Tiny Labyrinth: Fake Chinese 3DS game

I’m unsure where he found it, but reader Offal stumbled upon what appears to be a Chinese bootleg of a Nintendo 3DS emulator. Either that, or it’s a virtual 3DS sent back in time by SkyNet Nintendo to assassinate the PSP2.

Offal points out it’s a poor facsimile of the advanced device: the top screen displays only six colors in 2D (the bottom shows four shades of gray), and the analog pad, touch screen, cameras, and microphone are inoperable.

It does play a single game, but it’s nothing we’ve heard announced from either Japanese or Western developers. The emulator’s existence was strange enough, but what we found really unsettling is that the (possibly haunted) game features our own Tiny! More info/download link below!:

“They Came… For Our Backlights!” by Michael Stearns (click for a larger image). If you’d like to see more of Michael’s art, check out his webcomic, Dawn Of Time. He’s also available for commissions — he can produce something like this wonderful piece for you at a reasonable price!

Space Ranger Tiny versus the Evil Game Boys! How amazing is that? We thought it was amazing enough to warrant sending Michael a Reformat the Planet DVD set, a Dragon Quest IX sticker sheet, a collectible Dragon Quest figure, and a Tiny Cartridge pin.

Also, slight correction for one of our other Birthday Contest Of The Forever winners: Ant Cooke’s fabulous Tiny Text Adventure, which you should play if you’re a fan of the site, was a third prize winner, so he also takes home a Dragon Quest IX sticker sheet and a Reformat the Planet DVD set.

Tiny Cartridge case by Elena You. As Elena noted in her contest entry email, this Tiny Cartridge case is also a tiny cartridge case. It is Tiny Cartridge, it is a tiny case for cartridges, and it is a case for tiny cartridges. This is like the ultimate expression of the phrase “tiny cartridge case.” Please pay close attention to the metallic embroidery on the back.

She initially designed this as a strap/charm — which, she told us, it still could be if it were filled with stuffing instead of games. “Keychains (or phone straps) have got to be the most typical mascot merchandise you can find,” she said, “so I thought it was about time that Tiny was made into one too. He’s quite adorable.”

We’re honored (and we know Tiny would be as well) to have our mascot spoken of so highly, and trusted with such an important task as holding a couple of DS games. We hope we can trust Elena with the task of holding this Reformat the Planet DVD set, a Dragon Quest IX sticker sheet, a Dragon Quest trading figure, and a Tiny Cartridge pin, because she won the hell out of our third prize.

Tiny Cartridge, the cake! Sensing our disappointment that no one threw us a birthday party — not that we made a big deal about it, not that we cried into a pillow while playing Celine Dion’s “All By Myself” on repeat every night for weeks — reader Jason W. baked us a cake from scratch!

Unfortunately, we didn’t get to eat it due to the challenges with shipping a cake (also, not sure my import DSi would be able to play it anyway), but we’re sending him a collectible Dragon Quest figure, a Tiny Cartridge pin (from our friends at Fangamer), and our appreciation!

That’s one winner down! We have a lot more fantastic contest winners and tributes to Tiny coming up.

Tiny Contest: Blip Festival 2008 CDs

Courtesy of 2 Player Productions, we will give away three copies of 8bitpeoples’ landmark release Blip Festival 2008, a two-disc collection of live songs from all 32 artists/groups that performed at last year’s premiere chiptune show.

The four-day concert’s lineup was nuts — Bit Shifter, Minusbaby, Anamanaguchi, Nullsleep, USK, etc. — so if you follow the micromusic scene, you already know it’s off the chain, off the hook, and off the wickkity doo-dah yezzelbar. Plus, we will also throw in 2PP’s Blip Festival 2006 and 2007 DVDs to sweeten the pot.

To enter, leave a comment in any of our chiptune and music posts over the next two weeks (this includes audio posts and any other music-focused media/links we put up) before October 6th, 11:59 EST. Running our giveaway like this has three advantages:

  1. We ensure that the people who actually follow this niche interest will win the prizes
  2. It motivates us to post more chiptune songs
  3. I have an excuse to listen to something other than Raekwon’s Only Built 4 Cuban Linx… Pt. II for the first time in two weeks

As usual, please refrain from leaving us crap comments to sift through — we prefer messages that have substance to them and will ignore any frivolous junk.

Look out for more music posts in the future so you can win a copy of the two-disc set. You can listen to my favorite song from the album here, as well as stream the entire deal through the Blip Festival 2008 Bandcamp page.

Before you ask, yes, commenting in this post counts as a giveaway entry. Yezzelbarr!

103 Atlus games still up for grabs

Just a reminder for those of you with terrible memories (in the sense that you have a hard time remembering anything, not that you have awful recollections of your inebriated father never being around when you needed him or anything like that), we’re giving away 103 Atlus games!

Here’s our tally of those titles, with links to their respective reviews, for those of you curious about what you can win. I apologize for the length!

For a chance to win, just leave quality comments in our posts before this Friday, 11:59PM CST. You can see full details for the giveaway in our contest announcement. Even if you’re not interested in the games, you should comment anyway! We like knowing people read this junk we put up every day, and it might distract you from those crippling flashbacks of your negligent father.

Tiny Contest: 103 Atlus games

This week, we’re giving you a chance to win an unprecedented 103 games. 101 of them happen to be on one cartridge, and the other cartridges are limited to one game each, so it might be a little bit unbalanced… sorry, I just don’t know how to divide them up any further! One person is just going to have to win 100 more games than the two other winners.

We’ve got one copy of 101-in-1 Explosive Megamix, one copy of Trackmania DS, and one Tokyo Beat Down to give away, and all you have to do is leave comments!

You know how we do: from today through Friday, May 8th, at 11:59PM CST, each comment on this post or the ones that follow will count as an entry in our contest. Comment on this post and you’re entered once, or comment on a post after this one for two entries. Junk comments that are obviously just contest entries won’t count — use your damn noodle.
