Time Travelers is going to make you cry, according to this commercial Level-5 put out for the 3DS/PS Vita visual novel hitting Japan this week (no U.S. announcement yet).

This spot is reminiscent of Nintendo’s own ads for Super Mario Land 3D earlier this year — and even the old Mother 3 commercials — which is an approach I wouldn’t mind seeing more for promotional stuff, so long as there are actual gameplay clips shoved in somewhere.

The actress in this spot, by the way, is Kasumi Arimura (Gal Basara, SPEC). And here’s a second gameplay-focused commercial for Time Travelers, which again highlights the 3DS release over the PS Vita edition.

Time Travelers is looking pretty dope in this latest trailer, even if the only gameplay shown here are quick-time events. I’m willing to put up with it, provided that director Jiro Ishii (428) delivers on the 3DS/PS Vita game’s story — and provided someone publishes it in English.

I hope this goes over better than Level-5’s last new release — Guild01 sold only 15,000 copies during its first week on sale in Japan, which doesn’t sound encouraging for a Western release or for Guild02’s future.

The Japanese cover for Time Travelers box isn’t too exciting, unless you’re a nut for gears and other mechanical parts, but I forgot that games get black boxes in Japan when CERO is C (rated 15 and up). I guess Level-5 cooked up a mature script for this 3DS/PS Vita title.
Really hoping Guild01 makes its way here, so we can at least maybe get a Time Travelers demo. I wonder if Guild02 will offer a demo for another Level-5 title? (possibly Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney!)

Guild01 owners will have just about a month and a half to evaluate the Time Travelers demo before deciding whether they want the Level-5/Jiro Ishii future adventure game.

Level-5 announced today that Time Travelers will be released on PSP, Vita, and 3DS on July 12. No international release has been announced yet, but of course E3 is coming up, when some potential publisher (Ni no Kuni partner Namco Bandai?) could announce a localization.

There’s some Time Travelers footage at the end of this Guild01 trailer released today, which is fitting considering Guild01 includes a demo for the new adventure game from 428 director Jiro Ishii. Also, the video is an excuse to admire Yasumi Matsuno’s Crimson Shroud.

Guild01, which is already composed of four different games, somehow has room for part of a fifth. Level-5 announced today that it’ll bundle a demo of cinematic adventure game Time Travelers with the compilation.

Guild01 is due in Japan May 31; Time Travelers is so far just set for “2012.” Maybe Level-5 will have a giant TGS-style booth at E3 to announce large-scale North American publishing operations? That is a complete fantasy we can enjoy together for a moment.

New trailer for Time Travelers, the 3DS/PSP/Vita game coming out next year from Level-5 and 428 director Jiro Ishii. The game is said to “play out like a movie”, though it’s unclear what that means. I really like the somber tone of what I’ve seen so far here.

According to 1UP, you can hear the characters and narrator saying, “If I had kissed him”, “If that trigger hadn’t been pulled”, and “Do you think you can change fate? Would you if you could?” in the trailer. How would the future change if these events had turned out differently?

The game has five playable characters — maybe Time Travelers is Level-5’s Heavy Rain?

Famitsu scans for Time Travelers, that mystery Level-5 game coming to 3DS… and now PSP and PS Vita! Those of you who planned to pick this up, are you considering getting this for the Vita instead of the 3DS?

Andriasang has details on all the characters shown here (Ressentiment seems like a particularly fun/interesting guy), as well as more on the game’s story:

Time Travelers kicks off a few years in the future as a mysterious hole called the “Lost Hole” appears in the skies above Tokyo accompanied by an explosion. Central Tokyo is destroyed, and many lives are lost.

Things jump 18 years, to 4/28/2031. Tokyo is a futuristic city, with holographic signs filling the streets, and a building called the ‘Space Elevator’ rising from Tokyo Bay. While there’s a “space” in the name, the building is only 2,000 meters high. It serves as a power source for the city.”

4/28, eh? That’s a cute nod from the game’s writer Jiro Ishii to another title he worked on called 428, which you might remember as that Wii visual novel that got a perfect 40/40 Famitsu review score but never released here.

Five Level-5 3DS Trailers: Subbed Layton Vs. Phoenix Wright, Fantasy Life, & More

Much like Puff Daddy, we can’t stop, won’t stop, and possibly don’t even know how to stop posting Level-5 junk. It’s a sickness for which there is no cure.

After the break, you’ll find new trailers for Fantasy Life, Time Travelers, Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracle, and Cabaret Girls. We’ve also posted the Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright video for the third time, but this one has subtitles!
