Taiko: Drum Master toys included with McDonald’s “Happy Sets” in Japan. It’s bad enough that none of the three Taiko no Tatsujin DS games ever made it to the States, but now Japan gets these cute figures? Our Happy Meals almost never include anything half as cool as these.

[Update: Espiox adds in the comments below, “What’s even better is that when you play the sound [the toys] make into Taiko no Tatsujin DS 3’s “Sound Password” screen, they unlock extra content including a bonus (McD-related) song, some drum sounds, and costumes (yes, including that McD uniform seen above).”]

By the way, I’m not sure about Japan, but McDonald’s in Asia is typically much better than in the U.S., as you can sometimes get a fried chicken and steamed rice combo, which is deeeelicious. Of course, lots of other places have this (e.g. KFC), but the novelty of ordering such a meal at McDonald’s hasn’t worn off for me yet.

Surely by now, you must have heard about South Koreans using tiny sausages to interact with their iPhones when it’s too cold to take their gloves off. But I’m betting that most have yet to see the video above! Forget the mini meat sticks as styluses, Taiko no Tatsujin is on the iPhone?!?! With the ability to utilize your own music collection, it would seem? Unless the theme to Evangelion has made its way to the game proper, which could also be the case. Unfortunately, the game’s not available on the App Store here in America, but should hopefully make its way here soon.

“Family Don-Don” by YMCK, from Taiko no Tatsujin: Do Don to 2 Daime on Wii. Not only is the song featured in the game, but it’s even got YMCK characters dancing with 8-bit versions of the anthropomorphized Taiko drums!

NES-style drum sounds would have been too much to ask for.

Taiko no Tatsujin bento. Namco Bandai has broken new ground with these official lunches in the image of Wadadon, available from restaurants in Haneda Airport starting October 10. People who pay the 900 yen for this adorable meal will be entered in a drawing for a copy of Taiko Wii and other prizes.

Another super cute lunch creation: bento artist Anna the Red has posted her latest creation, a bento based on Gardening Mama. Despite Mama’s apparent rage, this meal looks perfectly executed to me.

Taiko no Tatsujin cake by Christine

Though we might not be able to play their DS games in North America (without importing them), we can certainly eat their cakes.

I will try not to make cake posts a regular habit here.
