It seems silly to invest so much into Swapnote when there’s an imminent Miiverse 3DS release, but this update is free so I can’t complain. New features introduced:
There are a few more additions too, like being able to mark up to 30 notes at a time for deletion. Now if only there was a way to download more than 20 notes at a time — that’s what kept me from even opening the app in months. Well, that and the probability of those waiting notes reading like the one above posted by Fidel.
Watch a trailer for the new features:
If Swapnote’s mascot Nikki had a cameo in a 2D game — and I really hope Nintendo’s in-house and second-party development teams find excuses to make this happen — she’d probably look a lot like this sprite!

If the idea of opening Swapnote and sorting through a deluge of unread messages gives you stomach upsets, you can see the app’s one-year anniversary note here.

Apparently you can set the 3DS clock ahead to 12/21 to see it?
Swapnote is absolutely the most precious thing, which I’m terrified to open because it would result in something like the courtroom scene from Miracle on 34th St., but with Yoshi drawings and cat pictures instead of letters to Santa.

Bravely Default: Flying Fairy Swapnote stationery might be the worst one yet – considering it has both a giant blank space and a retailer logo.
Uh, despite those drawbacks, and despite the fact that I feel a cold chill when I think about opening my neglected Swapnote inbox again… I kind of want to make sure I have this pattern. I think I just like the idea that Swapnote is regarded highly enough to be used as a promotional tool.

“Swapnote Me Maybe” by Danielle Wolf. Yes, parodies of “Call Me Maybe” became passé months ago, and spoof videos for the pop hit already reached their height with this Arrested Development tribute, but let’s not hold that against Ms. Wolf for releasing this StreetPass ditty.
After all, the lyrics are amusing enough for 3DS fans, with shout-outs to Kid Icarus: Uprising and Puzzle Swap. And while yes, she doesn’t have a professional recording setup to autotune the hell out of this, and the topic at hand is hella nerdy — I cringed through the whole thing — props to her for not caring and putting this out there anyway.

Uggie’s special Swapnote message, snapped by NeoGAFFers blacknmild2k1 and zeer0id. Why, that’s not Uggie the dog at all! It’s Nintendo PR coordinator Krysta Yang!
Some neat things about this Swapnote, despite the absence of Uggie: first, there’s a new Nintendogs stationery! Second, the Swapnote actually links out to the eShop for the Nintendogs demo.

“Nintendo 3DS owners who have installed the free Swapnote application can receive a special Swapnote inspired by Uggie, the acclaimed canine actor who recently signed on to become Nintendo’s spokesdog.”
Nintendo’s treat for SwapNote users this week. It almost makes up for the lack of a Virtual Console release!
I had totally abandoned Swapnote in recent months, as I’ve been too busy with Tekken 3D, Sakura Samurai, and Kid Icarus: Uprising (plus my wife has been spending a lot of time with Metroid Fusion). Anyone else in a similar situation, where you just don’t have the heart to open Swapnote because you know you have a billion notes?

A Swapnote marriage proposal! Nobody wants to kick it Old Testament-style anymore. Dudes don’t want to get down on one knee, declare their intentions and the advantages of a twining, and slip a ring on that business.
I mean, it was the main deal for centuries with other guys. It worked for Cousin Matthew on Downton Abbey. It was good enough for Boyz II Men, damnit.
Anyway, I grew tired of seeing games hacked or manipulated into marriage proposals long ago, but something about this Swapnote exchange between Don Thacker and his now-fiancee Alexis Nordling seems novel and cute. Plus: A Triforce-powered ramen starship!

Swapnote from Game Center CX’s Shinya Arino, advertising GCCX videos of 3DS Virtual Console games. I need that Swapnote stationery. Look at his Mii!

Nintendo will stream a new round of pre-recorded presentations for fans tomorrow morning, likely talking more about its upcoming DS, 3DS, and eShop software — I expect the company will talk much about Kid Icarus: Uprising, Fire Emblem: Awakening, and Pokémon + Nobunaga’s Ambition. Hopefully we’ll hear about new third-party and downloadable titles too.
The Japanese version of the Nintendo Direct show, which I expect to have more info than the Western editions, will begin streaming here at 6AM ET (3AM PT). Nintendo of America will air its presentation at 9AM ET (6AM PT).
Interestingly, the company announced the presentations via Swapnote, sending messages from CEO Satoru Iwata in Japan and NOA president Reggie Fils-Aime in North America. You can see the latter’s memo here.

Bowser Jr. composing a sweet Swapnote for his pops, illustrated by Masa (click for a larger image).
When Bowser wakes up, he’ll not only have a StreetPass hit, he’ll receive a new message on his 3DS. According to Masa, the letter says, “Read this note when you get up. Be careful not to catch a cold. Take it easy!”
