Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition Platinum Bison figurine. Game Informer posted a code for this exclusive Figurine Mode item: EebkxqWbYJ
So here’s a semi-embarrassing admission: I keep meaning to try to set an offer like this up with Capcom, but I just haven’t gotten around to contacting anyone. Seeing this gives me hope that it would work out, though — if the biggest game magazine in the country can run an exclusive offer like this, surely two dudes on some random blog can hook that up!

Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition promotional SpotPass notification from Capcom. If you have a 3DS and the game, you’ve probably already received this, but I was late to be pinged and thought it was noteworthy.
Capcom sent out a code today for a special unlockable Blanka figurine (sorry to ruin the surprise). As far as I know, Capcom is the only company doing this kind of SpotPass promotion, which basically has no benefit to them since it only reaches existing customers. It’s just nice. I guess it keeps people playing? Capcom is also the only company to release a launch game with online play, so I guess it just has more interest in taking advantage of the 3DS’s features.
The code, by the way, is DmdkeRvbxc.

How to be a Super Street Fighter IV master in just eight minutes! So, after hearing JC rave about the game and everyone else’s great impressions, I finally picked up Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition last night.
Now despite my experiences pulling off my fair share of shoryukens back in the day, it turns out that I am the blurst Super Street Fighter IV player ever. Not only is every scrub with a copy of this game kicking my ass online (Pro Mode), I can’t even beat Dee Jay on the game’s medium difficulty without some serious cheesiness.
So, I’ve looked up a few online guides to improve my fighting technique with Ibuki, but I now wonder, “Is it worth spending dozens of hours practicing matches and watching combo videos to get half-way decent in the handheld version of this game? Or should I just stick to Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars, in which I’ll know for sure that some 12-year-old kid won’t be able to absolutely school me by button-mashing Cody?”

tags / super street fighter iv / capcom / nintendo 3ds / gaming / 3ds / ecMy favorite Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition feature that I’ll never use? Totally the figurine mode. I anticipate pouring Play Coins into the game and hunting down every code I can get to amass a giant army of figurines… which I’ll never trade or bring out for StreetPass battles due to hermitude.
NeoGAFfer wackojackosnose has compiled a list of passwords that can be redeemed for unusual, leveled-up figures including gold and silver versions of the characters. Some of them apparently come from Japanese retail promotions — and the gold Chun-Li comes from the video stream of Capcom’s Nintendo World 2011 presentation.

tags / 3ds / jc / streetpass / super street fighter iv / nintendo 3ds / gamingEleven minutes of direct-screen gameplay from Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition. I know Capcom wanted to demonstrate the new over-the-shoulder perspective here, but I can’t imagine actually playing in that mode in versus matches, much less battles online where dudes are already judging me after perfect-ing me in two straight rounds.
At least in the standard view, I have a chance of landing one of Dan Hibiki’s jabs, so it’s not an absolute defeat.
By the way, Amazon is giving preorders of SSFIV 3D a $10 promotional credit, so jump on that!

Yes, it’s true*, if you play this 3DS launch title, pugilists will spill out of your system, all into your living room.
This is apparently an American TV commercial. If companies are actually advertising on TV for 3DS games, that’s a really good sign that some of these launch games (specifically, the ones with TV commercials) could take off! Which would be ideal for those of us already buying the game, hoping to have the online lobbies well populated.

While we’re sitting around like a bunch of chumps, our own JC Fletcher has been playing Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition — a game he describes as “an incredible technical achievement” and “as good as any portable Street Fighter game can be”. You can check out his full thoughts on SSFIV 3D at Joystiq.
And while JC wasn’t able to procure one of Jetdaisuke’s fancy paper-thin 3DSes, he did score a standard 3DS model and reviewed that, too. Read his impressions on the new Nintendo portable and its built-in software over here!

While the touchscreen hotkeys in this fighter are useful for reliably pulling off instant special moves and combos, this fellow demonstrates why you might want to filter out dudes using this feature when playing online.
If you have an NND account, make sure to watch the original video here for all the WWWWWs. You can see another clip of the Sonic Boom spammer at this link, too.
Other than this cheesiness, everything else I’ve heard about SSFIV 3D has been positive, with some calling it one of the best online experiences they’ve ever had on a Nintendo platform (which might not be saying much).

Capcom is really getting a lot of mileage out of those silhouette animations, first used in a trailer during last year’s Nintendo Conference. Of course, this whole game is based on existing content, so it makes sense for Capcom to make multiple uses out of its promotional materials.
While we’re talking about SSFIV 3D, producer Yoshinori Ono recently explained why Capcom is focusing on the 3DS: “First, we are in Nintendo country. Second, the feeling I have with 3DS is the same as when the Dreamcast came out — as a developer, I mean, these machines are so exciting. We’re fascinated by it at Capcom, and diving into the innards at the moment, but you know there’s just so much more there to unlock; it’s got more to give.”

Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition “Ryu’s Belt” lanyard, a bonus included with orders of the game from Capcom’s online store. The attached badge has a lenticular Ryu/logo image on one side, and “Accepting All Challengers” on the other.
I think the idea is that you wear this around your neck, with your 3DS dangling from it, and passersby will see it and recognize that HERE COMES A NEW CHALLENGER.
Please do not attempt to wear this as a belt.

This video (using footage from the Xbox 360 version) explains the impact of the new touchscreen control options on gameplay, including the ability to launch very complicated moves, even those requiring charging, instantly.
This is the first time I’ve seen SSF43D’s touchscreen stuff explored not just as a concession for dudes who are crap at Street Fighter, but a new method of play enabling new combos and requiring new strategies. That’s kind of awesome! The “letting crap dudes play” thing is also pretty awesome.
