Here’s the nice thing about the Bayonetta anime ⊟
I can’t get past like level 3 of the game, but it doesn’t take reflexes, pattern recognition, memorization or really any skills at all to watch all the way through Bayonetta: Bloody Fate.
Here’s the other nice thing: it’ll be out October 21 on Blu-Ray/DVD.

Nazo no Murasame-jou on US 3DS August 7 ⊟
Nintendo announced on its SDCC stream (via Wario64) that this Famicom Disk System game, never before released in North America, will be on 3DS Virtual Console August 7. It came out in Europe back in May.
Here’s a cool thing: this game was one of the demos shown off back at E3 2010, along with Mega Man 2, Super Mario Bros. and some other stuff. Back then, Nintendo was showing them off as 3D updates like the 3D Classics series, but yeah.
So pumped about finally being able to buy and play this game! I have a Disk System, but didn’t pick the game up with it for whatever reason; also my Disk System doesn’t work.

NES Remix Pack coming to U.S. stores ⊟
NES Remix 1 and 2, Nintendo’s fun collections of remixed NES games previously released on the Wii U eShop, will have a physical disc release in North American stores this holiday season. Yay, Super Luigi Bros. and Nintendo World Championships mode.
Captain Falcon and Kirby acting the fool ⊟
Captain Falcon’s booty game is out of control. Nintendo put out 100+ screenshots of the new Smash Bros. this morning, focusing on recently announced fighters Robin, Captain Falcon, and Lucina. You can check them out all here, but I don’t understand why you need to see anything else after that Captain Falcon booty pic. Real talk, looks like he stuffed two basketballs in his pants. Not sure how anyone is going to be able to pay attention to their battle when he starts bouncing around.
Subtitled trailer for the new Fatal Frame ⊟
Cheers to PepsimanGB for subtitling the trailer Tecmo Koei put out last week for Fatal Frame: The Raven-Haired Shrine Maiden. I was one of the people who asked for subtitles when he offered to put this video together, so it would’ve been a jerk move if I didn’t share this after he went through all that trouble.
Again, this releases for the Wii U in Japan on September 27.
New Mighty No. 9 footage ⊟
There’s a bit of old clips in here, but you’ll see a lot of new video in here too, showing off Call and the game’s bosses. While it still looks really unfinished and without the polish (the stage shown with Call looks super basic with only placeholder art), Comcept and Inti Creates still have a long way to go — around 9 months — before this releases.

Cute Mario Kart racer GIFs ⊟
If you open up a bunch of browser windows and load one of these GIFs in each, you can line them up and move them around, pretending their racing and passing each other while making your own sound effects. Great way to spend your afternoon, or get fired after you’re caught goofing off at work.

Marth looks different… ⊟
This mysterious pink puffball in the mask… could it really be the legendary hero Marth? But… isn’t that also Marth standing next to him? Gods, I’m so confused! The image are via these Famitsu scans. Note the lack of visible feet!
Okay, that’s a lot of Marth. I can’t account for the mystery pink Marth, but Lucina seems to be somewhat clone-like in play compared to OG Marth, which Masahiro Sakurai explains in this translated column:
"Lucina uses the same techniques as Marth, a fighter with whom I’m sure most of you are already familiar. I even went so far as to make their strength, speed, and special attacks almost identical.
However, what sets Lucina apart is the fact that the strength of her attacks is uniform along the blade. Marth’s playstyle emulates the elegant swordplay of a fencer by dealing more damage when he strikes with the tip of his blade, but the damage Lucina deals is evened out. Thus, I think Lucina will be much easier than Marth for novice players to play with.”
He says tweaked characters like that play differently enough to earn their own slot, unlike simple alternate costumes like Wii Fit trainer. “When two such similar characters function in an even slightly different manner, I give them a separate spot on the roster since that will affect battle records and whatnot.”
Fatal Frame: The Raven-Haired Shrine Maiden ⊟
Even though it’s not a handheld game and the horror series hasn’t made it to the West in some time (not counting the Spirit Camera spin-off), I love Fatal Frame so I had to share this new trailer from the Wii game. This time around, players will use the Wii U GamePad like a camera, moving it around to follow ghosts in order to stun and capture them.
Gematsu offered these details:
"It is set in Hikamiyama, a sacred mountain with a huge lake at its summit from which water gushes abundantly throughout the mountain. It’s a mountain of death, and only those who choose on their own to die go there. They enter the mountain at oumagatoki (the witching hour), when the boundary between the world of the living and the world of the dead is blurred. The game’s story revolves around the concept of water.
The protagonist is named Kozukata Yuuri. She can see those who have been spirited away and captured in the world of the dead and return them to this world. Responding to the requests of those who have been taken, Yuuri visits Mt. Hikamiyama.”
Nintendo will release the Tecmo Koei-developed title in Japan on September 27, a day after the debut of Fatal Frame's live-action film.
Club Nintendo’s platinum/gold prizes are game downloads ⊟
Yeah, this year’s Elite gifts from North American Club Nintendo are not exclusive physical goods like they were in previous years – Mario hats, figurines, etc. They’re not even the old standby calendar.
Instead, this year you can select one of 16 Wii U or 3DS games as a free download, ranging from full retail games (like Game & Wario) to fucking Ice Climber.
Club Nintendo has gone down while I was writing this post, but you can get the reward here when it comes back up. Though I like my Club Nintendo Mario hat and all, I’m not hating on a free copy of Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D.

The women of Smash ⊟
The original Smash Bros. had a single playable female character with Samus, while Melee and Brawl had three to six, depending on how you look at them (Samus/Zero Suit Samus, Peach, Nana, and Zelda/Sheik). Meanwhile, the new Smash Bros. has 12 (out of 40 characters, including those with female/male options)!
Sure, a few are based on the same character now split into two separate fighters (Zelda/Sheik and Samus/Zero Suit Samus), and four have male counterparts (Villager, Wii Fit Trainer, Robin, and Mii), but that’s still a lot more options for people who prefer to play as female characters!
And there might be even more female fighters revealed soon, as we don’t have the full roster. Japanese magazine CoroCoro will reportedly show all of the characters and stages planned for the 3DS version in its August 12 issue. Thanks to Regina for the pic, and Stef for pointing out the new Smash Bros.'s dramatic increase in women.
The biggest reveal from yesterday’s Smash Bros. news ⊟
Lucina’s boot game is too strong, OP even — Sakurai might need to put out a post-release patch and nerf her footwear back into those nubs everyone has in Fire Emblem Awakening. Credit to @Pikminister for noticing this!
