Surprise Nintendo Direct gives us new Chibi Robo and Denpa Men games for eShop

Out of nowhere, Nintendo dropped another one of its Chotto/Mini Direct videos in Japan, this time focused on the 3DS and Wii U eShop. The big item is Chibi-Robo Photography, an AR game that has players taking pictures of real-world objects that match certain outlines. Skip to 08:30 in the video to see it, as it’s a lot more interesting than that simple description. It comes out in Japan… today!

Other notable Chotto Nintendo Direct bits include the Denpa Ningen RPG 3 announcement (with houses for your Denpa Men!), a limited edition Chibi-Robo Wii U for some reason, and new video-streaming and food delivery services in Japan for the Wii U eShop.

One of many odd characters you can collect in The Denpa Men — which you really should download from the 3DS eShop if you’re looking for a lighthearted RPG.
Someone even picked it as their 3DS game of the year!

There’s “Puff Puff” in The Denpa Men! Yes, this eShop game doesn’t just crib most of its design from Dragon Quest, it also throws in a running joke from the series.
This conversation happens when you talk to one of the miners in the Ocean Cave, who offers to heal you. If you accept, the screen goes black, and this text appears:

"Puff puff" “Oh my! This is amazing!!!” “Puff puff puff” “I could get used to this!!”

Don’t forget there’s a free Denpa Men demo on eShop!

The Denpa Men as a top-down 2D RPG — a Mystery Dungeon-style game specifically. Who wouldn’t want to play a roguelike starring these guys?

Oh my god, this Denpa Men video… I hope these guys end up having super successful acting careers, making up for having to wear these outfits in a commercial.

The Denpa Men: They Came By Wave's demo is out on eShop today — judging by its official site, Genius Sonority has spent a considerable amount of money to promote this game, but I worry that the amount of people who’ve heard about the quirky title is still small.

Nigoro’s La-Mulana is also finally out on WiiWare in North America, too, so don’t forget to grab that either!

The “Denpa” Men: They Came by Wave is the new mostly English title of Genius Sonority’s eShop RPG Denpa Ningen no RPG. It’ll be released on eShop in North America on September 27, for $7.99.

The premise:

Radio waves are all around you.

However, what you might not know is that, at any and all times, mysterious little creatures float around near these waves.

They’re called “Denpa” Men. You can’t see them normally, but you can find them and catch them with your Nintendo 3DS.
