Where we’re going, we don’t need official boxart
Because something like this works just fine. Don’t forget that preorders are now open at Amazon for the 3DS sequel to The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past!
And don’t forget about these still active deals either:
Fire Emblem: Awakening - $29.99 (backordered, sidebar link)
Super Mario 3D Land - $29.99
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D - $29.99 (backordered, sidebar link)
Mario Kart 7 - $29.99
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate - $24.99 (backordered, sidebar link)
Kid Icarus: Uprising is also $31.99, which is a decent deal for a great game. Don’t forget that it comes with a banana stand.

Nintendo Direct’s 3DS highlights
There was a minimal amount of 3DS news in this morning’s Nintendo Direct (you could say the same about interesting Wii U announcements), but I was happy to hear a couple minor but nice items about the eShop.
First, The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons will sell for only $4.99 each during its first three weeks on the storefront (starting May 30). After that, the Game Boy Color releases will go for $5.99 each.
And there’s over a dozen more Game Gear titles coming to 3DS Virtual Console:
Columns
Crystal Warriors
Defenders of Oasis
Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine
G-LOC: Air Battles
Shining Force II: The Sword of Hajya
Sonic Blast
Sonic Drift 2
Sonic Labyrinth
Sonic the Hedgehog
Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Tails Adventure

The Legend of Zelda, starring Princess Zelda

Shin Zelda Densetsu is an old homebrew project, released back in 2004 by Aesirraven and Lord Steak, but the ROM hack suffered a game-breaking bug in one of its dungeons. Chris Miller has just released a patch that should finally fix the issue and allow people to complete the game now!

It’s a complete overhaul of the original Zelda game, and from what I hear it’s quite good. Miller summarizes the changes:

“In a novel twist, the player must guide Princess Zelda on a quest to rescue Link from the forces of evil. The overworld is completely revamped, with few if any recognizable landmarks or routes from the original game. It is superbly designed, and won’t bore the player. The same goes for the dungeons. Instead of numbered levels, the dungeons are identified by symbols of the zodiac.”

I love that the list of classic games hacked to offer playable female protagonists is growing.

Army of Ganondorfs

These production shots come from First 4 Figures, which is selling these bad boys for a crazy $450 each. Seeing them all lined up like Terracotta Warriors is pretty awesome, maybe a little scary — ghostbusters even?

A Link to the Past and its 3DS sequel compared
I’m a bit LTTP on this since the image made the rounds yesterday, but Zelda Informer put together this direct overworld comparison using screengrabs from the new Legend of Zelda 3DS trailer yesterday. Not everyone’s in love with the 3D aesthetic, but I ain’t even that worried about it.
Meanwhile, Nintendo of America’s product marketing director Bill Trinen tells Joystiq that “from a story perspective there are connections [between the 3DS game and the original SNES title], so it does fall after A Link to the Past.”

Holy butts! The Legend of Zelda 3DS

It’s not a remake for a Link to the Past — it’s a new game set in the SNES classic’s world, releasing this holiday season! It will feature new dungeons and an original storyline.

The new title looks to “”reinvigorate the flat 2D world of A Link to the Past with a sense of height and volume,” making it easier to differentiate levels and adding a new puzzle-solving mechanic. Link can also now become a drawing and move within walls, changing the game’s perspective and allowing you to see previously hidden connections to solve puzzles.

Watch the reveal and trailer past the break:

Matching limited edition Zelda 3DS and N64
I don’t know who made this, but much props to them for replicating the Ocarina of Time 3DS design with a custom N64 paintjob. I love the idea of making skins based on one console’s limited edition release, and applying them on other systems.

Real Action Heroes Link

Did you get priced out of the Figma Link when US distribution was canceled? Well, now you have another chance to pay way too much for a Skyward Sword Link action figure, one that is even cooler IMO. Because of cloth.

This one comes with a sword, shield, bow, the MotionPlus scarab thing whose name I can’t remember, and other accessories like a -_- face and a SHAAAHHH face.

It’ll be released in Japan in November.

The Legend of Voxel Zelda by Timo Vihola

I’d be alright if Nintendo and Arika put out a couple of 3D Classics releases (or complete remakes, which graphical overhauls like this would require) for The Legend of Zelda that looked like this.
