G.G. Series: Throw Out trailer. As far as I can tell, this new Japanese DSiWare game is just Team Handball, except to make it more interesting, Suzak replaced humans with robots for players. I love the team names — Vermillion, Hell Hound, Bad Religion, and Bloody Hearts.

Publisher Genterprise released this in Japan last week for 200 points and plans to put out G. G. Series: Exciting River, a top-down kayaking game with an odd Irish folk music soundtrack (at least in its trailer), for the same price next Wednesday. Both titles and 28 others will be included in the upcoming G.G. Series Collection cart.

Genterprise, Suzak releasing G.G. Series collection (30 DSiWare games)

Genterprise and Suzak announced G.G. Series Collection, a retail cart featuring 30 (!) titles from their budget G.G. DSiWare releases in Japan. It looks like standard Nintendo DS systems should be able to load the cart, so you won’t need a Japanese DSi (or a DSi at all) to enjoy this!

It makes sense that they’re packing so many games into the collection, as I hear many of them are crap; what do you expect for 200 Points? Still, a tally of 30 games is impressive, even more so when you realize that Genterprise has put out only 14 of them so far; 16 of the titles are still unreleased, and the majority of them were previously unannounced (full list/more details after the break).

G. G. Series: Assault Buster, a new DSiWare game from Suzak and Genterprise slated to hit Japan’s shop in two weeks. If the gameplay seems a little familiar to you, that’s because it takes a lot of inspiration from Treasure’s Bangai-O games — a series Tim Rogers once described as “Brain Training for God.” Yeah, I still don’t understand what that’s supposed to mean.

At 200 points, it’s unlikely Assault Buster will match Bangai-O’s excellence, but what do you expect? Suzak puts out like two new games each month! No time for quality!

Speaking of downloadable games, here’s NintenDaan’s monthly Japanese DSiWare Update video for January.

DSiWare news out the god damn yin-yang

I loathe putting together these round-up posts because they require so much effort and no one bothers to read through them, but someone has to cover these DSiWare items, right? Sure, Nintendo Life and Go Nintendo mention this junk from time to time, but I’m kind of focused on building the audience for this site. Anyway…

This trailer for Burning Puzzle Flame Tail presents a curious concept: the game scrolls like a vertical shoot’em-up with the DSi turned on its side but has the mechanics of a puzzler. You ignite block groups by touching them with your snake-like form, and collect letters spelling out power-ups. It’s the latest from Mindware, the little known studio that produced surprise gem Maboshi’s Arcade.

G.G Series Black X Block, one of two Japanese DSiWare releases from Genterprise’s budget G.G. brand last month. The other 200 Point game, also developed by Umihara Kawase DS studio Suzak, was a puzzler called Vertex, which you can see screenshots for here. Genterprise and Suzak have at least two more cheap titles planned for January, shoot’em up Dark Spirits and top-down action game D-Tank, both of which look not terrible, especially considering their price.

You can always count on NintenDaan to upload Nintendo’s video summary of DSiWare releases from the past month — here’s December 2009’s clip. There are a few interesting games in there that you might want to see, like Fight With Photos: Photo Fighter X and Kappa Road.

Out of all the games, G.G Series Black X Block seems the most fascinating, even with its simple stick-man graphics, graph paper background, and block platforms.

Umihara Kawase DS reels in pirates

Umihara Kawase DS released in Japan last week, and while the series hasn’t ever left the country, it maintains a small following in the States, so some of you might appreciate news about the grapple-based platformer.

As mentioned before, this release includes the original Super Famicom game and its PlayStation sequel, as well as extra levels. The Umihara Kawase PSP title that shipped last year was also port of the PS1 game, but it was plagued with bugs, according to import previews.

With Suzak working on this latest release (instead of Rocket Studios, which developed the PSP title), I thought the DS game was in much better hands. Then a Tiny Cartridge reader notifed us of an awful bug: “The physics seem fine, but the fishing lure starts acting wonky after ten minutes, refusing to hold onto fish or platforms.”

The fishing line, of course, is an imperative instrument in the game — it’s how you navigate the levels and deal with the wandering enemies. Sounds like a disaster!

Ninja Robot Legend video, now with a boss fight! Watching someone competent play this DSiWare import really does make a difference — it looks much more fun than the other gameplay clip I posted last week, which was demonstrated by a cat rolling back and forth over the controls while trying to coerce the ninja into scratching under its chin.

Tiny Cartridge has really become some sort of hub for Suzak news lately. Please excuse all the junk I’ve posted about the developer this past month — it’s not my fault they keep pumping out interesting projects.

Three minutes with Umihara Kawase DS. This crummy footage is more than 10 months old, but I wanted to bring up the game because this is probably Suzak’s “secret” DS project that Siliconera brought up yesterday (if not this, then Genterprise’s new Wizardry).

Sega had a demo station for Umihara Kawase DS at Tokyo Game Show, and while the title failed to receive any coverage on the U.S. side, I hear it’s bangin’.  At the least, I doubt it’s as disastrous as last year’s PSP release.

This hits stores in Japan soon — next week soon even. Decorate your desktop with Umihara Kawase to remind yourself that you should import this!

Domo plays the piano. Nintendo posted five Domo-themed games on the U.S. DSiWare shop today, so I’m using that as an excuse to share my favorite Domo-kun episode. One of the budget (200 Point) releases is Rock-n-Roll Domo, so the clip is extra relevant!

Little known fact: Suzak developed these. Yes, the same studio behind Umihara Kawase DS and the G.G. Series titles in Japan. That doesn’t guarantee the Domo games are exceptional; it’s just an interesting connection. If you’re looking for a new and excellent downloadable game on a Nintendo platform, you should probably stick with LostWinds: Winter of the Melodias on WiiWare.

You can preview all five of the new Domo DSiWare games below (starting around the 00:23 mark):

Ninja Robot Legend gameplay. Despite its similarities in title with Robot Ninja Haggleman, this DSiWare game plays completely different. Here, you hop from one dropping block to another, avoiding enemy samurai and slashing at gears until you open an exit to the next stage. The curtain is a nice touch.

Super Hero Ouga, Genterprise and Suzak’s other budget GG. Series release on Japan’s DSiWare service this week, is equally simple. It’s as barebones as you’d expect from a beat’em up priced at 200 Nintendo Points:

Buy: U.S. Matte White, Pink, Black and Blue DSi

Import: Japanese Nintendo DSi (White, Black, Pink, Red, Lime Green, Metallic Blue)

Ninja Robot Legend, coming to DSiWare in Japan.

This is as blatant a Robot Ninja Haggleman rip-off as you can make — two-thirds of its title is identical, and the logo even has a set of gears! The mechanics are a little different, though, as the primary gimmick is its dropping floors, so you have to be light on your feet with this platformer.

Genterprise and Suzak have been killing it lately with its budget (200 Points) G.G. Series games in Japan, releasing two shoot’em ups last month, two puzzlers this week, and now two side-scrollers next week.

The other GG. Series title coming out next week is Super Hero Ouga, which is a 2D brawler that has you building up a hero gauge to unleash super attacks:

Again, totally killing it.

Import: Japanese Nintendo DSi (White, Black, Pink, Red, Lime Green, Metallic Blue)

G. G. Series: Wonder Land full playthrough.

A few points about this Alice in Wonderland-themed budget shoot’em up game that released yesterday on Japan’s DSiWare service:

  • You can complete the game — all three stages — in under eight minutes. It’s short, but what do you expect for 200 Points?
  • I actually really like some of the music!
  • That is the worst and most boring version of the Cheshire Cat I’ve ever seen. The other two stages bosses, the Mad Hatter and Queen of Hearts, are thankfully more interesting.
  • Suzak, the developer behind this and the other DSiWare shoot’em up that released this week, Z. One, is also working on Umihara Kawase for DS. The studio’s previous releases include the F-Zero GBA games, Wario: Master of Disguise, and the under-appreciated Boing! Docomodake DS.

Buy: U.S. Nintendo DSi (White, Pink, Black and Blue)

Import: Japanese Nintendo DSi (White, Black, Pink, Red, Lime Green, Metallic Blue)
