“In The Memory” by The Shortsleeves, one of my favorite chiptune groups. The duo put out a new single for the track, which you can stream above. If you purchase the single, though, you can help fund the band’s first cassette.
The release includes studio versions for two tracks that were featured in The Shortsleeves’ live album last year — Jenn de la Vega, who makes up half of the group, has also posted a wicked “Street Perfect Piano version” that’s worth listening to if you’re into this lovely song.
And before I forget, tickets are now on sale for Blip Festival NYC — which Jenn helps organize — so jump on that. The partial lineup revealed so far includes Omodaka, Nullsleep, and George & Jonathan, and I’m sure the rest of the list is going to be killer, too. I wanna go sooooo bad.

“Oceanside Arcade” by Go Motion — this is the original, more upbeat version Paul Owens recorded for his solo chiptune project before remixing the song with The Shortsleeves.
Congratulations, by the way, are due to Ioncat and DavidRY, who won copies of The Shortsleeves’ sterling Black White Tour (Live from The Bug Jar) release from our recent contest after telling us about their favorite kind of chiptunes. Oh, and we announced the winners of our recent Protect Ya Screen giveaway yesterday, too.

“Oceanside Arcade” by The Shortsleeves, one of seven tracks included in the chiptune duo’s new album Black White Tour (Live from The Bug Jar).
This is the same song that played so many years ago when you were at the beach with your girlfriend, and she broke up with you because you wasted too much of the summer playing Street Fighter II: Champion Edition while training for an upcoming tournament.
As she walked away, you watched the sun set and let a single tear roll down your cheek because you knew it was true — your love wasn’t meant to be, at least not while you still had trouble pulling off Zangief’s spinning piledriver consistently. Once that tear dried and the sun faded from view, you called your mom to pick you up.
It would have been the worst summer ever, but when you won first place in that tournament and held that trophy up, she came up to hug you and tell you she believed in you the entire time but didn’t want to distract you from winning.
You can stream this song from your past and the rest of the new Shortsleeves album here. If you like it enough to want to buy it — which you will — the whole thing is just $5 to download. And if you want it for free, we’re giving away two copies! Just let us know in the comments what your favorite kinds of chiptunes are, and we’ll pick a couple random winners this weekend!
Preorder: Super Street Fighter IV 3D ($10 credit)

“Rabbit Feet” by The Shortsleeves. If you’re fond of Balun or any other ambient-type chiptune groups I often feature here, this is a song your discerning ears will appreciate.
And if you’re not familiar with Balun or even chip music, do me a favor and listen to at least the first minute of this track to see if it catches your fancy. It’s not like you have anything better to do; you wouldn’t be at this site otherwise!
The Shortsleeves is comprised of Paul Owens (director at 2 Player Productions, armed with a Game Boy/LSDJ) and Jenn de la Vega (publicist at The Tank NYC, playing a Casio CT-460). Jenn also has some great songs from her solo act Drum Machine Dating Service.
You can download “Rabbit Feet” and another Shortsleeves track at the group’s Tumblr.
