Dream Boyfriend in Style Savvy: Trendsetters ⊟
New info on the Japanese update for Style Savvy: Trendsetters details the changes, including the new Dream Boyfriend mode. It’s not so much a dating sim as it is a mode in which you… create a boyfriend, in your dreams.
Players can create their ideal boyfriend in a character creator, then take him out to various locations… in your own character’s dreams! As long as the player’s ideal boyfriend is skinny and fashionable, I guess.
There’s also a new AR mode and some other additions, which you can read a bit more about at Siliconera. Trendsetters will be rereleased on Japan with this new stuff on April 17, but existing owners will be able to update their versions for free starting March 26. There’s no word on a western release yet!

Amazon has had the game pretty cheap for some time now, but it’s just price-matched Best Buy’s latest discount. Really, I just wanted an excuse to repost this GIF — credit to Emmy Cicierega for the original Macy’s Sale animation.
If you didn’t catch it during last week’s Nintendo Direct Mini, the 3DS Image Share service that lets you post in-game screenshots to Twitter, Facebook, and Tumblr from our system now support Style Savvy. So take advantage of that to get a huge number of comments and reblogs when your Gracie and K.K. outfits from the game!
Dang, Emmylou is coldhearted
Looks like Phillip stopped in his tracks after that statement, completely destroyed by Emmylou’s disapproval. Gotta step up your coat game, young’n.
I’ve mentioned a bunch already that Fire Emblem: Awakening, Super Mario 3D Land, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, and Mario Kart 7 are all on sale for $30, but did you know that you can get Style Savvy: Trendsetters for under $20 right now?
Don’t we all, Clara…
Somewhat related to Style Savvy, if you’re a 3DS XL owner in Europe, you can get a free digital download for one of these first-party games, so long as you register your hardware with Nintendo before January 15:
- New Art Academy
- Super Mario 3D Land
- New Style Boutique (Style Savvy: Trendsetters)
- Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask
- Freakyforms Deluxe
I am way jealous that we don’t have this in North America, but I guess we got a lot of great holiday bundle deals to make up for it. Plus there was the Donkey Kong: Original Edition deal, which expires on Sunday so don’t forget to take advantage of that!
Why you so thirsty, Milos? Quit blowin’ up my inbox.
This guy already has a girlfriend, but he’s still trying to run game on girls in Style Savvy: Trendsetters, sending over winky faces and whatnot.
Trying to act all subtle with his sentences that end with ellipses. Trying to set up fake accounts on OK Cupid so he can stalk his crushes. Trying to invite girls over to watch The King’s Speech on Netflix and pull some “baby it’s cold outside” nonsense.
Nope, Milos, not gonna happen.
And why should she need to? Live your life, girl. YOLO.
Style Savvy: Tumblr bloggers
First off, hello, everyone visiting from @tumblr! Thanks for stopping by the site — if you like having silly posts about video games in your dashboard, give our “Follow” button at the top a click. We promise your dashboard will be a lot more fun with us in it!
Okay, back to this screenshot from Style Savvy: Trendsetters! I can’t believe Tumblr found its way into a Nintendo-published 3DS game. This scene doesn’t specifically name the service, but come on, we all know what she’s talking about. Here’s a clip of the exchange.
Little, silly things can really make you fall in love with a game, like these customer descriptions in Style Savvy: Trendsetters. I’d love to be the guy who writes these.
Apparently there’s even a convo in the game where the customers talk about Tumblr? If you see it, make sure to send some photos of that our way! MF’in Style Savvy!

Pink 3DS XL bundle. I’ve never heard of Gilt before, but it’s got the early exclusive on the pink and white 3DS XL for North America, bundling it with Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask or Style Savvy: Trendsetters for $219.99. That’s a pretty dang good price!
The system won’t ship until after November 25, which makes me think this is going to be a Black Friday deal that Gilt is revealing first.
Do you know what’s releasing today? Awwww yeah. If I ran Nintendo’s marketing, shit would be on and poppin’.
And because Style Savvy: Trendsetters now features fashions for men, I whipped up a GIF for the boys, too.

Japanese and North American covers for Paper Mario: Sticker Star, Animal Crossing 3DS, and Girl’s Mode 3DS — or Style Savvy: Trendsetters, as it’s known in the West.
I think all of these are wonderful, though I expect Animal Crossing and Style Savvy to have much less interesting artwork once they’re localized for the West.
Oh, and if you’re an Animal Crossing nut, here’s a video dissecting every detail from the 3DS boxart.

Style Savvy: Swagsetters for the 3DS, soon to be followed up with a winter expansion, Style Savvy: Swagsweaters.
That would be the title and case if I ran Nintendo at least, which I do not, yet. For now, the game is called Style Savvy: Trendsetters, and it’s coming out on October 22.
As JC mentioned before, the game features menswear now, so you’ve no excuse for rockin’ that tangerine polo with those sweatpants anymore. Unless that’s what’s hot where you live. Maybe in your town, mimicking the dress and appearance of George Costanza is what closes the deal at the end of a date. That could be the case.
