I’m angry about how cool this Princess Peach Wiimote Plus is ⊟
I definitely don’t need any more Wii Remotes, but the new Princess Peach Wii Remote Plus is too, too good. Like when the Mario and Luigi versions came out, I’m upset by how tempted I am to drop $40 on one of these when they hit stores later this month.
I love how the blue buttons suggest her earrings and brooch! And the d-pad is her crown.
Now I wait as people clamor for a Toad Wiimote they don’t actually want, just out of some semi-OCD need to complete the Super Mario Bros. 2 cast.

Namco items in Super Smash Bros. ⊟

It makes sense that some Namco representation would show up in the new Smash Bros. game, which Bandai Namco is co-developing (even though Game Arts didn’t get any nods in Brawl…)

Some previously unseen items have shown up in a giant set of screenshots Nintendo quietly released yesterday, including Galaga enemies that capture fighters, and… the “Special” flag from Rally-X?

Wait, does somebody like Rally-X? That much?

I’ve also included a couple screens of the Animal Crossing-based beehive item, because hahahahaha that’s awesome.

In case you forgot this happened last night ⊟

It happened. It wasn’t a dream. Mega Man’s “Final Smash” move in the new Smash Bros. has the hero lined up with Volnutt, X, and other variations to deliver a light show.

And here are Mega Man’s moves that were shown off during yesterday’s Smash Direct. GIFs via Revengeance!

Greninja’s big splash ⊟

B-because it’s like a big splash page and Greninja is a water type and I’m sorry.

Anyway, this new art by Pokemon artist Ken Sugimori was added to the official Smash Bros. site after the character’s announcement (answering Eric’s heart’s wish). It looks pretty great, except Peach just looks kind of irritated.

New Smash Bros. coming to 3DS this summer ⊟

… and this Winter for Wii U. Not great news for those hoping to play this on a big screen TV, but it’s awesome for people who are fans of tiny cartridges, which I believe we have a few of.

Along with offering 60 FPS gameplay even while in stereoscopic 3D mode, the 3DS version will have an exclusive Smash Run mode. The mode has you and up to three other players fighting a mix of enemies from Nintendo games in a huge dungeon, gathering power-ups and eventually battling each other.

Both the Wii U and 3DS versions will feature online multiplayer, allowing you to play For Fun or For Glory (detailed in shots above!). They’ll also offer Charizard and Greninja as playable fighters!

Here are the folks announced for the new Smash Bros. so far ⊟

The top image contains the new Smash Bros. game’s Assist Trophies (here’s a version with the Metroid shown this morning), while the other pic shows the playable characters with their ancillary buddies, like Olimar with his Pikmin. Both are from Neorice, who is on Tumblr so you should follow him.

Don’t forget that there will be a Nintendo Direct dedicated to the 3DS/Wii U game tomorrow, streaming at 6PM ET (12AM EU time) — we’ll probably see one or two new faces to add to the roster!

Flying Hamster 2 takes inspiration from Wonder Boy ⊟

Looking for all intents and purposes like a modern sequel to Wonder Boy 3, Flying Hamster 2 is up on Kickstarter. And it looks beautiful.

The original game was a side-scrolling shooter, but for this one, developer Game Atelier says, “Our main inspirations are the Wonder Boy / Monster WorldZelda series and Secret Of Mana.”

The main Kickstarter goal is a Windows version, but stretch goals could bring it to PS4, Xbox One, Vita, 3DS, and Wii U. I believe that, too, as Flying Hamster was ported all over the place!

M2 behind the Wii U’s GBA Virtual Console ⊟

Well, this can only be good news. While Sega’s 3DS Virtual Console stuff has been the work of emulation masters M2, Nintendo has always done its own development for its own systems.

However, the GBA emulation on the Wii U is the work of M2 (who also made the recent Sega 3D Classics, as well as the Sega Vintage Collection on XBLA/PSN), which can only be good news!

And in true M2 tradition, the emulation sounds pretty excellent, with optional smoothing, multiple resolutions, and full scans of the original manuals.

Do this for 3DS next, M2! If anyone can, it’s you.

I dig these Shovel Knight shirts ⊟

Definitely a couple of gems among these Shovel Knight t-shirts by We Love Fine. The simple shiny-logo shirt is a winner, as is the chibi knight. They’re all available in multiple colors, as well!

You have a bit more time to wear these and be a super cool guy before the game comes out, at which point you’ll just be a regular cool guy.

Don’t forget that we’ll have Hyper Light Drifter to look forward to ⊟

God I can’t wait for this to come out. It’s not releasing for PS Vita and PlayStation 4 until early 2015, but the PC version is expected to hit later this year. And some time around or after then, there will also be a version for Wii U. Whichever platform you end up playing this on (handheld for me), Heart Machine will make sure it looks beautiful while Rich Vreeland a.k.a. “Disasterpeace” will guarantee it sounds great. It would be difficult to watch this trailer and argue otherwise.

One Piece: Unlimited World Red hitting the West ⊟
Not long after putting out its RPG One Piece: Romance Dawn in the West, Namco Bandai has announced action-adventure game One Piece: Unlimited World Red for North America, Europe, and Australia, releasing this year.
Oddly, while Red was only a 3DS game when it hit Japan in November, it will release for 3DS, PlayStation 3, PS Vita, and Wii U in the West — the later two editions will be digital-only. Here’s a trailer after the break:

Shovel Knight delayed by a few weeks ⊟

Developer Yacht Club notified Kickstarter backers that Shovel Knight won’t make its scheduled March 31 release “by a few weeks”. The studio explained:

"This isn’t a major delay, or a long one; it’s simply a stretch of time to get everything polished and aligned. While major development is quickly drawing to a close, there are still some external factors, like submission preparation, which need a little bit more breathing room before the game goes live."

We also got these two new town screenshots for the 3DS/Wii U/PC game — looks very Zelda II-esque, which should be no surprised if you’ve spotted other elements inspired by the NES title or heard Yacht Club’s Sean Velasco mention it as his favorite game.

I’m not sure what inspired the dress-wearing horse, though.
