Mercenary Kings out March 25 on PC, Mac, April 1 on PS4 ⊟
Mercenary Kings, Tribute Games’ awesome run-and-gun-and-craft will bring the Tiny Computer to life starting March 25 on PC and Mac (where it’s been available in Early Access for a bit) and April 1 on PS4.
If you’ve got one of those things, you should probably look into this game, as it looks bonkers. And the team at Tribute has a hell of a track record (Scott Pilgrim, Wizorb)!
Holy moly, Tiny is a boss in Mercenary Kings! ⊟
Whatttt? This is amazing! Tiny Cartridge is a boss in this PlayStation 4/PC game (though he’s more of a Tiny Computer here), and he has his own theme song, and you can shoot him with a cat-gun that meows.
This is becoming a tradition with releases from Tribute Games and its members, seeing as Tiny also appeared in Wizorb, Ninja Senki, and secretly — but not really because it’s just a coincidence — Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.
New Mercenary Kings trailer ⊟
If I end up buying a PlayStation 4 this winter, it will be because of Tribute Games’ run’n gun here. It’s more likely, though, that I’ll grab the final version (there’s an Early Access build you can buy/try now) that releases for Steam/PC. Whatever, the point is that Mercenary Kings will be mine.
Mercenary Kings: Master Codex
Rad, someone’s making a Nintendo Player’s Choice-style strategy guide/art book for Mercenary Kings — rather, Off Base Productions will make the guide if it can raise $65,000 on Kickstarter. That’s a lofty goal, but the rewards are nice: digital and print copies, art prints, miniature Mercenary Kings arcade machine replicas, and more.
Tribute won’t release Mercenary Kings to PlayStation 4 and Windows until later this year, but you can still buy/play an Early Access build of the game on Steam. And, hey, we actually have a code to give away! Leave a comment, reblog this, or send a tweet to let us know why you’re excited about Mercenary Kings, and we’ll announce a winner tomorrow on our Twitter.
Mercenary Kings early access coming soon
Tribute Games put out this new trailer ahead of Mercenary Kings' PC/Steam early access release on July 22 — it's looking dope as hell, right?
I had a chance to try out the PlayStation 4 version at E3, and the shooter delivered on all its promises: fun run’n gun action, amazing 2D sprites and backgrounds, great four-player co-op play, interesting non-linear stages, and a complex crafting system in between stages for weapon/player customization. This is going to be fun times, people.
Mercenary Kings still ballin’
Still coming out sometime this year. Still has awesome sprites from Paul Robertson. Still much anticipated.
If you’re in Montreal, by the way, you can get a peek of the Metal Slug-esque PC shooter — and even play it — at IGDA’s DemoNight next Tuesday.
Mercenary Kings split-screen multiplayer footage. Go ahead and open the video up full-screen, because you’re not going to be able to see what’s going on at all otherwise!
With 13 days to go, Tribute Games is still about $4,000 away from its $75,000 goal. That’s so far away from the console version goal, you guys. A game with a name like Mercenary Kings should be loaded with money!

Wow, PS Vita had a pretty great week — first with Sega’s announcement of an HD Jet Set Radio coming to the handheld this summer, and now Tribute’s XBLIG/PC title releasing for PS Vita, PSP, and PS3 via PS Minis in June.
The RPG/Breakout hybrid, which happens to feature a Tiny cameo that does not at all affect our opinion of this first-class game, will be priced at $3.99. Ukranian developer Beatshapers, which also handled Canabalt's PS Minis conversion, helped with the port.
