Tiny Cartridge 3DS

Castaway Boy Keith, a Zelda clone for the Game Boy from Epic/Sony. Originally shown in an issue of Famitsu but never released, this action RPG starred a young adventurer marooned on a small island, where he has to collect music notes in order to defeat a devil king.

The plot sounds an awful lot like Link’s Awakening, right? Well, this preview was published almost three years before Nintendo released its seminal game. Disgruntled Designer has more screenshots for Castaway Boy Keith (Hyouryuu Shounen Keith), as well as this description:

“Keith gets advice and purchases items from what looks like Doraemon but is actually a tanuki (Japanese raccoon dog in folklore, folks), and meets old wise men, as per the usual RPG quest. The graphics look quite blocky and tiled compared to more modern ARPGs like Neutopia and Link’s Awakening, but they’re passable for a 1990 GB title. All the usual things are here as well: heart meters, sub-screens, dungeons, items to collect, and a map to explore.”
